Food for Thought

Rate this book
A reissue of a classic South African cookbook, which is at the same time a book of profound wisdom and great delight. Martin Versveld was a man of many parts and philosopher of renown and, in this work he provides stimulation and, quite literally, food for thought. If it offers new insights into what may be termed the semiotics of gastronomy, it also transcends our customary systems of thought to become an inquiry into human values."

Excellent! Uses food and cooking as a medium to discuss deeper significance of everyday things. As mentioned in the book food is our umbilical cord to nature. It asks question about how we interact with nature. How we source and cook food tells us how we develop and evolve as a human species and its this evolution that to a large extent takes us away from nature again, making our umbilical cord or connection with nature weaker.
