There Was No Escaping the Killers on Their Trail...Or Their Forbidden Attraction

He said he hadn't wanted to take Chelsea Swan hostage. Jonah Fairfax claimed it was the only way he could keep her safe from the terrorist cell he'd infiltrated. Chelsea didn't trust his secretive past or his steely blue eyes. And she certainly didn't trust the edgy, vulnerable way Jonah made her feel. Then his cover was blown and Chelsea was caught in the cross fire.

Now, on the run across the unforgiving Colorado Rockies and with nowhere to hide, Chelsea had no choice but to accept Jonah's protection. Her life depended on doing exactly what he said - consequences to her vulnerable heart be damned....

Jonah "Fax" Fairfax is an undercover operative who has infiltrated a terrorist cell in prison in order to get information on a planned attack. Chelsea Swan is a medical examiner who unwittingly gets caught in the middle during a prison break and is taken hostage by the terrorists. Fax frees Chelsea, his cover is blown, and the two now find themselves on the run as they flee from the terrorists while trying to expose the planned attack.

I really liked both Fax and Chelsea. I liked how Chelsea started out as unsure of herself and thought herself a wimp, but as the story progressed she became a more confident woman able to take control of situations and of her life. It was an action-packed, entertaining read, that held my interest throughout.

Everything is not what it seems. Jessica Andersen comes back to her crime lab stories. I haven't read the first three books in this series but that's okay because the author writes stand alone books. It's great if you have read the earlier books.

Jonah "Fax" Fairfax is an undercover agent. He's so far undercover that his mom and brothers have written him off as a murderer. Chelsea Swan wishes that she was like James bond, but she's written herself off as a wimp.

When Bear Claw Creek gets the bodies of three terrorist and Jonah it goes a hundred percent different than Chelsea ever thought. The bodies are not dead and in a matter of moments she's being kidnapped and saved at the same time. She doesn't understand why a murderer would save her.

Chelsea soon finds out that Jonah isn't who he appeared to be and she is helping him. In the process of trying to figure out what happened to the person that was supposed to help Jonah they not only started putting pieces together, but falling in love.

Jonah doesn't' usually fall for the girl. He has been burned before by his own wife. Now he is finding that Chelsea is breaking down all his walls. He found that not even his wife who betrayed him had found away to do that.

When Chelsea's life is in danger after Jonah finds out that the one person he trusted isn't on his said he puts his trust in Chlesea's friends. She told him that he had been on his own so long he had forgotten what friends where like. She was thrilled that he trusted her enough to trust her friends.

I loved how Jonah seemed like one type of guy, but deep down a completely different one. I also was glad that Chelsea realized she wasn't a wimp. She finally took charge and Jonah helped her see that she could.

Seth, Cassie, Tucker and Alyssa from the previous three books in Bear Claw Creek Crime Lab books were in this book as well. There were two love scenes and they were actually written out instead of skipped right over. Jessica Anderson did another excellent job.

Chelsea Swann, medical examiner at Bear Creek gets kidnapped by escaping prisoners from nearby prison, ARX Supermax. The four escapees are 3 terrorists and undercover operator Jonah Fairfax. Jonah manages to keep Chelsea alive and both must work together to stop the terrorists from an evil plot.

Overall: Rather one dimensional bad guys (the leader was named Al-Jihad, which amused me), a hokey plot involving many law enforcement professionals not following procedure, and I didn't really buy the attraction between the two main characters. I felt irritated by the continual repetitions of Jonah thinking of Chelsea as being "sweet", and seeing her as a representation of all that is good about America (apple pie, picket fences, the American Dream), and of Chelsea taking note of Jonah's piercing blue eyes. There was also a weird back story where Jonah's first wife cheated on him and died during a miscarriage, which Jonah remembers as a "betrayal" which pushed him into his current loner state. What? She's DEAD now you know! What I did like in this book was the eventual backbone and self-awareness that Chelsea develops through the book. I'd give this book an "Eh". ALSO: He never wears a cowboy hat in this story so what's with the cover?

Awesome series, one of my absolute favs! Definitely recommend!!!

Chelsea had a hard time believing who the real Jonah was, the one took her hostage, and had to kill her? Or the one who rescued her and the one who would come to her house to check in. But she found out he was truly the one best guy when his cover is blown, they come after her but he's there to protect her and even love her if she would let him!

Fax me a better story -- and a hero who's not named Fax!

Hey, Abbot! Who's on first -- what's on second -- I dunno's on third. I dunno if mixing Terror and Romance is such a good idea! Who is the hero, anyway?

No, who's on first. Fax is the hero.

Who?

The hero!

Fax?

No, the hero!

A little predictable, cookie cutter storyline that forced me to suspend belief a couple of times, but still enjoyable if you don’t take your romance reads too seriously.
