"Burt Kempner wrote such a sweet and touching children's book titled 'The Five Fierce Tigers of Rosa A Tale of Healing.' In the book Rosa is instructed by her grandfather to call animal helpers to her when she is ill or hurt and needshelp. When she becomes very ill the tigers who live inside of her to go to workto perform a healing. This is an inspirational tale for children of all ages, including us adults." ~ Sandra Ingerman, author of Soul Mending the Fragmented Selfand Walking in The Everyday Empowerment of a Shamanic Life

Like all good tales it encouragesus to dream about those aspects of self that are fierce advocates for all thatrestores our own wholeness. Burt Kempner's book is truly a delight." ~ Oriah"Mountain Dreamer" House, author of "The Invitation"
A sick little girl has five guardian tigers in her head, each with a different job/quirk/personality. There’s a leader, the efficient one, the funny, the one who was “far more interested in being right than being happy,” and the one who has trouble staying in one place. Thankfully there’s a flashback as to how they came into being, thanks to her grandfather/shaman. Somewhere in the middle the job of the tigers is revealed, then it all makes sense. Really nothing much to say here. The good is in the world building, as well as the characters. The plot itself is straightforward. The artwork is good enough, and thankfully the tigers are easy to tell apart. 3.5 pushed up to 4/5
What a wonderful story for capturing the imagination of a child, but not only that, adults will relate to this too. The message of this classic story is that inside we all have our strengths and we can use them to fight off any hurdles life will throw at us. My own little girl has her very own tiger called Lilly who she summons up whenever she feels hurt. This is beautifully written along with wonderful illustrations. Highly recommend this.
The Five Fierce Tigers of Rosa Martinez is a Children's Book written by the Author Burt Kempner and illustrated by Stephanie Richoll. The protagonist of the story is a brave girl Rosa. One day she got a cut on her toe and it was causing her pain. She rushed to her grandfather Luis to find a way so she can bid early goodbye to her pain.
Luis asked Rosa to call her inner animal helper for help. She thought of a tiger and five are always better than one 😁. She can summon the tigers whenever she is in trouble and needs help. This book gives a message to little readers that our strength lies within us. We just need to call our guardian animal to walk out of trouble with self-help
The story is written well and Illustrations are awesome. Tigers description could have been limited because main motive is to show that we can fight our own troubles by collecting our inner strength. Overall it is an amazing book and I recommend it to little kiddos so they can be brave and powerful like Rosa.
This is an absolutely endearing tale of the brave little girl and her five very fierce friends. The Five Fierce Tigers of Rosa Martinez showcases the power of imagination and belief. Sometimes all the help and strength we need is just hiding inside of us. Just remember not to summon your own tigers for frivolous reasons.
What a wonderful story, especially for sick children. In a fun way that a child can understand, it teaches them about illness and how it is combated. Great illustrations.
Liked: Creativity of plot (made me think of Inside Out at first but it goes beyond that to be more). It is about holding onto something to get through adversity for kids, Latina main character
Author Burt Kempner does it again....he caught my attention with "Monty the Movie Star Moose" and "Larry the Lazy Blue Whale," so when I found out his latest children's book is available in hardcover, I scooped it up for my son's Christmas gift. But first, I read it for myself, and cannot believe the timeliness of this jewel of a story. We have a close friend who is going through an illness now, and Rosa's "Five Fierce Tigers" will surely help her through, as well as help my son (and any child) deal with times that are challenging, as we all must in life. Thank you to Burt for creating such an accessible, enjoyable, useful book for young and old.
I received an electronic copy of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review. This is a well written and beautifully illustrated children's book about using visualization to heal and fight disease. Rosa Martinez imagines five tigers when she is sick. When Rosa gets pneumonia, her tigers arrive and rally to fight the bacteria. The story is engaging and fun for kids, while adults understand the gravity of Rosa's predicament.
