Matteo Valente is an up-and-coming filmmaker whose award-winning documentary put him on the map two short years ago. It was that very documentary that also led him to the beautiful, intriguingly elusive Brooklyn James. From the moment he laid eyes on her through the lens of his camera, he couldn’t shake the feeling that their meeting was no mistake. Their connection was instant, but Brook has been hell-bent on keeping him in the dreaded “friend zone” while she chases after her own dream.
When Matt pays a surprise visit to Brook the day she graduates with her master’s degree, she is forced to take a second look. “Come with me” were not the words she expected to hear as Matt prepared to leave town again. The invitation to spend a week in L.A. left her breathless, but there were so many reasons to turn him down; so many scenarios that could ruin their close friendship, but… at the risk of regretting it later… she said yes.

MATT AND BROOKLYN is a New Adult contemporary romance that will make even the most jaded of romance readers such as myself bend. Although I have been made to eat my words a few time about not enjoying NA romance, as a general rule I do not search out stories that feature adults trying to find their way in the world. They tend to be overly angsty, too much manufactured drama, and the heroines usually make my eyes roll all too often. Raven St. Pierre has managed to shut me up with every story that I have read by her. MATT AND BROOKLYN is not just a good NA read it is an excellent romance. Period.
Matt and Brooklyn's romance is so sweet and hard fought for by Matt that I found myself smiling often because of his tender handling of Brooklyn. Matt is the type of man that mother's want for their daughters and smarter young women want for themselves. Matt's patience, diligence, and sweet hotness made this reader happy, happy, happy. I will admit that there were moments when I wanted Brooklyn to just pull her fingers out of her eyes, look past the end of her dang nose, and embrace what most women would give their right arm for. The love and loyalty of a man who looks at her as if the sun rises and sets just for her. I often found myself thinking "Girl, you better grab you some." Brooklyn tested my patience; however I understand why she felt and did what she did but I wanted her to be impulsive and love struck as only young lovers can be. But no, Brooklyn is much too regimented and focused to let loose and cast caution to the wind. I know, I know! Those are wonderful characteristics to have for a young woman to have professionally but it doesn't make for a sweeping romance. Never fear though, things do work out as they should.
Family dynamics also play a role in the nice pacing of this story. Both Matt and Brooklyn's families are important to them and their ongoing stories are woven in very well. I am definitely looking forward to what the next book will reveal about their family members, their connections, and what is in store next for this dynamic group of people. If you haven't figured it out yet, I am a big fan of Pierre's writing style. Pierre gave me everything that I could have asked for. MATT AND BROOKLYN has been added to my favorite reads list!

I was given ARC of this book for a honest review. I was not paid for this review.
This is another great romance from the Again For The First Time Family Saga.
Whilst reading Matt & Brooklyn's story, I fell in love with Matt and the song "When A Man Loves A Woman"! I am thinking of the version by Michael Bolton, well it was his voice I could hear ringing out in my heart and mind. This song sums up the story for me:
When a man loves a woman Can't keep his mind on nothin' else, He'd change the world for the good thing he's found. If she is bad, he can't see it, She can do no wrong, Turn his back on his best friend if he put her down. When a man loves a woman, He'll spend his very last dime Tryin' to hold on to what he needs. He'd give up all his comforts And sleep out in the rain, If she said that's the way It ought to be.
Matt showed what it really means to love a woman whilst giving her enough time and space to find herself and realise that she loves you right back.
I did want to shake Brooklyn a few times because she could not see what was right under her nose. Matt was the hero of this story for me, a real example of how a man should love a woman.
I am not going to give anything away you will need to read this story for yourself.
You ever read a story where you just wanna slap the piss (like Mama Braxton told Tamar) outta one of the main characters only to have them redeem themselves as the story progresses? Yeah, this is one of those…I swear Brooklyn Rose James has tried me more times than a teenager sneaking out on punishment. This girl was exasperating yet such a sweetheart at the core of who she really was, and for that, I dealt. I’m lying. Matteo Giovanni Valente made this story, and I’ll fight anybody who challenges me on that!
