Nintendo Co., Ltd. is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. Nintendo is one of the world's largest video game companies by market capitalization. Founded on 23 September 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi, it originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. By 1963, the company had tried several small niche businesses, such as cab services and love hotels. The word Nintendo can be roughly translated from Japanese to English as "leave luck to heaven".
Abandoning previous ventures in favor of toys in the 1960s, Nintendo then developed into a video game company in the 1970s, ultimately becoming one of the most influential in the industry and Japan's third-most-valuable company with a market value of over $85 billion. From 1992 until 2016, Nintendo was also the majority shareholder of Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners.
As of 31 March 2014, Nintendo has cumulative sales of over 670.43 million hardware units and 4.23 billion software units. The company has created and released some of the best-known and top-selling video game franchises, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon.
Look Nintendo, if developing from a blob squid into a sassy b*tch who says SPLAT YA L8R to all your crushes isn't a metaphor for transitioning then I don't want to live in this world.
love this book! I recommend this to fans of Splatoon and art. It's over 300 large pages of concept art, game art, little facts, and even some Splatoon Manga. it also hints at a version for Splatoon 2 in the future. great for a gamers coffee table.
Hands down, gorgeous art book. It has everything from character designs, to clothes outfits, to the dang fonts they used. Really well thought out and worth every penny.
A nice artbook! Has some really cool stuff, but most of that was widely shared by the time I got around to reading this. The manga in the back was a fun time, but confusing at first due to the change in page direction. I didn't play Spla1n, so I'll probably like the Spla2n book better if I can ever find it via the library system.
I like these type of books. The first ones talked alot about the hardware and software needed. The changes they needed to make and other challenges. These days most of these books talk about the character design process and the environment of the game/movie/show. This was a little different, a page of baseball caps and sweatbands. :)
This book shows a rare glimpse behind Nintendo’s concept art. And it is HUGE. There’s so much reference and colorful art put into each section. They go beyond the characters and show the weapons, clothes and even shoes! Definitely recommended for any Splatoon or colorful art fan.
