Shelby Mansfield is single, and prefers it that way. Or so she thought until Nash Bennett almost killed her.
Well, not really, but Shelby doesn’t care. Ever since she met Nash by accident, her life is rolling down hill, fast. Her latest string of bad luck is sucking the life out of her, and Nash won’t go away.
Shelby thought life was grand, she has a great job and her trusty B.O.B, and a medling best friend, but she never realized what she was missing until Nash.
Nash is an EMT with the Charleston Fire Department and feels so bad about almost killing Shelby, though he knows that’s an overstatement. Then a real accident brings them closer together and he can’t seem to stay away from her. Something about her draws her to him and he won’t stop until he has her underneath him.
Will Nash steal her heart away from B.O.B? Or will he breach her trust and send her running back to her trusty sidekick? Will Shelby give her heart away and still hang onto her independence?
Or will disaster strike before she can make up her fickle mind?

Thoughts: So, other than a few confusing parts about Shelby and with a bit more editing this story is solid. I loved it! I call dibs on Nash!!! He’s funny, charming and dirty. A perfect combination for a book boyfriend. Be sure to have tissues, especially near the end when you meet Amber. I sat at the bus stop, waiting for the bus, trying not to cry as tears just overflowed from my eyes. It was so hard not to start bawling. Anyway, if you are like me and can enjoy a story while looking past a few mistakes then please, grab this book!! You won’t regret it!
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work and chose to write a review.
I guess it's true a reader must see the "whole character". Shelby is a mess! I didn't know whether to hug her or medicate her!
This story is lighted-hearted and cute! The story line is good and there are several meaningful moments throughout the story. You must pay attention or you will definitely miss something! Yeah somone rather.....someone by the name of Nash. Nash is a EMT and he exactly what Shelby needs. Now if she will just stop, breathe, and check dude out, all will be well!
I enjoyed reading this story. I know there are readers that might find the satire of the book comedic but I didn't. I did read the book and it was good but in my opinion, it should not have been listed as a romantic comedy. I was looking for a rom-com and it doesn't read like that. THIS IS MY OPINION. I didn't find it funny at all. Shelby is a klutz/clumsy girl. She has a chair rolled over her foot, getting a cut on it. She's in an accident in a rainstorm and gets a concussion and these are not her fault. These are the first and there are many more.
Batteries Not Included is the first book I have read by Christa Lynn and now I need to find and make time to read some of her other books. I loved how lighthearted the story was and even thought it was hilarious at times it also had more serious moments as well. It was a relatively quick and refreshing read! I felt like I was a part of the story (like a third wheel so to speak, being taken along for a ride).
Shelby Mansfield has as close to the perfect life that she could ask for. She owns her own business, has her own house and even a crazy best friend, Sarah. She likes the simplicity of her life and tends to shy away from craziness that Sarah tries to draw her into. Unfortunately, Shelby seems to be having a run of bad luck. The upside to all the bad luck though is Nash Bennett, the gorgeous, blonde, built-like-a-god, EMT, that seems to show up every time she is in need of rescuing. The last thing that Shelby wants is a man in her life, but will the constant run ins with Nash, show her that all men are not created equal?
I laughed out loud plenty of times with this book. The banter between Shelby and her crazy best friend, Sarah was awesome. I loved how Shelby would say she didn't need a man in her life, but she would lose the ability to speak when Nash was around. I loved that Nash was so caring and somewhat persistent with Shelby. The chemistry between the two of them is awesome, but will it all be enough for Shelby to leave her single days and her B.O.B. behind or will ex's from their pasts and misunderstandings end them before they really even have a chance to begin?
If you are looking for an awesome, romantic comedy, that is a quick, sexy and somewhat lighthearted read, then this is the book for you. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Christa Lynn's work in the future.
You know.. they say "If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all!" In Shelby's case, that is so so true. It is like a comedy of errors for her and you don't know if you want to laugh or cry with her! Though through that bad luck, she finds Nash. I love Nash's persistence with her as Shelby really does need it. I find I relate a lot with Shelby as I am so not lady like and I could care less about a lot of things like her! There are a lot of heart breaking moments in this book as well as a lot of amazing highs that both Nash and Shelby experience. The passion between the two is undeniable as well as their overall chemistry. I really enjoyed their banter as well. They really played well off of each other. The best part is that both of them face their demons that they both have. Whether it be the bad luck or something even darker in Nash's case. Overall, as the first novel I have had a chance to read from this author, I am really pleased with what I found. Lots of laughs, spicy moments as well as a lot of emotional tugging on the heartstrings. This one is well worth the read!
Shelby has no luck at all, the things that happen to her will have you laughing out loud! When she injures her foot though she meets the sexy EMT/firefighter Nash and from the first meeting she cannot get him out of her mind.
