GPA Ministries is a non-profit organization established for the purpose of developing, improving, and promoting University-Model Schooling nationwide for students in grades 1-12. Dr. Turner explains that UMS "is designed to bring together the best attributes of traditional schooling with the best attributes of home schooling and integrate them into one model. The immediate goal is quality, cost-effective, college-preparatory education accomplished in a way that gives parents more time for imparting the faith and values they hold precious. The ultimate goal is that of producing wholesome, competent men and women of character who make a positive difference in the next generation. It is also hoped that University-Model schools, both public and private, can gain nationwide acceptance among parents and educators as a schooling alternative that is needed in every community."
This is not a book, but a long advertisement for the University Model schools. It's not terrible, it's just not very helpful. I suspect it was a short, free book given out at a conference or a gift to new subscribers. As an educator, I was hoping to learn more about the model, but it was more testimonials from satisfied customers.
I bought it used. I will keep it on my shelf at school.
Dr. Turner's understanding and development of the reasoning behind the University Model school is very thorough. He communicates the ideas very clearly which I find very motivating in my thinking and opinions about education. I have loved the University Model school for many of the reasons he discusses but my favorite by far was being with my kids more in their school education & experience. I have had 2 children graduate from a University Model school and they have done well in University.
From Cornerstone Prep - a quick introduction to the University Model for education. It covered the basics of course length, parent roles, progress through the years with a few example from the "example school." Quick and easy read.
Fascinating model! Combines the professional support of trained educators with high parental involvement, following a university-like schedule. By the time students graduate, they are already quite familiar with the routines and character habits necessary to make it in college. I'd love to visit a school like this.
University Model looks great - we are working on starting UMS a school for this fall, or rather something like it, and this is a helpful introduction. Great alternative to private, public, and homeschool.
A quick read on University-Model Schooling. A must-read if you are considering entering into a parent/teacher partnership in the schooling of your children.
