Women know I’m a bad boy. They know that they should keep their distance, but they never do. All they ever get is one night. The dirtiest, wildest, hottest night of their lives.
Court appointed shrink Dr. Julia Connors shouldn’t have been any different. She shouldn’t have changed me. But she did.
She asked me to tell her how I felt. All I wanted to do was lay her down on that couch and make her scream my name.
She was the only one I ever wanted a second night with. She was the only one I couldn’t take it from. And when old rivalries flared, I had to leave to keep her safe…I had to break her heart.
When my enemies find her, nothing’s going to stop me from coming back to protect her and the son I never knew I had.
I made a mistake by letting her go once, but I never make the same mistake twice.
This is a standalone, full-length mafia romance with a filthy-mouthed, possessive bad boy. Happily ever after guaranteed.
USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Amazon Charts Bestselling author Penelope Bloom is taking her first flight into romantasy—and yes, there are dragons. After years of contemporary romance, she's temporarily trading meet-cutes for magical academies and coffee shops for castles that reek of blood. She promises the banter is just as sharp, but now it comes with deadly consequences.
Fun fact: “Penelope Bloom” started as a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the family dog, Penelope—never meant to be anything serious. But then the books took off, and the name stuck. Behind the scenes, Penelope Bloom is actually a husband-and-wife team. He handles the writing; she edits, helps with brainstorming, and runs the reader-facing side of things (like social media and messages). So if you’ve chatted with “Penelope” online, you’ve likely been talking to her—with the author chiming in whenever needed. Together, they’ve built the voice readers know and love.
I liked the blurb for this book and so in order to enjoy it fully I went back and read 'Mine' first. I enjoyed 'Mine' and liked Julia so I was looking forward to reading her book but I struggled, especially early on. Firstly I don't like it when the h is too burdened and self sacrificing and this looked like it was heading that way. Now Julia has finally got her PhD, she's a Psychologist, a professional but yet 50 mins into a 1 hour session she's having unprotected sex with her patient in her office. Now to be fair... "You want me to cancel your appointments?” she asks after a long pause. "Yes,” I say. “I don’t want to be your patient.” Then they have hot sex and get caught by her boss. Ok, so I'm really struggling now, this is just crazy and so I decide I'm just not reading anymore but.... I just don't like leaving things unfinished and so I picked it up again and continued on skimming most of it. It's not that it's a bad book, it's not it's just so similar to the others and while I liked Leo most of the time he's also got the self sacrificing thing going on as well only in his case it's his brother. So Julia and Leo have the hot unprotected sex, he's hot, sexy, tattooed and filled with super sperm so she gets pregnant but before she can tell him his brother (who's a complete idiot) screws up and puts them all in danger so to save her life Leo disappears for 4 years without word. Okay, that's all you're getting. Like I said it's not a bad read, if you're looking for a quick light Mafia bad boy romance this could be just what you're looking for and after a rocky start it settles down into not a bad read.
I was offered an ARC but I downloaded from kindle unlimited.
4 Star Read: Among some of my favorites. Outstanding literary work. The characters are well developed, interesting. The liked characters are likable and the hated are unlikable. The writing is captivating enough to keep you interested until the end and leave you wanting more. It has a fairly original or uniquely well-developed plot. The pretense and romance were well balanced and done with properly distributed amounts of hints, behaviors, and chemistry. Not so much predictable if at all. Overall, loved it, I recommend reading!!
Dr. Julia Conners is a recently graduated psychologist and is in the process of establishing herself in her new career. Ted, her boss, is still holding a grudge from grad school, where Julia declined to go out with him. As such, he’s taken it upon himself to punish her in the form of assigning her the worst and most dangerous clients in the practice. Julia often finds herself stuck in her office with recently released ex-cons forced to attend therapy as a condition of their parole. Little did Julia know that one of these ex-cons would change her life during his first therapy session with her.
Leo Citrione walks into Julia’s office; he’s a gorgeous, powerful, cocky man who immediately owns the room. She is thrown off of her normal procedure as she sits with her mouth agape, staring at this beautiful, tattooed man. Ex-con, she needs to remind herself. Ex-con and her patient. Anything more than a therapy session with him would be a recipe for disaster and an impossibility.
