Trouble doesn’t always come in twos. Jack Barrington still has an army obligation that takes him away from the woman who had enchanted him when they were both in college, but Dottie Hamilton refuses to marry a man in the military because of the problem of raising cougar shifter cubs in foreign lands and the worry he may be killed while overseas like her cousin was, leaving a wife and three little ones behind. When Jack returns home to see his family and Dottie’s only living relative, her aunt, she convinces Dottie to bring her twins home to see her—and to see him. Jack has two-and-a-half weeks to convince Dottie to wait for him while he finishes his last three months on active duty. And learns the truth. Dottie’s twins are his own flesh and blood. Dottie has made a lot of mistakes in her life, including providing a father for her children by marrying a man, who turns out to be an arms’ dealer. When Jack returns to her after finishing his army obligation, he’s determined to prove he’s the mate she needs in her life, and he has every intention of being the father to his four-year-old twins. Now the criminal deeds of Dottie’s dead ex-husband have come back to haunt her. And she and Jack and their cougar friends will have to band together to stop the arms’ dealers before they destroy what the cougars hold dear.
Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.
She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.

I love this story because it shows that Fate works in mysterious ways and that if it's meant to be, it will happen. Jack and Dottie were meant to be. They met in college and there was an immediate attraction that went beyond the physical. However, Dottie didn't want to marry a military man so Jack honored her wishes. But when he had just a few months left on his tour and could either get out of the Army or renew, he went home and was visiting his "adopted" aunt who happened to be Dottie's real aunt and she cooked up a plan to get Dottie to town for 2 1/2 weeks. Before doing so, she told Jack that Dottie had twins who were born about 9 months after he left for his enlistment and that her son, Jeff, looked suspiciously like Jack. Jack was thrilled that he and Dottie might have children together. The time together sealed the deal for Jack and Dottie. After that, Dottie went back to Yuma Town to wait for jack to finish his final 3 months in the Army.
When Jack joins Dottie, he joins the Cougar Special Forces Agency on a mission to stop some arms dealers which winds up having a connection to Dottie through her dead ex-husband. One day while digging in Dottie's garden, one of the Yuma Town cougars finds a buried can which turns out to be a very big clue as to why her ex-husband had been returning to Yuma Town when he was killed. It's also the way that the arms dealers are finally caught and dealt with.
This is a definite must read in my opinion as are all the books in the Heart of the Cougar series. "Double Cougar Trouble has romance, intrigue, and suspense along with cougar shifters. How much more could you ask for?
His ex is a real psycho bitch!! She thinks she did nothing wrong but it seems like she fucks up everything like her bro. Dotty and jack met and wanted 2 b a fling but she has sum major issues about the service and she has good reasons. But after a long x apart sum things change and sum don't. But when family is involved u will do whatever it takes 2 keep them save from harm.
I enjoyed this story, I was happy for Dottie and Jack! There was quite a surprise in Dottie's backyard as well. Plus we got to meet a new cat shifter in the story and there seems to be something going on with Dan that makes me think he may have the next book in the series!
This is an excellent, awesome book!!! I love this series and this book! Dottie finally got to tell her story and got her man, Jake!! I can't wait for the next book in this series!!!
I didn’t like this book as much as others in the series. Mostly because I’m not a fan of second time romance. It made the heroine come off looking weak compared to the other female leads in the series.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading Dottie & Jack's story very much. I love reading a happy ever after story it makes me feel better after a very hard day. Thank you for writing this story.
With a rocky start, this series gets better and better. I like that all the characters are intertwined. The characters are getting more interesting and I think one should read these in order.
"Double Cougar Trouble" by Terry Spear. Book 4 in the Heart of the Cougar series.
I'm giving this book 2.5 stars because I'm split right down the middle of liking it or not. I liked the characters of Jack and Dottie, both cougar shifters with a past relationship between them. The overall story line was good and the romance between Jack and Dottie was really sweet.
