I hate when this happens...you see a series that sounds promising until you start reading. This author mixes tenses and switches back and forth between second and third person. I only got a few pages in before it drove me to abandon the book. Luckily, I had only borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited and did not actually pay for it....
I loved this book. The author kept the characters to true Jane Austen form. Her style of writing made the characters come alive during reading. I couldn't put the book down until finished. The story line was so exciting, dramatic and very humorous. I laughed and cried. A must read!
If I had only one word to describe this book it would be awkward. The book is written in Third person present tense which an uncomfortable read, it almost feels like you are reading a script. In one section you may be subjected to the perspective of multiple persons which quickly becomes confusing, Then there are the locations and times which seem to move around with little warning. Often a chapter would start and I would be confused as to where the action was taking place.
Apparently the author had her own issues “I we have always think she uses good manners or sense” I have no ability to translate that sample into English.
Then we have the plot. There are some P & P variations that go wildly off canon and I rejoice and go along for the ride; this book does to it's detriment. We are told that Charles Bingley's mother lives in a Irish hovel cottage with her sister and that Jane and Charles go to visit her and stay in this rural cottage for their wedding trip. It is inconceivable, to me, that if Mrs. Bingley was alive she wouldn't have attended the wedding at Netherfield.
Now with all of that said there were some decent parts of the book, I enjoyed when Jane finally awoke to the rudeness of her mother. I also liked how Lydia had plotted how how much money she would get from her family and how best to spend it. But these don't make up for the other issues.
I loved Pride and Prejudice and it is probably one of my favorite novels. I was excited to find this book that continued the character's journey after the original novel. I felt that the characters were portrayed as they were in the original novel, which added consistency to the book. I love Lizzy's character and she is dealing with many new things in this book. Her sister has her own family, she's dealing with the Bingley's who aren't always so nice, and she is dealing with the personality differences that her and Mr. Darcy share. I thought that the book represented the time well and it was so fun to see Lizzy and her new hubby in the honeymoon stage! Can't wait to read the rest of this series!
I have enjoyed what I've read so far. I look forward to the rest
I finished the book. what a great book. I thought the author did an amazing job capturing the essence of the time period and showed a sense of humor as well. I look forward to more from this author
My new favorite book! I felt like I was reading something Jane Austen herself wrote. I loved the introduction of new characters. I look forward to more from Denise O'hara