Leo is good at reading people however. He needs to be in his line of work, where he threatens and intimidates people constantly. Much of his work boils down to a mind game, so he’s no stranger to trying to figure out someone’s body language. He knows that the beautiful Dr. Conners is very attracted to him and very aroused by him. Leo can feel the electricity between them in the tense silence. When they finally speak to each other for a few moments and his dirty talk and suggestive innuendos gets her heart racing and her skin flushing, he immediately requests another doctor to finish his mandated sessions. Thus removing one of her major qualms about giving into the lust. The rest of their non-appointment is the hottest, most incredible sex of Julia’s life. Unfortunately in the heat of the moment, she ignores the nagging voice in the back of her mind and these 10 amazing minutes change her life forever.
After reluctantly agreeing to give him a chance at a real relationship, they agree to meet up on a date, but as Leo pulls up to meet her, he realizes that he’s being followed. Any connection between himself and Julia will put her directly into the line of fire, so he flees. He heads out on the run from his brother’s mafia enemies and to keep Julia safe.
Julia is left alone, heart-broken, humiliated and pregnant. She closes her heart off to any possibilities of happiness with a man and focuses on her only priorities, her new child and her sick mother.
Fast forward four years and Leo’s enemies find out about his son and use his love for Julia as bait to bring him out of the shadows. This plan has unexpected complications, as Leo immediately jumps into over-protective/hyper alert mode and he moves in next door to guard Julia and her son Roman. When he meets Roman in the hallway of their dingy apartment building, he feels drawn to him and suspects that he could be his child, but at the moment chooses to focus on building up trust with Julia instead of interrogating her.
Julia’s heart melts when she sees her son with his father for the first time. Cold blooded killer Leo is sweet and kind to little Roman and it makes her wonder if she’s made a mistake keeping their son a secret all of these years.
What will happen when Leo and his brother’s mafia enemies finally catch up with him? Can Leo keep Julia and Roman safe? Will Julia give Leo a second chance at being in her life and a chance to get to know Roman? Is the light of their love strong enough to bring Leo out of the darkness?
Another excellent Citrione family novel. Mafia, mayhem, suspense, blackmail, super sexy scenes between Leo and Julia, sweet moments with their extended families and very happily ever after. Great secret baby romance! Absolutely loved it.
Standalone with no cliffhanger. If you read the previous two books in this series (which are both fabulous by the way!) you will understand better where Leo fits into the family tree and the connections surrounding the Citriones and Julia, but you do not need to read the first two, to love this one!

I really enjoyed reading Leo & Julia's story. You can feel their connection as soon as they meet. Leo just got out of jail and has to see a therapist who happens to be Julia. Leo wants her and will do anything to have her. One time together and their live will be changed. Leo is in danger and has to leave in order to save Julia but he doesn't tell her anything and just leaves. When Leo comes back to safe Julia and claim her as his, he never expects to meet Roman. Really good story that will have you reading in 1 sitting

For me this is the worst of this series, nothing new or fresh, predictable and at times unreal, I read as much as I could the plot and characters lacked something and didn't draw me in. I didnt enjoy it and gave up after a few chapters.
The third book in a fantastic series. This book focuses on Julia, whom we met in book two, who was working for Damian at his restaurant, The Spot. Damian helps her to finally pay to finish her Psychology schooling. When she finishes she works with Ted, who finished his schooling at the same time as her. Julia loves her job and loves helping people solve their problems. In walks Leo Citrione, ex-convict, charming and gorgeous tattooed Adonis. In their first session, they sleep with each other. In order to keep her safe after Leo's brother does something against the Family they work for, they go on the run. Four years later they are still running, until Leo gets word that they are threatening to hurt Julia. He returns and vows to keep her safe. Unbeknownst to him, Julia has a secret of her own which she is yet to reveal to him!!!
