Keep me safe
3.5 stars

This was different than I expected. The author was right in giving her warnings that this was not a lighthearted read. I struggled with certain aspects of the book, not the dark parts because I had been warned, but in the transitions. They took me out of the story quite a few times as I tried to piece together what had happened.

I still enjoy this author immensely but this was not my favorite. Initially, years ago when I first read this I had marked it 4 stars. However, rereading this as part of the boxset I have found that I didn't enjoy it as much.

Trust in Me
4 stars

I had forgotten that I had read this book years ago, long before I knew the importance of reviews. I reread this as part of the Dark Nights boxset. It is still as dark and sad as it was the first time. There is a reason that the author gives a warning. The hardest part of this story is that it felt as if it could be something, and most likely is, that could happen. It is proof that there are some vile humans in the world and that not all monsters are imaginary.

Don't Let Go
4.5 stars

I was worried going into this book that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. I had heard many mixed reviews on it. I needn't have worried because this finally tied everything together and gave me the conclusion that I had wanted in regards to seeing Carlos get his due. However, I was not expecting that this book would not only answer all my questions, some I didn't even know I had, but that it would come with a major twist.

The first part of the book, I struggled with in regards to making the connection between the characters. However, once Carlos came into the story again, it all synced together. I finally had a connection and from there until the ending, I was enthralled.

Wow! Very Dark. Violent. But With The Happy Endings That You Would Expect From This Author

Fabulous box set, but only if you can stomach the violence. I've read the author's books beginning with the Stepped series thru Overture, and decided to go back and read her earlier works. I was pleasantly surprised! It felt like there was more care put into editing this set, as I encountered fewer inconsistencies and errors than in the author's later books. That said, the third book in this set has me scratching my head more than the first two. I hate to give five stars to anything that isn't nearly perfect (for its intended audience), but I had to forgive those mistakes and give this five stars because it was just that good.

Keep Me Safe: This is by far the shortest of the three books in the set. It accomplished a lot despite its length. The violence begins early and is shocking, but as you might expect, the shock loses its potency as the story goes on, and the focus, for me, was to get to the happy ending (as the author assures us she is a romantic and writes happy endings). I wish this book were longer because I became attached to the couple. By the end I had to jump right into the next book in the set.

Trust In Me: This book also has a lot of violence, in a slightly different context but with the same criminals from Keep Me Safe. There is a little mention of the couple from Keep Me Safe; however, I would have preferred just a little more to link the stories together. The ending is moving and satisfying.

Don't Let Go: The flavor of this book is much different. There is little violence in comparison to the other books, and the story mostly takes place outside of the criminal lair. I did not see the twist coming, not in the way it turned out - perhaps due to lack of sleep for trying to get thru this set? - but things got tense and really pulled me into the story in the last quarter of the book. That does not mean the first three quarters were bad; just different. I don't recall any links back to Keep Me Safe, but Trust in Me was linked to this book. It felt as if Keep Me Safe's hero should of necessity have had at least a mention. That was one of the inconsistencies that I found in this book. It felt like Keep Me Safe might have been written as an after thought. I loved the couple here, and like how psychology was used to show how people are motivated, sometimes to do horrible things, and sometimes things aren't what they seem. Another great ending.

Keep Me Safe: 2 stars
Wow, this was truly a disappointment... It had potensial but missed out on all good opportunities it had to be good. It had several typing errors, the story was just too unbelievable and holy shit, the amount of dick sucking... it got repetitive and boring FAST!

Trust in Me: 1 star
God, what is it with this author and blow jobs??? I think reading this series has put me off them for a lifetime... ugh! I usually skip the blow job parts when watching porn, it is just not that pleasant to watch. There is mor abuse and blow jobs in this than actual sex, which I must say I find a bit weird for an erotica.

It was simply unpleasant to read this book. I hope the last one in the series won't be such a letdown.

