I was familiar with the subject matter and was hoping for more in depth coverage of archetype. This is a great starter for people wanting a survey or cursory understanding of different archetypes. I did find some of the names and images not as female empowerment oriented in that they perpetuate a thin, white female as the height of beauty.

Quick read, some good tips

I’m torn on this book because I find the tips to defining your style helpful. However, I was put off by the various “archetypes” used to help visualize different body types/styles. The information about dressing to your body instead of trying to hide perceived flaws was good but, again, the archetypes (femme fatale, pixie, other stereotypes, etc) just did not do it for me. The “titles” given to her clients’ style boards were less female stereotypes and more interesting, imo.

I was able to take some information from the book and incorporate it into my life/wardrobe. I don’t think this book is for everyone but a subset of people interested in color or style analysis may find it interesting.

Disclosure: I downloaded this to kindle for free during an amazon/kindle promotion on the author’s page. A review was not requested. I would not have purchased the book otherwise.

Rachel brings logic and process to the otherwise heady and artistic world of personal styling. She expertly weaves your professional needs and innate design into crafting an image that will render your business more successful. Most importantly, Rachel does an excellent job of teaching the reader how to be their own expert. I felt empowered to deepen my understanding of what my clients, students, and patients need, who I want to be, and who I was designed to be. With that knowledge I feel more confident in going forward with more public aspects of my own business. An excellent tool for people like me, who are new to the public eye, especially.

Excellent, informative book full of details for discovering and implementing your personal style. Especially geared to women with their own businesses, who want to consistently present their best style to their audience. Lots of practical advice, interesting anecdotes, and concrete examples, written in a fun and approachable voice.

This is a personal style book for women, marketed as a guide to looking authentic for your business. It's really a brief introduction to finding a clothing style that suits your body shape with a few tips on dressing when filming videos thrown in. I'm not the target audience I guess, but I felt there weren't enough images or details. The author does style consultations and I feel like this was a teaser to get more clients. Happy to read it since it was free, but not really sure how to adapt her ideas to the workplace. I would need more information about what clothes to choose for different levels of formality and photos, photos, photos.
