The Charlotte Anthony Mysteries #4

An Uncharted Corpse: A Charlotte Anthony Mystery

Rate this book
The strange appearance of a mummy at a conference sets off a chain of events with repercussions that go far beyond the staid world of academia. A suspicious death, a secret code, and a powerful sect combine to intimately connect the past to the present.

As in the previous Charlotte Anthony mysteries, the action takes place in Elm Grove and features characters both new and familiar. Charlotte's daughter, Ellis, returns to the typical small Midwestern town much more grown up than when she left, attracting the attention of both Tread, the scion of a political dynasty, and the handsome and slightly mysterious Selim. But she is plagued by an inexplicable sense of dread-and wonders if the answer lies in mysticism.

Charlotte again teams up with Detective Barnes to solve the present-day crimes, with the hope that she will finally unravel the remaining mysteries of her partner Donovan's colorful ancestry.

An Uncharted Corpse is the fourth installment of the Charlotte Anthony Mystery series, preceded by An Uncollected Death, An Unexamined Wife, and An Undisclosed Vocation.

This is an amazing story with fabulous characters. I love Charlotte and her team. This book is well-written with plenty of twists to keep me guessing to the end. I recently picked up the first book, I am looking forward to reading that, and also the next book by this author.

I didn’t realize that there were prior books in the series, so I read things out of order, but did not find myself confused and feel that this could be read as a stand-alone. However, I am now going back to read the previous books as I find this book extremely intriguing and would like to get more of the back story on the characters.

What I enjoyed about this book was the engaging writing style, the likable and very relatable main character Charlotte Anthony, and the mystery and intrigue that unfolded. I would highly recommend this author and the Charlotte Anthony series to anyone that enjoys a mystery with suspense and lots of twists and turns.

Moving, funny and convoluted

I can't rate this mystery high enough. The characters in this third book feel like old friends. The mystery kept me guessing even after knowing the murderer and the world view of evil conspiracies was chilling and almost too believable. My favorite of the three books.

I love the Charlotte Anthony books. This time the story begins with the arrival of a mummy. The close-knit college town and the recurring characters are wonderful and a nice setting. The story was well written and had me guessing to the end. I can’t wait for the next one.

Charlotte is surrounded by mysteries: a mysterious mummy, an intellectual mystery, and the mystery that is her daughter. An Uncharted Corpse is an intricately crafted novel that I enjoyed.

Review of Charlotte Anthony BookNumber Four

Although I did read this book out of order I initially enjoyed it, but it soon became tedious. I could not wait for it to end.

I didn't like book 3 much, and this book started out with a kind of grouchy scene, and I just couldn't bear to get back into that unpleasantness.
