These are the first three books in a completed nine book series. I'm enjoying some of it, but I'm not sure I like where it is going. (I started a fourth installment.)
It's good military SciFi, which I like. The problem is, too many unbeatable foes that they beat. The enemy is too daunting a lot of the time, and I'm not sure I buy some of the engagements they win. Some subterfuge has been introduced, which I don't really like. I don't want to guess who is bad in their core. I prefer more of a black and white battle.
I like the characters enough that I root for them, which is good. Of course, we're going to lose some of them in battle, right? Being invested in them enough to dread if something bad is going to happen to them is a plus. That brings it up to my three-star rating.
I'll review again after the fourth installment, and decide if I want to continue with the series.
I have to confess that I was very happily surprised at how good this series is. RF certainly knows how to tell a good tale. He even has a new take on many areas which is very well done. He certainly made me react, especially in regard to the Alliance ambassadors on Bastion. Selfish to the core. But, when I look around at the world today, and in particular our governments, people, the leaders in particular, ARE selfish. As to the Ember Wars, it made me feel the sorrow and despair that war causes; but also the admiration for those soldiers who fight for what is right. A very good story. I thoroughly recommend it and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
Great read, non stop action. Couldn’t put it down and downloaded rest of series. His later work has better character differentiation, but start here. Plot twists are enjoyable and the author avoids the common mistake of creating challenges that are too constructed for the story. Conclusion, one of the better book in this genre, available on Kindle unlimited, and nice long series to keep you entertained.
Interesting apocalyptic scenarios, with a multitude a aliens, a seemingly implacable and undetectable enemy, and a destroyed earth. Fox kills characters you've come to like, has proven humans are humans, that we all have warts. Some of his characters are tropes, classic images of good, bad, and just human. I wii l go on to the next book, becAuse I want to see some resolution of the dynamics.
The three books were a good read with plenty of action. I prefer books by H. Paul Honsinger, where the characters were better developed and the action between interstellar ship combatants was awesome. I'm not really into soldier type action although the armor suits were similar to the "Space Marines" in "Warhammer 40K".
This trilogy is very I entertaining and has a cast of characters with personalities that are easy to identify within to enjoy. It a very different invasion story that is interesting and engaging. I look godward to the next episode.
This was just "OK". For me, there was just to many aliens.
Interesting characters. Interesting initial premise. After the first two novels, I gave up. Too many new technologies just in time. Too many new alien friends and foes.
My third read from Author Richard Fox, all different genres. A relatively short, less than an hour, sci-fic read in his Terra Nova universe. Well-written and thoroughly enjoyable (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Iron Hearts was really worth the read. Very interesting and made the main story that much richer. But Vent Rats was a waste of the maybe 15 20 mins it took me to read. As of now I don't see how it enriches the main story in anyway.
A great adventure, well written and amazingly riveting for the reader. I couldn't put it down I had to read it to the last page it was so good. I loved it!