When he later comes to her rescue again Shelby decides to give in and goes out with him. The chemistry between these two is undeniable and the sex is HOT!!!
When Nash has an accident trying to save a little girl from a burning house things change slightly, there is a misunderstanding and Nash has to try and fix things or risk losing Shelby forever.
This is a fantastic book and if you love romantic comedies you will love this!
Batteries Not Included is my first book by the author and I fully intend to find time to read more of her work. Shelby wants to be alone, no men. She's snarky and a touch bitchy but she has her positives too! She's got a questionable best friend, a great job and a man after her who doesn't give up. Nash, lord have mercy I can't find a single fault with him (other than a certain time frame that passed without him checking in) He's a fireman/EMT, built like a greek god, loyal, sweet, sexy, determined. But he's also haunted. And that is the one thing that could make or break his attempts to keep Shelby.
I laughed, I may have cursed a bit, I loved the back and forth banter, Shelby's mouth made this book. 4 stars.
Another 5 star read from Christa Lynn!!! Follow the story of Shelby who by chance meets Nash who is a hot fire fighter. Their paths keep crossing and Shelby can't seem to get Nash out of her mind! They start a steamy affair and tragedy strikes. Why Nash is out of it, he keeps talking about Jade! He says " I love you Jade" Shelby decides to step back from the situation and let Nash be with Jade! What is the story behind Jade? Who is she? Is this all a misunderstanding? Will Shelby and Nash survive and find happiness? Don't miss this hot, steamy story of two lost souls trying to find happiness!!!
Christa Lynn knocked this one out of the ball park! It's funny, well Shelby is anyway, and it's fun. It's been a while since I read a good romantic comedy, and this is definitely a good one.
Shelby loves her single life. She loves it because the hassle of a relationship isn't a hindrance to her. Then her foot is run over by a gorgeous man she was tossing things at in a bar. He's persistent in his pursuit of her, but she's equally persistent in her intention to avoid him. Sorry Shelby, avoidance is not in the cards! As fate would have it, their paths are hell-bent on crossing.
Their story is funny, aggravating, sexy, and one-clickable!
This needs a critical editor. Shelby’s vibrator is variously referred to as Fred, Frank, and B.O.B. Nash’s dad is a doctor & his mom a teacher, but he refers to himself as the son on a fireman when telling Shelby about Jade. (Oh, and hey, can we not be so sexist that all of Nash’s shit of firefighters and EMTs are men? There’s seriously not a female FF/EMT on the squad in this world?) Sarah is frankly a pretty shitty friend. Nash following Shelby to Fipps when he’s “known” her for like two seconds is not sexy or charming; it’s stalkerish. Why didn’t Ray tell Shelby who Jade was or tell Nash he called her Jade (or both)? How is the nurse immediately jumping to Amber going into foster care and being put up for adoption before anyone knows if the kid has any relatives and/or if her parents appointed a guardian? (Nash makes the same leap and then literally a page later says that it will depend on if she has relatives.) His parents don’t live in Charleston, which is where she’ll be with social services, and have not previously been foster parents, but they just end up with Amber?
It gets 2 stars because the sex is hot & I’m a sucker for a fireman. But the book is pretty messy and could use some work.
I really wanted to like this book but I think it could use some improvement. There were some good LOL's at first but then it faded. I can't believe I'm saying this but there was a little too much sex. The story became way more erotica than actual romance and the "Romantic Comedy" was kind of lost in that. I also kept thinking she was going to catch him in a lie because he said his mom and dad were of certain professions and then later said they were something else. I'm now assuming it was nothing but a mistake on the writer's part. Really? This is a big error because he apparently decided his career based on what his dad did. I can't believe the author nor betas, editor, etc. caught that.
Disappointed. I was in the mood for a rom-com, but did not even crack a smile. This was slapstick comedy, which I haven’t found amusing since I was 5.
Where are the editors for this? First, grammar, but also clarification of things. Shelby’s vibrator was called Fred in the beginning, then later Frank. Is this an error, or is it the name of her new toy? Same with Nash’s dad. He was supposed to be a doctor, then later a fireman. Error or career change?
I also had issues with the BFF (self centered), Nash’s mom (didn’t like the way she handled a situation) & the excessive sex scenes (I started skimming).
This is the first time I’ve read this author. After reading reviews on 2 of her other books, it seems lack of editing is a reoccurring theme. Not sure I’ll read any others.
This is the first time I have read any of this authors work, and good lord, it will not be the last! Shelby likes the simple life, and runs her own business. Every time she seems to need rescuing, gorgeous EMT Nash appears on the scene. I loved the banter in this book between Shelby and her bestie Sarah. Shelby is determined that the last thing she needs in her life is a man, but can sexy Nash who is persistent and determined, change her mind? You really need to read this for yourself to find out! This is an awesome read, which is hilarious, light-hearted, and fun. I cannot wait to read more from this author.