Great read, absolutely love Penelope's books as they are fast paced and really well written! My "go-to" author if I can't find anything else to read:)
3.5 stars A relatively short, instalovey mafia story with a secret baby. It was fairly light on the violence (compared to some things I read) and worked out well as a filler in between all of the darker books that I've done lately. I did this one by KU's Read & Listen, and while I'm not a fan of the male narrator's female voice, he was perfect as Leo. I wish there were more books in this series because over all, I liked it.
The way they were in such a scary situation and Roman was so impressed by her driving and was basically like “that was fun do it again” made me laugh a lot harder than I should’ve. Audiobook version was definitely worth it.
This is my third book from this author. The stories are entertaining and not that long. I am definitely reading her other books. My only suggestion to the author, and just because i've read the other books and of course, they have similar patterns...I believe the story needs more dialogue between characters and less time spent within only one character monologue and mind. One sided conversation, when they are too long, the concentration and interest fades and falls. At least, that was my experience and for this reason I ended up skipping pages. More conversation and interactions. Also, the book is listed as a standalone. However, it does incorporate other characters from other books. If you haven't read them, it might get confusing, or at least, that is what happened to me. Overall, I really enjoyed it and definitely reading the other books in the series.
I have been a fan of this author for some time but this book, for me, was disappointing and I hate that because I am a fan and I see so many 5 star reads but it wasn’t a 5 star read for me. First, there are too many proof errors that needed fixing and weren’t. I did read Him and Mine. I found Him was the strongest of the 3, then Mine but Dark needed more. This story is about Leo and Julia. Leo is a cousin in the Citrione family. I think a few things bothered me and then the proof errors so in the end the read was spoiled for me. One thing that really irked me. Miracles happen, I get that but it isn’t a secret that pregnancy happens during ovulation which happens 14 days after the first day of a woman’s monthly’s so why did the author say that Julia got pregnant from having sex with Leo 2 days before her period!? Add that with the few instances where the story line was just too unbelievable to ring true, and the proof errors and I was thoroughly irritated. I just expected more from a seasoned author.
This one starts off a bit unrealistically for me. Sex within 10 minutes with a stranger under your authority. Well, I guess the point is that the Julia is under Leo’s authority, and the lust is mutual. The problem is that I have a hard time thinking that an educated, independently woman forfeits her agency and self-preservation instincts so easily. Still, things pick up. I forgive the foolishness and get caught up in their interactions. They are adorable as a trio. It drives much of my interest in the story, as well as the ensuing action sequences that relate to Leo’s brothers idiocy. Despite that fact, when Julia doubles down on her misguided impulses by not immediately telling Leo that he is Roman’s father, it underscores my dislike for her. She redeems some of that with her reaction to her son being in danger. Beast-mode mommy is definitely something to which I can relate and that I respect.

would have been better if the didn’t make dumb choices
My whole reason for downloading this book was to have an audiobook that could keep me up for a long drive, and well, it did do that. Granted I mostly was kept awake by the the consistently bad choices the characters would make, and my yelling at my car speakers, but hey, I didn’t fall asleep on the road, so a wins a win. It seemed well written, and the plot had so much potential, but I feel like if either character had used even a pinch of common sense, it could have been so much better. - signed someone who knows that if you have been told by your child’s father you and your kid are in danger, you do not approach the scary man in the black SUV blocking you, and instead get in your car and call someone to help. Also, communication between 2 people is necessary and if both main chars could figure out how to talk to each other that could be super beneficial.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book an awesome read loved it Dr. Julia Connors is a court appointed psychologist and her boss has a grudge since graduate school and he makes her take the bad of the bad so in walks Loe the most mesmerizing man she has ever met and she make the biggest mistake of her life she had a one night affair with him and then he keeps seeing for a little while then Leo's brother make a big mistake and so Leo has to keep away from her to keep her safe after four years he comes back to keep her safe form the mob and finds out he has a kid we this time he is going to keep her safe and with him for all the time. Wonderful and awesome read loved it so hot. Michelle
A super hot crime family story with all the ingredients you'd expect -the Mob, betrayal, violence and engaging characters...and mustn't forget the sex!
I enjoyed the story of Leo and Julia. Their relationship was realistic and well portrayed.
