First Words is another toddler classic featuring the beloved giraffe Sophie that
has become a favorite with my almost two-year old son. I purchased this book a
few months after seeing his interest in another Sophie-themed book, Colors, and
this book does not disappoint either. Once again featuring bright colors and kid-
friendly flaps within each page, this book exposes kids to familiar objects around
the house, asking the child to guess “what’s behind” or “what’s in” each such object.
Furthermore, each flap asks another question about the contents found “in” or
“behind” the larger object. As a result, my son has learned new words, reinforced
his knowledge of colors, and is gaining knowledge of different attributes associated
with different things. This is a book that can teach your child something new with
multiple readings, and for that reason it has my highest recommendation.

Nana sat on the floor and read this book to Jack. I listened from the chair, as he alternated between paying attention, playing, and trying to eat the book.

The book has some practical household words for babies to learn. It also tries to engage kids with questions. What I found annoying, and I know I’m being pedantic, is that some of the items didn’t make sense where Sophie “kept” them. Sophie’s a messy and unorganized giraffe. Lol

This is a great board book, with 18 words to learn and interactive panels for babies to open and look at.

There are lots of pictures and words for my toddler to point to, make noises about, and point out the corresponding item in our house.

Sophie's First Words is fun first words book that encourages more cognition than just memorization. I like that it asks the reader (and listener baby) questions about the pictures being shown. The pop-up panels are a nice interactive touch.

My grandkids (and my Jack Russell terrier) live the Sophie giraffe toy. This board book is charming. I love the tabs--much sturdier than paper flaps to discover what's underneath. There are questions and choices on every page.

Cool panels and lots of great illustrations. Not very 'baby proof' though. The spine came away after a bit of sucking and bits of chewed cardboard ad the be fished out of my daughter's mouth.

Sophie La Girafe ask kids to identify not only what is in/behind various items in her household but yet also an additional question to further support analytical thinking.

Mommy read me the English version of this book (which doesn't seem to be listed on Goodreads). I liked looking at the pictures and paid attention when she pointed at them.
