The preliminary chapters that deal with Parkinson's biography and give a brief description of the first of Cook's voyages are particularly interesting, and now I'm into the specific plates presented in chronological order by area visited, starting with Madeira, Brazil, and Tierra del Fuego. I had to turn this book back into the library before I could really read all caption information for each other plates. In the meantime, I've gotten a little less interested in the strict botanical rendering of plants as applied to my own art, but biographically I'm fascinated by the life of the artists on these voyages of scientific discovery.
