Dex is the geeky nerd turned hot commodity. Together with his best friends, also high school chess playing geeks, they begin a company that has exploded into a mega business that brings wealth and the power to be one of the “celebrities” of the tabloids. Always the ladies’ man, Dex has a secret, he has been in love with his best friend’s little sister forever and that little secret is about to be let out of the bag. The fireworks it causes makes the Fourth of July look like a few kiddie sparklers!
Ava has always hidden the fact that she has the hots for Dex. Her older and over-protective brother, Leo has yet to find a man worthy of her. And if he found out his best friend and business partner was sniffing around her, the fallout would be disastrous. (Even though, it is none of his business in the long run.)
ROOKIE MOVES by Shelly Alexander hits emotional and sensual temperatures well past the boiling point of water! Shelly Alexander does know how to write, and she did find some humor in the whole situation, as she allowed Dex to tell us his side of this not-so-secret romance!

This was a fun and easy friends to lovers story with a healthy dose of forbidden romance (best friend's little sister). The story revolves around Dexter (Dex) and Ava as they blur the line between friends to something more. Rookie Moves is book 2 in the Checkmate Inc series, but can be read as a standalone, although characters from the previous book appear.
This was a lighthearted and at times hilarious romance. I really enjoyed the story being completely told from Dex's point of view. There was plenty of heat and chemistry between Dex and Ava, and it was fun reading about them losing their different rookie cards. I did find though that both our hero and heroine acted on the more immature side in their attempts to hide/justify their relationship, but I understand why they felt compelled to do so. It just seemed harder to accept since Dex is supposedly a genius (but apparently lacked communication skills) and Ava is supposed to be a no filter, no holds barred kind of woman. Both characters are likeable though, and I loved them as a couple. You definitely root for them to get their happily ever after.
Rookie Moves was an enjoyable and steamy romance. Even though it was clear what direction this one was going to go in, I still found it fun and entertaining. I'm looking forward to reading about Oz in the next book.

Rookie Moves provided an extremely clever premise, an entertaining storyline, and an afternoon of naughty fun. I totally relished the brilliant idea of nerds receiving makeovers. The storyline was amusing, bawdy, sensual, and emotive. Written from the first person POV of Dex, the main character was a sexy playboy that had been a high school nerd, chess champion, and a lonely intellectual genius of a child with cold and distant parents. Dex was one of the three founding members of Checkmate, the company that started off with cologne but expanded into a networked enterprise that polished the rough edges and assisted wealthy geeks with rebranding themselves into buff metro-sexuals. Dex was whip-smart and had a dirty mouth and an even filthier mind packed with X-rated fantasies starring Ava, the younger sister of his business partner/best friend. The f-bombs frequently flew once he learned it was a turn-on for Ava. Dex had been secretly lusting for Ava for over two years but unable to do anything about it as, well, best friend’s sister. Imagine his shock once he realized his fantasies had nothing on Ava’s reality. She was no mental slouch herself and brought out the best in him in every way, and my kindle was smoking!

Wow, I am so disappointed with this book! I read the first one and gave it a glowing review and was looking forward to reading the next book in the series...but this one is just a sex manual. What happened to having a plot along with your sex? You won't find a storyline in this book. I didn't care for Dex. He should have stuck with his "inner nerd" instead of coming off as an arrogant jerk. He was constantly reminding Ava how experienced he was...a more experienced woman would have found that a bit intimidating, let alone someone like Ava who was purported to be a "rookie" in the bedroom, way to build her confidence....I did not find this book the least bit romantic. So sad!