While this story is part two of the Again For The First Time series, it is a stand alone. We have another Valente-James pairing this time, and it’s Luke’s brother Matt and Lissette’s sister Brooklyn. Luke and Lissette are the main characters from book 1. Would you have to read book one to follow along? Nope. Would you want to read book one to follow along? Absolutely. Book one sets the foundation and not only gives you an introduction of who Matt and Brooklyn are, but it also gives you background on all the other characters who have prominent supporting roles in both stories (Side Note: We’re dealing with a family of 5 sisters on Brook’s side as well as Matt’s 2 brothers and their extended families so yeah, scoop book 1 cause I hate picking up a book in a series without having a full set. I’m anal that way…)
Matt and Brooklyn’s story contains secrets and lies that were merely alluded to in book one. One thing you’ll notice about this book is that this is a true love story. There’s not a whole lot of angst and drama between the two (not including their prospective careers and bicoastal living), but all the crap they deal with is from other family members (and when you have 7 brothers and sisters and a host of nieces and nephews between you, then yeah, you’re going to be pulled into some shit.) I also like that the story shifts between Matt’s and Brooklyn’s perspectives. Matt is a saint among young men cause what dude do you know will wait a whole 2 years (That’s 730 days, 731 if a leap year) for the woman of his dreams? I’ll wait…Exactly. Matt has been in love with Brook since their first awkward meeting, and the feelings only intensified as their families merged and their friendship grew. The only problem is Brook has friend-zoned him because of some past drama, and she has been focused on her education for the last few years. Matt was really cool about it. He let their relationship progress at Brook’s pace, and this grasshopper’s patience paid off in dividends, but not after some exasperating moments and shocking revelations. Matt, Matt, Matt!!! He had me at:
“As long as there was life in my body, Brook would know she was loved.” Oh and this gem here: “Brook, you could literally go anywhere in this universe and it wouldn’t change a thing. I’d still love you. I’d still want you. I’d still wait for you.”
I.WAS.SWOONING. And this girl don’t swoon…
Another cool thing about this story is it ends, but then it picks right back up and flows effortlessly into what will be the beginnings of the next story in the series which will take the reader through a virtual time portal of how the Valente men and the James women have always had a connection. I am so excited of what’s to come, but in the meantime, click this one up. Matt and Brooklyn are a sure bet.
It is so very refreshing to feel so idyllic after reading a story about falling in love and being it love....This story was so sweet and romantic, and I wasn't prepared to enjoy these characters as much as I did.
I thought Brooke was going to be this hardcore stubborn woman and that is my all-time most frustrating type of character to read about...How wrong I was...What a lovely person you've created in Brooke...She is brave in the purest sense of the word because she moved past her fears, not because circumstances dictated that she did but because she was in love....Wonderful..
Oh and Matt, I always liked Matt and thought he would be great, but you exceeded my expectations...how wonderful to read a story that makes you dream....I wish there were more people in the world like Matt...I hope when faced with type of life occurrences that Matt was faced with, I respond the same.
I'm so glad to read from a writer who is not so stuck on overcoming the ugliness in life that that theme consumes the story...I love that your love story is the focal point of your romance novels and you manage to not ignore the real life ugly but keep the love at the core...
You're so talented and I can't say enough how much I enjoy your storytelling...
This was another homerun for me...Loved Brooke and Matt's story....Please keep em' comin'
Raven St. Pierre is truly gifted. She has the ability to take an ordinary story of two friends falling in love and turn it into a beautiful, intriguing and unforgettable story that will keep you wanting to read until the very end! The combination of Brooklyn's stubborn headstrong personality which acts as her protective shell and Matt's patient but persistent love for her despite it, makes it impossible not to root for them. Yes, there are times when you want to knock some sense into Brook and tell Matt to just move on buddy - but you don't really mean it! LOL!! In addition to the hot romance in this book Raven also gives her readers great supporting characters with colorful personalities that make you wish that these people were your own friends and family. I ran the gamut of emotions while reading this book - from literally laughing out loud to fighting back tears. What a great love story! I have read all of Raven's books and they never disappoint.
