The Loyalist Team: How Trust, Candor, and Authenticity Create Great Organizations

Rate this book
Great teams are built and maintained with great intention, though they can make it look deceptively easy. Too many teams engage in dysfunctional behaviors or fall into territorialism, apathy, and unproductive relationships. The result? An overwhelmed, unengaged, and stressed-out workforce that settles for average or poor performance.

Here, four authors with a combined century of management experience show readers how every team can be extraordinary. The authors introduce their field-tested Loyalist Team 3D assessment that allows anyone to get to the heart of why teams break down, identify the weaknesses in their own team, and build a Loyalist Team. This kind of team has members who ensure each other's success as they work to ensure their own, operate with absolute candor, and value loyalty and authenticity to deliver results, create a healthy work environment, and help companies succeed. The Loyalist Team is a must-read for anyone who wants their team to achieve extraordinary results.

The Loyalist Team

This book was amazing. If you lead a team or serve on a team you must read this book. I couldn’t put it down.

In it I learned the four types of teams.
1. Saboteur Team: This team is focused on personal wins, and failure of others is the path to success.

2. Benign Saboteur Team: Members of this team are focused on self-preservation and survival.

3. Situational Loyalist Team: The members of this team are focused on keeping things moving in the right direction.

4. Loyalist Team: Members of this team are focused on the organization’s success, and the success of others is viewed as a success for all.

I found this book captivating with detailed illustrations and practical steps to improve your team. I would highly recommend it! http://amzn.to/2EUOD5A

I found this book very helpful on evaluating your team and improving transparency, accountability, and trust. I'd recommend it for team leaders as well as team members. Everyone on the team has to be committed to put the team first in order to experience great team dynamics.

Written in a narrative format, this was a quick read discussing 4 different types of teams. Using the case studies it was easy to see my leadership, the teams I lead and teams I am a part of fitting into one of the 4 types. The most practical and direct application came near the end of the book when they listed out several steps to creating the "Loyalist" team. The assessment and checklist discussed in the book is also helpful to give a visual of where you are as compared to where you think you are.

Interesting concept on building a great team. It is definitely hard to build a Loyalist team as it takes a lot of courage to initiate and to expect everyone on the team to do the same and i can see its so easy to go back to Situational Loyalist or anything lower as there are changes in the team. The last example given in the book about Ian and his team, it is hard to get someone like him who care about team dynamic and even made effort to ensure his team stays as Loyalist team even when he retires. I dont think i have been a Loyalist team or work under someone like Ian

I have read a lot of books about teams and leadership and execution over the years, and articles, too. This book is not entirely unique, but it is very well put together and well thought out. As I read it I could see elements of my current team very clearly in one of the sections, and the book helped me think about how I can behave differently to move my team more toward the Loyalist Team description.

Once you get past the heavily weighted word "loyalist" and understand the notion that good teams work to bring benefits to the whole group, this book provides a clear description of good teaming. They examine different types of teams and team members who are either working for - or against - your team and your company or school. Then the authors explain how to move toward a more loyalist team.

If your team doesn’t trust you, good luck on moving the needle on projects. I read this book for a work bookclub and something that stuck with me is different seasons of life call you to be a different type of leader. This is a good book for brand new managers.

The authors believe that everyone in any organization deserves a great team experience everyday. They provide many strong examples of the different types of teams and how rhey need to change to reach a loyalist status. Throughout The Loyalist Team the authors present the idea that becoming a member of a loyalist team is not out of reach for anyone or organization. However, this sort of teamwork is not easy but can be achieved through constant communication and each individual member of the team adjusting to the other members of the team . Overall this book is an easy read that will remain a ready reference on my desk for the foreseeable future.

This book is a must read, because of all the books on team. dynamics and culture out there, this has the simplest, repeatable approach to diagnosing and changing poor team performance and ultimately a roadmap to better corporate culture.
It helps that I have seen the authors in action, and have witnessed first hand the impact this simple yet powerful framework can make.
No matter what level of an organization you are in this book has important insights and tools to change the course of a team.