I nerd sono tornati e lo hanno fatto in grande stile. Dex Moore era l’uomo che stavo aspettando da quando ho letto il primo libro e, devo dire, che non mi ha delusa. La coppia Dex e Ava è altamente esplosiva, ogni attimo in loro compagnia sprigiona fuoco e fiamme e non parlo di un fuocherello da campeggio ma di un vero e proprio vulcano pronto ad eruttare in qualsiasi momento.
Ava Foxx è innamorata di Dex da quando era poco più di un’adolescente ma quel testone di suo fratello ha fatto promettere ai suoi amici più cari di proteggerla come se fosse anche la loro sorellina, quindi, Dex le sembra inarrivabile. Ma si sa, quando una donna si mette in testa qualcosa è difficile farla deviare dai suoi propositi, pertanto, la vita di Dex sarà molto più complicata del previsto.
Dex Moore, dopo una vita passata a sfidare a scacchi chiunque voglia cimentarsi, in pantaloni cachi e calzini nei sandali, è diventato un uomo sexy e inavvicinabile. Ha uno scopo e nulla può distoglierlo dal raggiungere i suoi obbiettivi per dimostrare alla sua anaffettiva famiglia che ce l’ha fatta nonostante loro. Ha un solo punto debole: Ava Foxx. Per lei potrebbe anche desistere o quanto meno prendere altre decisioni. Ma ava è intoccabile. Deve vederla solo come una sorellina da proteggere e nulla più. Ma quando quella splendida donna gli chiede di fingersi il suo fidanzato per un week end le cose si complicano e non poco.
Ah, ragazze mie, quando il fuoco si avvicina alla paglia è difficile non far divampare un incendio che può devastare tutto quello che si è costruito, soprattutto quel legame di amicizia che esiste da sempre tra Dex e Leo e a cui Dex tiene più di tutto. E l’amore, quello vero, potrà avere mai una chance se Dex vuole fare il bravo ragazzo a tutti i costi? Scopritelo, ma armatevi di ventilatori, bibite ghiacciate e ventaglio da agitare in modo convulsivo per tutta la lettura, perché tutto il libro è permeato da una sensualità pazzesca che in più di un’occasione mi ha fatto sentire le farfalle nello stomaco.
In effetti ci troviamo davanti a due bei personaggi. Ava è testarda, dolce, sfacciata, vuole Dex e non si arrenderà fino a quando non sarà suo. Per lui è disposta a lottare, a sfidarlo anche in una delle sue amatissime partite a scacchi e non esiterà ad usare metodi alternativi pur di dare scacco matto al protagonista. Dex è sicuramente la parte più razionale della coppia, il suo cercare di fare la cosa giusta a tutti i costi lo rende un personaggio dolce a cui vorresti dare uno scappellotto per fargli vedere al di là del suo naso. Ava per lui è una tentazione che cerca di allontanare il più possibile anche se ogni volta che la vede vacilla un po’ di più. Mi sono proprio divertita a leggere di loro due e, nonostante, questo romanzo sia costruito intorno ad un cliché molto usato, l’autrice ha saputo infordervi la giusta dose di freschezza e sensualità. Si legge in poche ore e non perché è un romanzo breve ma perché, sia la storia che il modo in cui è stata scritta, hanno una marcia in più, una chimica che esce fuori dalle pagine del libro e ti avvolge completamente. Ecco, se proprio devo trovare un difetto al libro direi che anche questa volta ho sentito la mancanza del punto di vista della protagonista, ma l’autrice non sono io, quindi, mi adatto alle sue preferenze.

Inizio ad adorare questa serie, non è nulla di eccezionale, non si tratta di trame particolari ma il connubio nerd e sexy mi rendono assuefatta completamente. Inoltre, particolare non da sottovalutare, i libri sono tutti dal punto di vista maschile e i pensieri lussuriosi di questi super intelligenti milionari occhialuti sono veramente intriganti. Loro sono inaspettatamente gli amanti con la A maiuscola che non hanno nulla da invidiare ai maschi alpha o ai bad boys a cui siamo abituate.
Dex è un playboy di facciata che stravede solo per la sua novellina e Ava è audace e prepotente nel far cadere nella sua rete il miglior amico del fratello che deve decidersi a prendere posizione e conquistarla se veramente la vuole.
Lui ha paura di perdere la sua vera famiglia, gli amici Leo e Oz e commetterà non pochi sbagli e lei non è la ragazza che può aspettare, lo ha fatto per anni ma ora è arrivato il momento di uscire alla luce del sole e Dex riuscirà nel compito di renderla una novellina molto esperta sotto le coperte.
Ritroviamo la passione del protagonista per gli scacchi e lo scacco matto potrebbe diventare molto hot quando di mezzo c’è uno scacchi strip.

recensione "a cura del blog Libri magnetici" by Meghan
Ed eccoci alla storia di Dex e Ava, lui, uno dei tre nerd fondatori della Checkmate, e lei, la sorella di uno dei soci, Leo, protagonista del primo volume di questa serie.
Pure conoscendosi da moltissimi anni, nessuno dei due ha mai fatto un passo verso l’altro, sviluppando un legame di amicizia che in qualche modo li nasconde entrambi.
Tutto cambia quando Ava chiede a Dex di accompagnarla a una rimpatriata di classe, a cui lei partecipa con difficoltà poiché, essendo stata al liceo la classica “secchiona”, era continuamente presa in giro. Quel fine settimana cambierà totalmente le cose fra loro.
«Questo è ciò che amo di Ava. E’ prepotente e audace, ma allo stesso tempo ha la testa sulle spalle e non avanza pretese.

