Miss Chambers Takes Charge

Rate this book
Pretty of face but plain of lineage, Miss Claudia Chambers is compelled to take a position as companion to Lady Rexford, a widow who is trying to hold on to her dowager's inheritance against the wishes of her husband's relatives. When Claudia accompanies her to Yorkshire, she comes into contact with their most prodigious opponent: Lord Rexford, Lady Rexford's handsome nephew and heir to the estate -- and a man who sets her heart on fire.

I have been reading Regency romances since I was in my teens and actually wrote my first one--a truly dreadful effort--when I was about sixteen. But since I chose to pursue an education and career in a different field (automotive technology, with minors in French and business administration), that early effort gathered dust for many years. It wasn't until after the birth of my daughter that I had the time and inclination to take up writing again. I enjoy writing and enjoy even more hearing from readers of my books. I work hard to make my Regencies accurate in period detail as well as entertaining in content.

Amusing & irritating by turns. I usually enjoy a companion tale but Rexford & Claudia aren't terribly stimulating. I'm always reluctant to part with one of these Regencies as they've been superseded by bigger, raunchier pseudo-Regencies, & are impossible to find in my country, however, I think it's time to retire this one to a street library somewhere.

Bored to tears!! How awful is that! It had all the standard stuff...regency era, setting/details & hierarchy of the nobility versus the working class with the added very modest romance factor! Skimmed several pages at a time! No chemistry, no magic spark within the storylines! A very dull book! Glad I read because loved the authors previous work! Even happier I'm done & on to better books to chose & hope they provide the enjoyment this novel sadly lacked!!

it is starting out well, Miss Claudia Chambers is commencing on her employment as a companion to Lady Rexford, a housekeeper-to-lady of the house. There are some funny moments, Claudia’s sister-in-law is annoying but since they are moving to Yorkshire to face Lady Rexford’s proud nephew, I hope I won’t have to read much about her. The hero hasn’t appeared yet but ...I’ve decided to write reviews as progress notes, and will hopefully co ntinue. last 1/3 dragged a bit. I didn’t like the hero that much. Miss Claudia’s taking hand in the transformation of Lady Rexford from an mild and meek woman to a strident figure was fun.

Genteel poverty forces Claudia to look for a post. She successfully lands a post as companion to a generous and kind employer and manages to marry a viscount before the summer comes to a close. Oh, and she solves the mystery of the missing Rembrandt.