I was given an ARC for an honest review. This is book 2 in the Again For the First Time Saga. Although this is a stand alone book I would highly recommend the reader to read book 1 first so one can understand Matt and Brook's family background. Matt and Brook start out as friends but Matt realizes from the beginning that he wants more than a friendship and he is patiently waiting for Brook to realize it as well. I love how the author shows the complications of transferring their friendship into a relationship especially when both have family and career situations to deal with. The author also touches upon the issues of although coming from a big family one can steal feel alone and the issue of abortion. I also love how the author adds her typical twists, turns, and suspense to keep the reader guessing!
What a great story. I liked the first story in the series but really loved this one. Lissey & Luke's story almost seemed like a fairy tale but Matt & Brook's story was more realistic.
Matt is every woman's dream man. I'm too old for Matt (sigh) but I would love a man like Matt for my daughters: kind, compassionate, respectful, affirming, loved with his whole heart and not afraid to show it. He was really mature for a 26 year old,
I liked Brook but must admit that her fear of intimacy at times made me feel really irritated towards her. Her need to be in control of her emotions at times was ridiculous.
Won't give away the end but there is a surprise (at least to me) but glad that they got to their HEA!
I absolutely loved this book ! Raven has been added to my favorite authors list , this story touched my heart. I'm in love with Matt ,every woman should have a man like him , but they can't because he belongs to Brooklyn. I love Brooklyn she is independent, smart , more sensitive than most people know , I had so much respect when she made the decision that plagued her throughout the book, and I loved the author for writing it that way. Matt and Brooklyn were meant to be together , Matt knew that and he put in the work to get his girl and watching their story happen, was simply a pleasure .
Loved this book. I often find that finding good friends to lovers stories can be hard but this one flowed so well that it was hard to put down. I enjoyed Matt as a character and loved seeing how his life had taken off from the success of his documentary. I did think Brooklyn's reason for not wanting to get with him was a bit flimsy for keeping her in denial for so many years but I really loved them together and loved getting to know their story. The book is well written and you can't help but love all the characters in it. Can't wait to read more in the series!
I really wanted to read Brooklyn and Matt's story after reading the first book in the series, and it was well worth the wait.
I loved the build up to the romantic aspect of these two friend's story. Matt knew he was attracted to Brook the first time he met her while filming the documentary about Luke(his brother) and Lizzy ( her sister).
The author took her time in building up their transition from friends to admitting they were in love; albeit with a few twist and turns to make it an interesting read.
I got this as ARC. And I gotta say this was fantastic book written by an amazing author. I won't give away any spoilers because I like my life too much to be killed by anyone on goodreads lol.But what I can say is that I loved Matt and Brooks whole relationship it was so beautifully told and I love the James family their closeness reminds me of my own family except I have older brothers instead of sisters.I can't wait for the third book to come out.
I've received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I loved this book. LOVED it. If there's something I love more than the Hate to Love trope, then it's Friends to Lovers, and this book delivers. I was drawn to Matt and Brooklyn from their initial introduction in "Again For The First Time." and loved their rapport with each other and their eventual closeness that blossomed into a wonderful friendship. There wasn't much angst in this book, which I was thankful for -- no "Big Misunderstanding" or illogical reasoning of not wanting to push the friendship into something more. It was just the friendship between two people gradually becoming more, and I loved that. I loved Matt and his unconditional love and unwavering support of Brooklyn. I loved Brooklyn and her logic and maturity. I loved both of them together.
*ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review* I loved this book. I loved the characters I loved that it frustrated me at times and I loved all the supporting characters. I don't know how she does it but Mrs. St Pierre has a way of making you fall in love with her characters. Her writing style is clean and beautiful her characters are believable, the dialog makes sense and her stories takes you on a wonderful ride leaving you wanting more. all I have to say is get this book you will enjoy every minute of it
Another awesome love story from Raven St. Pierre. I was happy to see Matt and Brooklyn finally get together. Again for The First Time, is an awesome series read. Both Brooklyn and Matt come from very close knit and interesting families, and watching them become one is awesome in the midst of the love stories unfolding. Keep them coming, Raven St. Pierre.