The violence was not gratuitous and seemed authentic.
Most pleasing was that the main characters changed and developed, they learnt from their mistakes. Leo in particular changed for the better.
The secondary characters were interesting and beyond the stereotypes that are found in many books of this genre.
It was an okay read.... I felt like it was too fast paste for my liking.... But you could still feel the chemistry between Julia and Leo.... The fact they met because he had to do counseling because he just got out of prison, they instantly had feelings for each other.... I felt like that part was not believable, she put her whole career on the line for a guy she just met not even an hour? I just couldn't believe that, but other than that it was good....
The third book in the Dark series with the Citrione men, I love these Mafia crime/romances! I have been a fan since the first book, this one didn't disappoint! Leo and Julia have a great connection! I love the banter the Citrione men have, yet Julia is able to keep up with him which makes it all the better to read! Dark, sexy witty with romance and a great HEA! Loved this one! I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. I voluntarily read an advanced reader's copy of this book
This was an enjoyable read. Leo and Julia meet in her office and it quickly turns personal. They ignite each other almost immediately. He has to leave to keep her safe but he doesn’t realize what he’s leaving behind. Four years pass and he has to come back. Not only is she being threatened but so is the son he didn’t k ow he had. He has thought of her every day and will do anything to protect her. This wraps up in a very nice and enjoyable HEA.
I listened to this on audio and the male voice and the kid voice actually were hilarious. I couldn’t keep a straight face. . If you could picture the kids from jersey shore that is what the mafia members acted like . Very stereotypical with the worst accent . Leo gets out of prison and is sent to a therapist . Julia is that therapist . Within 15 min they have sex. Julia ends up pregnant and Leo is nowhere to be found . It was a little rushed but for a short story it was pretty interesting .

I have to appreciate a Kindle Unlimited with free narration!
This was an entertaining story that kept my attention. I read book one in this series quite a while ago, but not book 2. I came across this one while look for an audio and just dove in before I realized I had read one of the books in this series previously.
The story was good, a little predictable and unbelievable, but definitely entertaining. The nice HEA is a win win for everyone.
I feel like the narration was really well and I feel like there was also a lot of tension between the two main characters but I also feel like he chose to protect her through and through even if it came off the wrong way I feel like doing a lot of innuendos and that Leo suffered a lot of things but was not as broken because of having Roman and his mom and that kind of healed him
I liked this book just as much as I did Vincent's story. I'm glad Julia and Leo was able to work things out. When she told him no more violence he really tried cause he could have did a number on Ted. He was doing good till they killed his baby brother Angelo and kidnapped Julia and Roman, then all bets were off. I'm glad everything turned out alright.💜💜
I enjoyed the series a lot but struggled with this last book. He is a bad guy, she's a good girl, they hook up, she gets pregnant, and he has to leave to protect her. He doesn't tell her that. She gets pregnant, he comes back and she doesn't tell him it's his kid until 75% through the book!!! And he doesn't pressure her for the answer? Glad they got their happily ever after though

Sacrifices for his family and those he cares for May drive him to the edge of everything. Will he make the ultimate sacrifice? What will she do? She’s strong willed and wants her life to even out. But one thing after another happens and now she’s in the thick of it needing to protect her heart as well as those she loves.
There was about 3 times the audio would go back to another point in the book. And at the point it would 'jump' the writing was 'missing a page?' Possibly. The next page wouldn't make sense. I'm not sure what the issue was. A missing page or an audio issue.
Out of the three books this is the family story I appreciated the most. It had the most realistic FMC, the mafia spiderweb between all the families was a little hard to follow because I read a few books between books 1&2&3…. But that’s a ME problem not a writing problem. I think. Good novella to break up the mood
His therapist, during their initial meeting, engages in a sexual act with him. He persuades her to go out with him, but his brother's trouble prevents him from meeting her. He returns years later to discover he has a son.
This story covers his brother's continuing trouble and his family's protection. A recommended reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book. I loved this book!!! So hot!!! Leo & Julia kept me on the edge of my seat. Sometimes I forgot who the patient was. Really starting to love these mafia romances. Awesome book!!!
