A great neglected novel, probably one that the American public has abandoned because it presented an embarrassing image of the war the Americans fought in Europe from 1944 to 1945... something that should be reconsidered now, after the two Iraq wars and Afghanistan and other not-so-glorious feats... written by a German Jew who had emigrated to the States to save his own life, learned English, became a psychological warfare specialist, fought with the US Army in France and Germany...

Vor über 25 Jahren habe ich "Nachruf" von Heym gelesen, seitdem stand Crusaders auf meiner Leseliste. Hat sich gelohnt, das Buch packte mich nach wenigen Seiten. Ob es auch funktioniert, wenn man die Lebensgeschichte von Heym nicht kennt? Ein beeindruckender Erzähler war er auf jeden Fall, die Crusaders waren beim Erscheinen nicht umsonst ein Bestseller.