Shelby is a hot mess with horrible luck. Nash is great for her and the way they interact in this book makes it hot and funny. It’s an easy going book with some really funny parts and others that make you sad for them. I felt that things didn’t flow right I had to go back and look like I missed something but otherwise it was a good book not a fav but not disappointed either. I would probably read more from this author too.
This is an an incredible story filled with love, loss, humour and everything in between. Out of tragedy can come hope and so much more. I can't wait to read more of this authors stories! You will definitely want to read this story! What are you waiting for? One click away!
Short review. Shelby doesn't believe that she needs love in her life but the universe disagrees, a comedy of errors keeps pushing Shelby and Nash towards each other. The book was funny, witty and charming, it's hard not to fall for Nash and not just because the man is smoking hot but because he's sweet and has a big heart.
Oh my gosh, I can do relate to Shelby. She is a strong, funny and very accident prone. Nash is a sweet and sexy fireman. This book is full of LOL moments, sexiness and action. I loved all the characters.
I know Christa called this a comedy romance and in it is, but it has an emotional side to it. I did enjoy it. I loved the fact it was set in the Carolinas. My favorite beach is Hunting Island.
A woman who struggles to live without love in her life by choice. A friend who meddles and drinks way too much; and a sweet guy who just wants to be with her.
Some inconsistencies in the story and a lot of missing words. This would be much better if the editing wasn't so bad. Maybe a redo of editing and fix the inconsistent parts. B.O.B was nicknamed FRED then it was FRANK etc... otherwise I enjoyed the book.
Nash and Shelby are perfect for each other but it takes her a bit longer to admit it. I love how much passion there is between them, even when life seems out to get them. And the plot line of Shelby having such bad luck is so good. 😊
This book is a must!!! It's so funny!! Poor Shelby. She has the worst luck. So clumsy but has one smart mouth. Sarah, Shelby's best friend, is so delightful. The banter between the two of them is out of this world. Sexy Nash Bennett, EMT, s a little bossy sometimes....in a hot way. His secret can destroy his relationship. Best romantic comedy. I'm volunteering an honest review for an advance reader's copy.

This author's new to me, but it's safe to say that I would definitely love to read more from this author. I definitely enjoyed the book so much so that I could relate to the characters. The book is hilarious, refreshing and something new. Though there was a bit of plot holes in the story, it is nothing that can't be fixed. Shelby is one hilarious lady for sure. And let's not forget about the sexy Nash! *Totally Swooning here* The story was light-hearted and an enjoyable read. I would definitely pick this book for a relaxing weekend.
I have not laughed with a book for a long time, and this book had me chuckling away through it. Shelby is so fun and i love her musings, i felt a great affinity with her in some areas of life. But me i would not be able to Nash at arms length for a second he is so sexy sounding. A very fun but also romantic comedy, a great writing style also. Recommend this book strongly to everyone needing some fun and romance in their reading
I really enjoyed this book, it was a beautiful love story full of comedy. Christa Lynn has a writing style that makes it easy to visualise the story as you read and laugh at the humour. This was my first Christa Lynn book and I definately need to read more.
This was the story of Shelby and Nash. She is an owner of an Advertisement Agency he is an EMT/Firefighter. A series of accidents / emergencies have them crossing paths and falling hard for each other until a misunderstanding following one of these occurrences sees them go their own ways. With some interference from a friend and a touch of fate they reconnect, sort things out and recommence their lustful relationship, but there are still dramas that follow.

Title: Batteries Not Included Author: Christa Lynn Genre: Adult romance, comedy Rating: 4 stars
This book was filled with humour and plenty of sexy moments, there's some sad touching moments too which pull on the heartstrings. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If it wasn't for bad luck Shelby would have no luck at all and clumsy seems to be her middle name, she finds herself in various situations that lead her into the path of Nash the sexy EMT/firefighter and it all starts with a peanut to the head and a foot injury. She can't get him out of her mind and despite her going going into bitch mode everytime she's around him he isn't put off, he wants her and it would appear that what Nash wants he gets there's a touch of alpha-male about him he gives off a good dominant vibe I certainly wouldn't say no to him and eventually neither does Shelby. The chemistry between Shelby and Nash was there from the very beginning and only got better/hotter as the book went on, the sex between these two was hot with a capital H!!! it's not all plain sailing there's a misunderstanding which rocks the boat but it gets resolved. Nash confesses his love for Shelby to her but it takes an emotional incident for her to reciprocate the words back to him, but she does and they get their HEA.
I loved this book it was soo funny at bits and emotional at other times, if you're after a romantic comedy then I highly recommend this one.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book through Be My Book Boyfriend.
