Aided by powerful enigmatic beasts out of legend, a young woman leads her people on a war of vengeance.

This book features a world peopled by a number of races who for some reason hate each other. To add to their woes the sky is perpetually overcast.

The protagonist Famere is of a race called wyshea (elfy types who hang out with wolves). Following an attack by humans, she ends up as leader. Legendary giant wolfy beasts called Shadows appear to help her pursue her plan to kill all the humans. But not all the humans are bad guys, and not all wyshea want to follow her lead.

What with multiple races and factions, wizards, gods, three main characters, and a war, this is a short book for the content, and it can feel rather rushed and sketchy. I would have liked a bit more background on how the world works to give context. However, it certainly isn’t dull and the world is intriguing, though the characters are a little wooden.

The writing is a little clunky, but with few editing errors, very readable throughout. Though this book is intended as the first of a series, it works reasonably well as a standalone story.

I received a free copy of Wyshea Shadows in exchange for an honest review.

Started with a very solid initial chapter, which served as a great introduction to main character Camette. Enough hints were dropped/backstory mentioned to interest and intrigue the reader early on. Other main characters were also introduced gradually/individually so they reader felt they knew the individuals before they all came together.

Well written with good dialogue and action/description that complemented each other well. Good character development and a satisfactory ending which tied most of the plot points up nicely.

The only negative is that Wyshea Shadows was very military, which I struggled with but this is due to my personal preference and not a reflection on the writing. I am unsure if I would read the next instalment in the series due to this, but I would definitely like to read more by Geoffrey Saign.

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

This is the start of an epic fantasy book that centres around a world with several races who all seem to hate each other and are determined to kill each other. The story starts with three young women who are part of the hundred year war between the races and are pledged on killing each other. Famere is the Wyshea Butcher and is bent on vengeance with the help of her shadow mythical beasts, Jennelle is a human and a brilliant strategist who commands the Northern citadel and then Cametta is a Draghon who is determined to find and rescue her lover who was kidnapped. There are other groups of humans involved and an order of Wizards who may maintain that they are not involved and are above the conflicts. These three have to somehow work out who is their friend, who is their enemy, who has caused the dark skies and death mists, and if they have time after all of that if they have a chance at love.

This was a great epic story with lots of twists, turns dead ends and surprises. I liked the writing style and the detailed descriptions of the people, places and emotions being felt by all of the characters. It was lovely to have the centre of the story with strong females who were able to do what they felt was the right thing. This is the first book in the series but I think you could read it stand alone too.

I was a little hesitant in agreeing to read this when I first received a review request for it, but I thought the story and cover both sounded interesting enough that I would give it a chance. Wyshea Shadows: Divided Draghons was an interesting read full of fast-paced action and interesting creatures. This was one of those books where I made the mistake of thinking I could read a chapter or two to see what the book was about and then be able to sleep afterward. I finished Wyshea Shadows in a single sitting that kept me up till nearly 3 in the morning.

There was quite a bit about this book that I enjoyed, but a lot of it I can’t really talk about without spoiling it for people. I can say that I thought the book was fairly well-written and immersive enough that I actually lost track a time or two and ended up reading much later than I had originally meant to. The characters were surprisingly well developed for the first book in a series and I found them believable and easy to empathize with. Without spoiling anything all I can say about the story wat that it was interesting enough that I always had to read one more chapter to see what happened next.

As much as I enjoyed the book, there were a few problems that I hope will be addressed in the sequel. My main issue was that I found the dialogue to be a bit stilted at times and the conversations could feel a bit forced. I’m hoping that we see these conversations and interactions smooth out and flow a bit better in the next book.

I would say my favorite part of this book was the draghons themselves. Despite the cover, I made the assumption that the book was going to be about dragons and the author chose an odd spelling for some reason. The two are in no way similar and I thought the draghons were fascinating creatures and the scenes with the draghon Camette were some of my favorites in the entire book. I hope we get to learn much more about them in the next book.

I think Wyshea Shadows has a lot going for it and I would recommend it to just about anyone who’s looking for something a bit new and interesting to read. I will definitely be following Geoffrey Saign more closely in the future and checking out the rest of his books.

There's really not much I can say about this one without ruining the story for other readers. I can say it was extremely well written, character development was well thought out, and story development was on par with some of the greatest Fantasy epics ever written. The only issue with the writing that I found was that because of the shifting character perspective, it was, at the beginning of some sections, difficult to determine which character's lens the story was being told through. Once past the first sentence or two in any given section this was no longer a problem though, so definitely not a deal-breaker.

Mr. Saign has done remarkably well in his endeavor into epic fantasy. I definitely look forward to reading the next book in the series whenever it is released!