Don't Let Go: 3 stars
I liked this a lot more than the two previous installments in the series. The sex scenes were better and had more variety but took a long time to start, like about 50% into the book. But I liked the main character and her inner struggles. Carlos felt a bit different in this one though... I kind of pictured his like this greasy pig in the last book so the description of him here took some getting used to. The book was very predictable but all in all a decent book.

Three Stories That Intertwine

The first book is about Rachel, a waitress at a bar who is kidnapped while walking home after closing the bar one night.
The second book is about Mia, a young girl who is sexually abused by her father, who runs away from home, but is barely living in the streets. She witnesses a murder in the alley she uses to take her johns, then she gets picked up by the guy who did the killing in a limo. He "buys" her for $200.
The third book is about Samantha, an FBI junior agent who gets picked to be the partner of a senior agent who is going after a big crime lord, one that has eluded the Bureau for years.
To see how they all fit together, you need to read the books. But do so, only if you have an open mind to alternative sex practices! It can be somewhat brutal!

Maybe it is me but

Not sure how to review without spoilers. It is not often that I leave mediocre reviews but this box set started with a story that is unimaginable. I am a dark reader. My 3 stars is not due to the dark side but more about contradictions from the get go (I quit then wait works calling...) or the method in which people meet and love is sprung. I can imagine and get into fantasies like the best of them but when I truly tried to press on and got 30ish percent into this, I gave up. Not going to waste another minute of my life on this one. Sorry to give up, but I need a good dark book right now.

Not sexy, pathetic.

If gratuitous abuse is your thing, read this. In the last book there is a chance for two damaged people to heal but it doesn't happen. He is attracted to her vulnerability and strength. He "loves" that she is starving for his attention and acceptance. No matter what humiliation and violence he subjected to, she takes it. What she "loves" about him is that he takes care of her wounds and holds her tenderly as she cries of blacks out.

What a s*^t book. DNF at 20%

But it was extremely painful far before. Do not waste your time and certainly do NOT waste your money. There was nothing redeeming about this attempt to write a story.

Spellbinding

From beginning to end I could not spot reading. It’s not my first Skye Warren book to read far from it, but it is actually the most fascinating yet. It’s dark all throughout but the love that shines through is hypotonic.

Dark, even for this author

This does come with a warning so heed it. The three novellas are gut wrenching yet in the end a villain is somewhat redeemed. Warren is a spell binding author. This book is not for the weak

Brutal and mind twisty…

These are extremely dark stories, the darkest I’ve ever read, with bizarre twists that kept me reading. But, so brutal and really hard to read.. the wrap up was good, but really I was thankful it was done!

WOW!

When a dark romance make you questioning your self, questioning your moral compass, it mean the author has done a good job writing their book.

And this book is that!

Wow!!

You spend the first two books hating Carlos just to see him completely differently by book three. I won't spoil the surprise, but wow what an intense and dark ride. These stories are the type of darkness that I like. Really good read.

*This box set contains the two books and novella prequel of the Dark Nights series.*

Book 1

Coming on the heels of Keep Me Safe I was so happy to read Trust In Me. And by "happy" I mean still horrified by the subject matter, but finding the book to be more fleshed out.
As the author's forward warns, along with many of the reviews, this is a DARK book. I read a comparable series by another author who described her work as an "erotic thriller" (and in fact she is adamantly opposed to anyone calling her work "dark romance"), and I have to say that seems to apply here as well. I don't view the bulk of this book as romance. It is more like a thriller with an HEA. Like a horror movie where the victim falls in love with her savior.
From a heat standpoint this wasn't my jam. BUT, I knew what this was going in. I came for the story, not the heat. Because there was no heat for me in any of what happened to poor Mia. Sadism is so profoundly unappealing to me. And Carlos? He is definitely a sadist. He is the devil. He hurt her, and very badly, for fun. He didn't care for her or about her as a person. He kept her alive, but treated her worse than a possession. I hope a terrible fate befalls Carlos. Truly.

Book 2

Loved it, and I am thoroughly confused as to how that happened.

