From an amazing stick insect longer than your arm to gigantic spiders as big as a dinner plate, this book's huge fold-out pages let readers discover how big some of the biggest bugs in the world really are.
Emily Bone grew up among the rolling hills of Hampshire, writing stories about the ants and birds in her garden. After studying English at Cambridge, she found her dream job at Usborne in 2007. Since then, she's written about many weird and wonderful creatures, along with books on space, fashion and food.
Another usborne book that Rowan can't get enough of. He remembers a few of the names of bugs he's just learned, and will always flip to the pages with his favorite bugs first. It has tons of little tidbits about each bug and wonderful illustrations.
Didn’t actually read this as the illustrations of the bugs etc were just too big and creepy-looking for me. Need to get a little further on my journey to appreciating bugs before I’m ready for this ;-)
A lovely, massive hardback that shows massive bugs, many life size. Has a great section on the world's deadliest bugs.
Only a few minor negatives: It's a little shorter than I'd have liked, it doesn't tell you where the bugs are from, and the harlequin bug (which they call the Asian lady beetle) has a boring picture that looks like a regular ladybird (ladybug).
This book gets 5 Stars because my 5 year old son LOVES it! One of his favorite books to read with dad. He loves the beautiful illustrations and the huge fold out pages. It helps that the illustrations are basically life size for all of the bugs, so it gives him a true perspective of their size. Great bite sized facts.
The series of Usborne Big Books cannot be missed! Some of the pages fold out. The illustrations are excellent with exquisite detail. There is terrific trivia about bigs in this book. It’s a perfect one to pull out again and again. Kids love it!
This nonfiction book on bugs has great illustrations that will keep almost any kid drawn in. Recording breaking bugs (biggest, deadliest, etc) teach kids interesting facts and fold out pages extend the reading experience.
Best part of this probably is how the sizing of the illustrations matches with the bugs size in real life. Would be nicer to have added origin of them.
