A mysterious artifact comes to light after 2,000 years ...

A fiery archaeologist, a Vatican agent, a razor sharp antiquities dealer — all are drawn to the ruins of Delphi and the secret hidden in its subterranean chambers. International dealer Moses Frank is astounded when he sees the artifact for the first time and vows to have it excavated.

But after lying buried for two millennia it has become a potent symbol for fanatics. Moses is warned it could destroy the Church. Or trigger a war in the Middle East. With his ambitious plans on a knife-edge, Moses meets archaeologist, Helena Delacroix, a passionate young researcher, determined to re-enact a shocking, 3000-year old ritual, amongst the ruins of Delphi. Will Helena’s provocative ritual change everything for Moses?

Spanning generations and an entire continent — money, sex and manipulation rule — in a thrilling story of ambition, desire and betrayal.

Martin Weitz is an award-winning film-maker turned thriller writer. His TV films on human mysteries, like the extraordinary "Brainman" and “ The Real Rainman” documentaries have been top-rating TV shows in over 200 countries and won many prizes, including a BAFTA nomination.

In his new novel, THE ELENA TEXT, the first volume in the Moses Frank Trilogy, he unravels some of the strange and unforgettable secrets he's felt unable to reveal in his films - weaving a heady mix of fact and fiction into a sensational new thriller based in Paris, Vienna, Rome and Delphi.

He also introduces a new 21st century hero – the charismatic Moses Frank, a rags to riches international antiquities dealer who orchestrates the clandestine Jupiter group – an anonymous group of obsessive collectors, shadowy government officials and maverick Vatican agents.

Growing up on a diet of James Bond books, Martin Weitz went on to study psychology and philosophy at Oxford, which somehow made him qualified to work on Coronation Street, where he worked with all the stars of the British TV soap.

He later became an investigative journalist for the UK's World In Action, helping to uncover corporate corruption, national dangers and the abuse of power. Here he discovered that secrecy, subterfuge and sometimes even pure deception were amongst the daily tools of the investigative journalist’s trade.

“Getting the story, nailing the villain was everything”.
For Martin Weitz it has felt a natural progression to go from film-directing to writing fiction. “For me every chapter in my book is like a scene in a film. Moreover, many of the larger than life characters I have met both in front, and behind the camera, have provided me with wonderful material for the characters in my books. It’s an old cliché but “truth is stranger than fiction”.

This is the first Moses Frank book of a trilogy. I entered the giveaway for this book because of the comparison to Dan Brown's work. To me, the comparison is somewhat superficial. This book is less about the Elena Text and more about the Delphi anomaly. Moses Frank is a dealer in antiquities, not always legally obtained or sold. He is contacted by museum director and archaeologist, Dr Green who has rediscovered the Delphi anomaly (an extremely significant discovery to Israel, the Catholic Church, the family of the archaologist whose first discovered it and lost his reputation and most likely his life because of it),and wishes to have Moses sell it. But first it needs to be removed from the cave it is buried in. Many divergent parties have an interest in either obtaining or keeping the anomaly hidden. The book is divided into sections each representing a character in the book and their role in the story or connection to the artifact. Like Dan Brown's books the story revolves around each characters actions to have their particular interests satisfied. Unlike Dan Brown's books, the story covers more than 25 years and lots and lots of sex. Perhaps book two will concentrate more on the Elena text itself and connect the dots.

“The Elena Text” is an impressively intelligent and learned mystery/thriller about ancient manuscripts and a long-lost artifact that could fundamentally alter our understanding of religious events and principles. Events unfold over two periods separated by a quarter century, and half a dozen countries in Western Europe. The characters are vivid, three-dimensional and conflicted. The exotic settings are detailed and seem authentic. The motives and conflicts seem credible.

The novel will appeal to fans of Dan Brown and Umberto Ecco. The writing style is somewhat impressionistic. Rather than a linear narrative, the author provides vivid flashes of moments drawn from two time periods and the perspectives of several characters. It is the first book in a trilogy. However, the books are not three stories linked by an overarching plot, but three sections of a single story. It is an easy, engaging read. However, the reader should be prepared to read the full trilogy to understand all the events in the first book. Fortunately, the book introduces half a dozen mysteries that should create sufficient interest and curiosity to pique the reader’s curiosity and sustain interest through what promises to be three engaging books.

A gripping Dan Brown type of read plus lots of sex and an unexpected cliff hanger. Cover does not do the story justice. I received this book from eBook Discovery. This is my honest review, which I voluntarily post.
