Am I the only one who puzzles over why kids' books always teach children that a ball is a circle, rather than a sphere? Or a box as a square, instead of a cube? I'm not sure that saying "cuboid" is harder to pronounce than "rectangle" or "sphere" harder to say than "circle." In fact, a child is already saying "cube" when they say "iced cube" - so why are we misleading them by insisting it's not a cube at all but a square, even though we're still calling it a cube? I think teaching them incorrectly is only going to lead towards confusion later on when they begin exploring geometry in school. But otherwise my daughter and I have enjoyed this series by DK - the books are sturdy and the pages well designed.

A board book introduction to shapes that gives young listeners the chance to trace each shape that will appear throughout the book in the opening spread. Numerous examples of each shape are pictured and consist of items that children regularly encounter (i.e. food, household objects etc).

Recommended for babies and toddlers.
