The battle for the City on the Sky was over. Moriana had over thrown her evil sister and retaken her rightful throne. Now the celebration can begin and, for the moment, they can rejoice and revel in their hard fought victory. And then that moment is lost... trampled beneath the clawed feet of those who only a few breaths before, Moriana had called her allies. Worse...those allies have called back to the world one of the Dark Ones and now the celebration of dancing and victory has become a flight or terror and death as the citizens of the City in the Sky quickly become the vanquished and must flee to the land a thousand feet below to save their own loves.

Robert Vardeman and the late Victor Milan continued to build a world of wonder and excitement while also turning it into one of loss and pain as they gave us this 5th book in THE WAR OF POWERS series. What makes this so interesting to me is that their characters as both amazingly heroic and amazingly flawed as they accomplish the greatest of feats but only by using the darkest of deeds...and at what a cost.

Vardeman and Milan worked extremely well together cowriting this series and keeping the energy flowing as it moves towards its final chapters.

Be warned... there are some explicit sex scenes and encounters throughout the series. But those really are few and far between.
