I had always been okay at being boring and ordinary, of always doing the right thing and playing it safe. But when Marcus Ravelli came to live with us that one summer, the wildly sensual and dangerously handsome Italian bad boy made me yearn for the impossible. And everything changed.
Fast forward nine years later, and Marcus and I were about to meet again. I convinced myself that I would be able to handle it. But I was wrong. I still ended up acting like a docile little lamb in his presence, still ended up saying yes to his every suggestion---
No matter how foolish or dangerous.
No matter if it involved marriage.
I thought I understood how things were between us. I thought that because he was my friend, he knew better than to hurt me again.
But I was wrong about this, too.
So, so wrong.
Note: This is Book 1 of a two-part serial. Expect graphic scenes, heartbreak, and a painful cliffhanger.
Marcus is a rich, sexy, and beautiful Italian. He falls for his best friend's sister, Anneke. While spending a summer with them, he decides to peruses the quiet and different Anneke. Just when Anneke is ready to give in to Marcus, his father dies and has to leave suddenly. Nine years later, Anneke sees Marcus at his grandmother's funeral. During the services, Marcus shocked everyone by disappearing with Anneke. Even after nine years of no contact with Marcus, Anneke still loves him. Marcus must marry to keep control of his grandmother's company and he wants Anneke. Marcus does'nt believe in love, but wants a real marriage with Anneke. On their wedding night, he finds out she's a virgin. Marcus becomes so mad, he leaves a naked Anneke on her hands and knees in their wedding bed.........the jerk!!!!!! Realizing he isn't coming back, Anneke gets up and goes down stairs where she hears noises coming from a room. A young beautiful girl exits the room, followed by a satisfied looking Marcus. When Anneke questions Marcus, he just walks away !!!!!!!!! Why do you do this to me Marian!!!!!!! First you have me crying and then bam, I want to beat the S%*T out of him. Please hurry and release part 2 :) You really should stop with the cliff hangers........my nerves can't take it :)
*voluntarily and honestly reviewed this ARC I received from the author*
I absolutely loved the beginning and how Marcus' and Anneke's story came to be. It was so hot and yet so sweet, and getting the big picture between the past and present, and knowing what he'd done for a bit in college (Jaike's story) made it all so much better. The ending was a bit of a heart-breaker, for reasons Mr. Can't Cuss On Here knows about, and I'm a bit peeved by his actions, but it doesn't stop me from wanting the second part.
Loved the writing style, the hot chemistry, the characters, and this author... when she isn't doing dastardly things like this.
Anneke met Marcus through her brothers and he started courting her. Until their wedding night their love remained strong; then it all fell apart. Tragic time in Anneke's life, she so did not deserve this.
First, I have read her books in cliffhanger and standalone and I found great appreciation for her stories. But this one felt like something was missing. I know vagueness and suspense is part of the plot, but it was missing in action of character development. Marcus is interesting, but is he or is he not a dom in training. Anneke is truly naive, but submissive...NO! I will read to see what happens. Interesting to say the least.
I gave this story three stars but I know the story will get better in the next one. Marcus Ravelli has a past that haunts his every waking decision. He's accepting his life until he mets the famous Anneke. She's the sister to his closet friends. I love how the stories intertwined with others. Anneke is a gem, she's one of those girls that still exist in the world. The book isn't bad but I know the next will be better
The writer did an excellent job. This book kept my interest through the end, regardless how this book ended. Marcus went after Anneke even though they weren't a good for each other (as you get to the middle of this book, you will understand why). Marcus kept pursuing Anneke even though she did not have the sexual experiences he was used to. He pushed her to marry him, but on their wedding night, instead of being with his wife, he was with his submissive (prior to this statement, Dom was not mentioned). Anneke was beyond shocked because he slept with another women and told her to go home. When her brother arrived to get her, for some reason, Marcus couldn't stand to see her leave. This was sick man. This explained him be angry all the time with his employees.
Fitting title for a nasty character. Anneke needs a spine. But her naïveté is her most admirable trait. A woman in love, waiting...hoping for her man to return and he's a complete toss!
The beginning was quite slow for me but whoa did it speed up.