I LOVE Matt, Brooklyn I liked until she got her mind right, then I Loved her as well. I understood her being private and with her being the baby, everybody was in her business and she rebelled them being together, but she deliberately lied to herself on so many occasions, I wanted to smack her. I LOVE A BOOK, THAT GETS YOU THAT INVESTED!!!!!!!
Brooklyn and Matt are a wonderful couple and by the end of this story they seem to be on the cusp of unlocking a mystery. I've become a true fan of the writer, nothing seems trite and she leads you to were you'd never expect the story to go...refreshing!
I am never disappointed when I read any of Raven's books and was again not disappointed I absolutely love this book! Honestly I'm hoping Raven makes a story of the whole family lol keep up the great work Raven
‘It was the fate of her grandmother and my grandfather that ultimately led us together, but I was sure this was always meant to be the outcome–me finding the lover I was meant to have, spending all days living a real life love story with the only person I could imagine it with. My best friend.’ ~Matt
My tags for this feel good friends turned lovers story are… HEA / Steamy / Informative / Unpredictable / Easy-to-read / Wonderful characters / Witty / Original / Page-turner / Romantic / Realistic
Minor spoilers alert!!!
I loved seeing how Matt’s patient friendship laid the steady foundation for his and Brooklyn’s fall into love. Breaking down Brooklyn’s formidable walls was by no means easy for Matt, but he persevered and won her heart as his reward.
They first met at their siblings’ wedding reception, but quickly developed a genuine friendship. Brooklyn honestly had no time for dating men anyway. She had her plan to get her Master’s and then Ph.D. schooling done and move up in academia. She and Matt had quickly become up and coming young professionals in their respective career fields, and soon each had to make a major decision about seizing the next opportunity that would elevate their career even higher on the path to success. These two had major strength of character and encouraged each other to capitalize on their new career opportunity in spite of the challenge that would put on their newly romantic relationship. They were solid now in their love and knew the long distant phrase would not break them but rather it would make them stronger.
Nevertheless, I was happy when they completed their separate career commitments and reunited to actually research a story about Matt’s grandfather and Brooklyn’s grandmother.

After reading Book One in the AFTFT saga, I was hoping Raven St. Pierre would explore the dynamic between Matteo and Brooklyn. It was already clear then that there was chemistry between the two characters, even when Brooklyn was trying to ignore it. And it was also pretty evident that Matt was not the type of guy who'd give up without at least giving it a fighting chance.
Matt & Brooklyn is a swoonworthy NA contemporary romance that will hook you from page one. A friends-to-lover story, this novel has the right balance of bittersweet and hot romance to make it a great beach read. Brooklyn is stubborn to a fault and single-minded in her determination not to fall in love--even when it's obvious that she already has--will frustrate some (there were times when I wanted to be like Cher in Moonstruck and slap her and scream "Snap out of it!"), but her reluctance is also understandable. And Matt's diligence and devotion in the face of Brook's keeping him at arm's length is enough to make you melt.
I really enjoyed reading Matt and Brooklyn's story and I think you will too! Can't wait for the next instalment in this series.
To be frank, I loved this story. This is the second novel of Raven St. Pierre's I've read (3rd if count the joint project between her and Victoria H. Smith) and I loved it. I love that she took these two characters from the first book (which isn't completely necessary to read to understand the elements of this story, but I highly recommend you read it to get background information on one of the driving plots of the series in general) and fleshed them out in their own novel. I love that she took Matt from the first novel, a character I loved because of he was so hilarious, and gave more dimension. Brook as well. We were able to get a lot more understanding on why she was the way she was and we watched her change right before our eyes. With Matt, Brooklyn, and some of the supporting characters, we were able to see them face some pretty tough issues and work at overcoming them, something not all authors are able to do successfully. I highly recommend this novel!
Family and film making were the only top orders in Matt's like until he looked through the lens of his camera seeing Brooklyn. A connection denied from the start. Matt became a best friend holding on silently to his love remaining firm in hope that one day she'd finally see a them.
A young lady that puts the F in focus. Brooklyn sets out to control every aspect of her life. She doesn't have any friendships outside of her family until Matt worms his way in. Overlooking her unsociable ways they become best friends. Friendship draws them closer and her barriers all drop seem to drop, but one.
