Rate this book
Communicating in Groups offers a concise, step-by-step introduction to the theory and practice of small group communication, and teaches students to develop and apply critical thinking in group problem solving. With the firm belief that group participation can be an uplifting and energizing experience, authors Kathy Adams and Gloria Galanes give students the tools they will need in order to achieve this outcome. Research and theory are presented with a focus on what is important to students--understanding their group experiences and making them effective communicators.

Was decent in terms of getting me through my communications class but the authors really showed their prejudices throughout the book. They would talk in first person on one page and then use racial slurs on the next page (white women). Also a lot of white feminism and anti-trans choices (ex. Constantly saying she/he and women first language but never using “they”which would’ve made more sense. Also not mentioning anything about gender identity in the diversity chapter 🙄)

Read this one online, which is never my favorite experience. It’s okay for a communication textbook but not my favorite.

Read it for school. Definitely not the best textbook, but the chapter (I think it was 2?) on the theory of communication was the best one. Other parts could be super boring and basic but it had some good info scattered around.

I am reading this for a communications class at UCCS. I like the style; there are plenty of real-world applications and examples.
