Only reason I'm not giving 1 star is because it's evident how much work and research went into this book. However, it was impossibly dull. The blurb specifically states that this book is primarily intended for the general reader with an interest in history and only secondarily for academic readers. To me however, it seems like it is rather the other way around. It was just facts after facts and, so it seemed, a row of names and places.