Matt and Brooklyn was a nice story, but for me something was missing. I kept waiting to feel that want or need as I continued to read through each page. Still nothing will take me away from Raven's writings. I will definitely keep buying.
Matt and Brooklyn book was given to me for an honest review.
Raven is one of my favorite authors. She writes in a way that is relatable. The characters are always well formed and rounded out and you can see yourself or someone you know in them.
Brooklyn and Matt - deep sigh. A tried and true love story. Brooklyn, ever the tough girl finally becomes vulnerable and you get to see a softness in her that all of us driven, independent, soft on the inside under the hardcore shell girls are. She loves deeply and undeniably so it's nice to finally see her in that way as well as her vulnerability and what has shaped her.
Matt always seemed like a perfect match for her with his great looks, calm but confident demeanor. It will be nice for those who haven't read the book to uncover if he's successful in his pursuit of her and if they wind up together.
This book will not disappoint! It will make your heart palpitate and eyes water.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. OMG I waited for this book to come out because I loved these characters in the first book. I could not wait to get my hands on the story of Matt and Brooklyn. Brooklyn was complicated and I wanted to hit her a couple of times but I loved how she developed into her character. I loved Matt from the beginning, he made no pretense of his feelings for Brooklyn. He was patient and understanding and that understanding/patience paid off. Matt gave her the space that she needed to come to terms with the fact that she loved him! These two are a powerful couple and I loved their interaction. What can I say other than you need to pick this book up, it can be read as a standalone, but in order to understand the backstory, you should read Again for the First Time!
I was given an advanced copy for a honest review. Let me start by saying the series is real. It takes on honest feelings and emotions and test the limits of love and friendship and how these lines can become blurred. We pick up with the story of Matt and Brooklyn. Matt is everything you hope in a man almost too perfect but what you want. Brooklyn, it was hard for me at times to understand her reluctance in letting Matt in, even with the reveal of why that was. I just wanted to smack her and tell her to snap out of it. We sometimes fall in the trap of painting everyone with the same brush and unfortunately it may hold us back from our blessings in the end love prevails. I enjoy Raven St. Pierre creativity and will continue to support her work.
I thought I reviewed this book immediately after I read it, but I realize that maybe I didn't hit enter. I absolutely enjoyed the first book's premise and could not wait for Matt & Brooklyn's book to be released. I must say, I truly enjoyed their story. Matt is just as charming and knows just what Brooklyn needs. Their time together was hilarious to the point that I got weird glances from my husband because I was giggling out loud. I was curious about what was going on with Matt's brother and the marriage that didn't seem like it would last. Issues involving that relationship are addressed and I felt was handled quite well. There were some tense moments in the book and still some family mysteries that need to be discovered. I look forward to the next book in this series!
I loved this book. It was such a GREAT read. Like I'm so heart eyes at this moment, I can't explain it. The only reason why I think it took me like 4 days to finish was because I was getting TOO in my feelings and had to stop several times, some of which for an entire day. I love Matt. He's Brooklyn's "the one" and I believe he's mine as well. Everything I look for in a man. He's the love of my life LMFAO. There really isn't any other way to put it but that one. Brook, she's a tough one but she's pure and in the end you cry a little with her. At least I did. I recommend this to anyone wanting an easy read, not emotionally heavy and lovable.
A must read! I wanted to read this book as soon as Brook’s and Matt’s characters were introduced in the first book. I love this book from start to finish. At first I thought Brook was being silly and possibly playing hard to get, but when I found out her reasoning behind her actions, I understood her better. I love the family dynamic in this book. When the sisters get together, it always bring those laugh out loud moments. I love that Matt waited for Brook and that he put his foot down when he needed to. Overall, this was an excellent, well written read that I would gladly read again and again. Loved it!
I really enjoyed Matt & Brooks story. I absolutely loved Matt he was very patient with Brook, because he knew from the first time he saw her that she was his soulmate. Brooklyn was in denial because of her past and very driven when it came to her education, which is a characteristic I identify with.
If you’re looking for a romantic read that start from being friends first before lovers this is the book for you. This is book #2 in a series so keep that in mind, but it can be read as a standalone.
