À procura de um amigo

Rate this book

"I wish I had a dog... It could be a big dog or a little one. It could be any color or breed. Just most of all I'd like a hearing dog."
.
.
I wandered through the kids' section during the Magrudy's Sale and I spotted this. I read all kinds of books and my kid's book collection is as big as my YA and adult's. I read the blurb of this and it caught my heart right away being the Speech-Language Pathologist, ASL-trained, and dog momma that I am.
.
.
Jake is an 11 year old boy who suffered from meningitis when he was younger and this left him with severe hearing loss in both ears.
He wears his hearing aids uses lip reading and ASL to communicate better.
However due to this difficulty, he was often isolated from his peers and "never really had friends".
He had wished and prayed for a hearing dog for the longest time, not only to help him hear, but also to be his friend 💔
His wish finally came true one day and Echo (hearing-related name) entered his life.
Their love and bond for each other was instant.
But one day, Echo goes missing and Jake's world turns upside down.
This is a story of the power of love between owners and pets, of the unknown and unexpected "friends", of endless faith, of perseverance of people with special needs, of being accepted and belonging.
5/5 ⭐ rating and I recommend this to anyone who'd like to shake up their reading and have their hearts wonderfully tugged in all the right places. ❤️

Another wonderful book for children of all ages and for dog enthusiasts, by Megan Rix, the Author of "My Hero Dog" (I book I loved).

This story has double use: children will love all about Echo, but they will also learn about a little boy with hearing disability for whom a hearing dog was trained. The importance of helping dogs in people's lives is well described and illustrated here.

A lovely heartwarming story, with the background of animal assistance dogs, the importance to deaf children in making friends, feeling part of their peer group, and the health benefits, emotional and physical.

Jake suffers, who is deaf, suffers from tinnitus and is socially isolated. His introduction to Echo, his assistance dog changes his life.

Its a roller coaster ride for the reader and for Jake when Echo goes missing. What happens next ..... read on.....

Highly recommended for all readers especially those of us who are interested in animal welfare.