Jack is a military man with 3 months left of his service. When he comes home and finds out that Dottie, the beautiful cougar he had a very short relationship with 5 years ago, is still available, he can't believe it. Dottie didn't want a relationship with a man in the military but if he can convince her to wait just 3 months for him, he knows they can have something special. Plus he's pretty sure he's the father of her 4 year old twins.
Dottie can't believe her aunt set her up; asked to come visit for a while when Jack just happens to be there too! It's just not going to work if he stays in the military. When she learns Jack is not going back, well maybe they can make it work. She just hopes he can forgive her for not telling him the truth that he's the father of her twins.
So that's the basic romantic story line of this book. The overall story plot involves Jack's ex-fiance, Dottie's dead ex-husband and a group of cougars up to no good. So here's why I'm split on this book.... I liked the overall plot of why these bad cougars are targeting Jack and Dottie. I thought it was interesting and exciting. What I didn't really like to much was the romance between Jack and Dottie. No...let me rephrase that. Their romance was heartwarming and sweet but I had a problem with their "life."
No angst, no arguments, no fighting, no disagreements. Nothing. Everything is just absolutely perfect. Jack gets a new job (no problem), the cougar town supports them (above and beyond), he moves in with Dottie and the kids (and the kids love him right away), babysitters available at their beck-and-call. Everything was so squeaky freaking clean....it actually got on my nerves. I guess their romance was a little to perfect for me.
Overall, I thought the book was good. The first half was a little slow but the last half moved at a really good pace. I liked the added teasing about another character, Dan, and what may be happening with him.
Dottie and Jack start out with a casual one night stand which blossoms into a relationship. Unfortunately Jack enters the service and Dottie dumps him as she refuses to be a military wife. Fast forward five years later when secrets are unveiled and Dottie and Jack get a second chance at love. Unfortunately Dottie's deceased husband has once again brought trouble to her door. Worse, it involves Jack's ex-fiancée and his ex-fiancée's psycho life criminal brother who are on a murder spree.
The plot is fluid and the characters are endearing. Plus the book leaves the reader wondering what secrets the sheriff is keeping, who the blonde at his house is and why a doctor was needed. Not to mention the opening is there for a caracal wild cat shifter series and another should the bear sighting be of the shape shifter variety. It's those open ended secondary character tangents which leave the reader feeling this book is a prelude to future books. Overall this book is one I would recommend.
As college sweethearts, Jack Barrington and Dottie Hamilton didn't see a future together. Jack's path was the military and Dottie was sure she'd rather raise a family home in Yuma Town than try to raise cubs in one of Jack's assignments, wherever they may be and after they're attacked Dottie counts Jack as her continued bad luck with men.
Dottie's been a third string character from the outset of this series and at long last answers whatever questions someone may have had about her many named criminal ex-husband. Familiar faces abound in this family-centric episode as Dottie gets to show backbone and new mate Jack has plenty of opportunity to show his soft side around the twins.
For my taste, the less mature writing style here wasn't strong enough to support a romance without much chemistry plus and this outing added to and (hopefully) wraps the long-winded smuggling thread. Overall, in my opinion, this outing was mundane at best, it felt like stretched filler despite the generous rating for being audacious enough to have a villain named Hellion! Rating: 3stars
I love Terry Spear shifter stories and this one is no exception. She has action, super characters (both main and secondary), good character growth, steamy scenes and laughter. I love how the women are just as involved in the problems as the men are. I am still anxiously awaiting Stryker's and Dan's stories.
Dottie and Jack are great and I love how some of the previous storylines are brought in here. You really need to read these in order from #1 to #3 and then the novella before you read this one. But you will enjoy it once you get to it!
Somehow I missed this one when it first was released. Glad I could catch it on the reread of the series! Likeable characters and a decent story. There was a lot of time dealing with villains kind of piecemeal, but they were finally all accounted for in the end.
