True crime shocker of an 18- year manhunt for a killer rapist on the run.
The murder of a San Diego woman in 1988 was eventually solved—nearly two decades later, and thousands of miles away after a Florida traffic cop pulled a man over during a routine stop. What transpired was an incredible combination of chance and relentless investigative work.
Another example of the miracle of DNA. One of the best laws we changed was to put a no limitation on murder. At one time there was just a few years after a murder that charges could not be filed regardless of the evidence. This story show justice can be served. It is the story of a young talented lady who had her life cut short before it began. It is the story of dedicated lawmen that never stopped caring and never gave up the hunt. It shows the sometimes uncaring attitude towards desperate women who resort to the under belly of life just to survive. It tells of the dangers they face and the dismissal by some police as "Just another prostitue murder" that prevails yet today. One must remember that even they have family that love them. They are daughter, friends, sisters and even mother's. If it were not for the attitude of the officers that took the reports from the living victims this killer would have been caught way before there were so many.
“I met the author, Tom Basinski, at The Southern California Writers conference when I attended his workshop, the content of which was so compelling I bought his book. Cross Country Evil is a true story of a crime that had detectives baffled for more than a decade. Quite by chance, things change after a chance traffic stop thousands of miles away. I really felt for the victims in this book, even though many of them were prostitutes and often don't get much respect or sympathy when bad things happen to them. Thoroughly recommend this book.”
It took 15 years for Janet Moore's killer to be found and put behind bars. Thanks to an expired license plate and a Daytona Beach Police officer a search of the Van was done. The police found a marijuana cigarette and DNA was taken and a match was found. Good book. Not overdone with details and about the court case. Did have a few irrelevant facts added here and there.
A California homicide is tied to a Florida rapist many years after the fact. In the afterword, author Basinski (a former cop) cites as his chief reason for writing true crime books, 'to let readers not involved in homicide investigation know what it is like to work a murder from start to finish.' He definitely succeeds in doing so.
I found this very factaul and the point. The horrible crimes this man did for years to women, no matter who they are and what they do for a living. Thank heavens they have put him in prison and he is not on the streets.