This is Carlos' book. The same Carlos to whom, at the end of the previous book, I wanted terrible things to happen. And I stand by that regarding the Carlos from the previous book- I still don't like him.
That said, the Carlos from this book is... humanized, somehow. He still won't be a book boyfriend of mine. I'd call the cops on him in a MINUTE if I were any of the females he'd come across in these books, but that's just me. If a man were to do to me what he has done to these poor women, Jesus... I'd devote my life to putting him in prison. Or killing him. One of the two, depending on how much of a mental breakdown his treatment had caused.
This dynamic of a sadist in a relationship is something I truly can't wrap my head around. I just don't get it. That said, as brutal as the interaction is when Samantha is kidnapped, there are other parts of the book that are hot.
I was so confused by this book. Flustered. And I couldn't put it down. Despite how much of a bastard Carlos is, (and he really is), the author gives a one-two punch of taming his monster a bit in this book, and also explaining his damage/hang ups. Still, the things he did to Mia in the previous book are inexcusable- truly horrific. That Carlos should burn in Hell. The Carlos from this book, while way past the point of simply cruel, is nowhere near as evil to Samantha as he was to Mia. And thank goodness, because a man doing those things to a woman couldn't possibly have an HEA with her. Also, I wouldn't WANT such a man to have an HEA.
Ok, let's be frank- I still hate Carlos. What he did to Mia in the previous book when she didn't swallow that first time? NO FORGIVENESS. EVER. And when he "treated her like a puppy" and let other men hurt her? When he brutally whipped her, splitting her skin open? Hurt her to the point she was bleeding out onto the ground? Carved his initial into her stomach? SCREW CARLOS.
Ok, I am calming myself. This was still a good read. He is far less brutal to Samantha, and equally important is the fact that Samantha likes how he treats her. She likes the pain (I would argue that is due to significant emotional and mental damage, but whatever). In contrast Mia tried to escape Carlos and his torture, but he had her dragged back and nearly killed her in retribution.
I am on the fence about whether I would re-read. And I wish there were an epilogue where Samantha would come to her senses, leave Carlos to pursue aggressive counseling, and Carlos, distraught, would either take his own life, or make a mistake and go to prison. Forever. Now there's an HEA.

Side note, I thought we might get some information about Trunk in this final book. After what he did to Mia in the previous book, and who he turned out to be... I thought we'd hear more about what happened after the fact. But we got nada. I would totally read Trunk's story!

It was definitely on the darker side. I've read some pretty twisted books, and this box set ranks right up there with them.
Sequentially related, each book had itsown set of Heros and heroines with a common a common enemy. There are tons of twists and turns as each story progresses, and in the end you're left flipping back through all three books as things are made clear and explanations are made.
If you love very dark themes and don't have triggers to kidnapping, forced intentions, rape, human trafficking, and violence then you might enjoy these books.

The darkest side of humanity

Warning: For mature audiences. Explicit sexual scenes, consensual and not. Strong BDSM and dark pleasure/pain. Violence.

Skye Warren tells a dark and gritty tale surrounding one man in three books. She delves into the darkest side of humanity with sure and strong words. She'll pull you in until you are surrounded by the world of the underground. The plot is intense and characters larger than life. This will make you think long after the series ends.

Skye Warren excels at writing about complex anti-heroes. I love her note at the beginning that warns readers that this is a dark romance. There's human trafficking and rape. My favorite story was the last one about Carlos. The big bad in books 1 and 2; he redeems himself. I'm not sure if I believe it. He was a sadistic pig to Mia in Book 2; but in Book 3, Carlos has been rewritten a tortured man who is capable of love. I am not sure if I buy it. I feel like Warren is really writing two different characters.
That's why I gave it four stars.

I wasn't even sure if I would finish this book. It was so tramatic. The last story especially. But even with all of the bad things that happened there was love to be found in the pain and sorrow. Someone for everyone. Someone to see past the hurt and pain and still want to be there. It was amazing. It was dark. It was twisted. But it was so worth the read.
