Such a refreshing format... no chapters, no verses, no subject headings to chop up the text and distract the reader. The text is formated to reflect the parallelism in the poetry or grouped into paragraphs to reflect any narratival sections. The pages aren't the typical onion-skin style found in most Bibles which turned out to be far more pleasant than I had anticipated. It's easy to get lost in the reading similarly to how one might when reading any other piece of literature. I sat down and read Job (42 chapters) in two sittings. Highly recommended!
The Psalms are always a pleasure, but Job and Ecclesiastes really popped for me this time as incredible, complex, and human expressions of pain and disillusionment. Let nobody ever tell you the bible presents a false or flowery vision of life or forbids godly people from experiencing doubt.
Beautiful poetic formatting. Easy reading of the poetic and wisdom literature. It’s wonderful going through the Psalms, Proverbs, etc. in big swathes. The wisdom in Proverbs staggered me - it is definitely a book better to be gnawed on slowly rather than chowed down, but I still gained so much appreciation for it reading through this time. Psalms particularly struck me - it is amazing to see how much attention God receives. How much adoration and praise and worship of God for his character is all throughout the Psalms. The end of Job, God responding after all the bickering and philosophising, was sensational. Overall, a wonderful read.
While the Bible is the Bible (five stars!), I found the reader’s edition of the wisdom literature less helpful than I did when reading narrative. I ended up missing the section headings.
Again, fantastic production on this Bible series. I can't recommend the format of the text (so beneficial to read long chunks of scripture), and the production quality is amazing!