Come per la storia di Leo, anche Dex era un ragazzo senza muscoli, bravissimo giocatore di scacchi e solitario; la sua scelta è stata quella di fondare la società con i suoi due amici anche per colmare il rifiuto da parte dei suoi genitori della sua particolare scelta lavorativa.
In un primo momento, allontana Ava, sia perché ha letteralmente paura della reazione di Leo, sia perché fatica a capire il sentimento che prova.
Questo volume, non proprio la classica storia della sorella innamorata del migliore amico del fratello, alterna momenti particolari a passaggi quasi inseriti a caso, che fanno passare i protagonisti da un estremo all’altro e lasciano il lettore un pò spiazzato (è probabilmente il tratto caratteristico di quest’autrice).
Infatti in alcuni capitoli della storia, non riusciamo a capire né a condividere il continuo allontanare Ava da parte di Dex: probabilmente il POV unico d lui appesantisce la narrazione, unito a continui monologhi divisi tra la sua attrazione fisica per lei e la paura di Leo.
«L’ho allontanata invece di lottare per averla. Le ho detto che era un errore. Un fallimento. Quelle parole mi pugnalano il cuore come un punteruolo arrugginito. Devo trovarla, chiederle di darmi un’altra possibilità e convincere Leo che sono l’unico ragazzo adatto per sua sorella.»
Una lettura consigliata e da leggere “senza impegno”.

Ed eccoci alla storia di Dex e Ava, lui, uno dei tre nerd fondatori della Checkmate, e lei, la sorella di uno dei soci, Leo, protagonista del primo volume di questa serie.
Pure conoscendosi da moltissimi anni, nessuno dei due ha mai fatto un passo verso l’altro, sviluppando un legame di amicizia che in qualche modo li nasconde entrambi.
Tutto cambia quando Ava chiede a Dex di accompagnarla a una rimpatriata di classe, a cui lei partecipa con difficoltà poiché, essendo stata al liceo la classica “secchiona”, era continuamente presa in giro. Quel fine settimana cambierà totalmente le cose fra loro.
«Questo è ciò che amo di Ava. E’ prepotente e audace, ma allo stesso tempo ha la testa sulle spalle e non avanza pretese.

I read my first ever Shelly Alexander book at the end of last year. I loved it and wanted more so when the opportunity came along to read and review Rookie Moves, I jumped right in.
Rookie Moves is a friends-to-lovers romance with the added hurdle of a protective brother in the way of anything serious. Dexter (Dex) Moore and his three best friends, Leo Foxx, and Oz Strong join forces and start Checkmate, Inc. ( I love the name of the company that pays homage to the three young geeks.) Ava Foxx is Leo’s little sister. Ava is interested in more than friendship with Dex and Dex wants more with Ava but, for different reasons, they both know that can’t happen.
Ms. Alexander knows how to tell a story with characters that steal the hearts of the readers. Rookie Moves is told from Dexter’s point of view. Seeing everything unfold through his eyes allows the reader to know Dex intimately. Dex has the outward appearance of being a playboy. He is photographed often with different women. The problem is that he wants his best friend’s sister. He also knows that Leo won’t approve. In addition, Leo trusts Dex to keep an eye on Ava and not let anyone get too close. It is easy to feel how he is torn between loyalty to his friend and the desire of his heart.
Ava Foxx is another loveable character. Ava tries the friendship path to get Dex to notice her and now she is all-in working on getting what she wants. There are secrets now that will become known to all and trouble will be in their future.
In general, the story moves at a steady pace. There is a place in the middle that the story slows down for me a little. It doesn’t last long but it takes away a little from my concentration. That said, Rookie Moves is an enjoyable, light, romance with good characters and a solid storyline. While the book is part of a series, I never felt lost or wondering what I missed—Rookie Moves works as a standalone. Of course, now that I know the first book is about Leo I want to learn more about his backstory. I have this need to slap him upside the head.
I recommend Rookie Moves to anyone who enjoys a friends-to-lovers romance. The characters are a little unusual in that they are born nerds and relationships are challenges. It is a fun, lighthearted story with a lot of appeal. Another win for Shelly Alexander.

Rookie Moves is the second book in the Checkmate, Inc. series but it can be read as a standalone. I haven't read the first book since I didn't know it existed but I want to read it now. I have read a few of Shelly's book and I loved them but this one is so far my favorite!
Dexter is a smart guy. He really is when it comes to the game of chess, business, and playing the part of a jet-setting playboy. But when it comes to Ava, he is at a loss. She is one of his closet friends and she also happens to be one of his business partner's little sister. Along with his other friend and business partner Oz, they are his only family. The problem? He wants her something fierce. He stopped looking at her as the little sister of Leo two years ago. He saw her now as a bold, beautiful, and sinful woman. He has resisted her for those two years even when he sees her daily for their coffee dates. He is pretty impressed with himself. That was until she needed a date for a weekend upstate for a homecoming reunion. He was fucked especially since she has been looking at him differently since the night he said yes.
Ava is tired of Dexter looking at her like she was a kid sister. This is her chance to show that she is a grown woman with needs that she thinks he can only fulfill. She knows that in a few weeks he has to go overseas for a couple of years to expand the Checkmate, Inc. company. She just wants her chance and then they can decide what is next, if anything. She can't let him go to another country to be the playboy the gossip magazines talk about without showing him her other side. Will this weekend upstate be the beginning of something new or the end of an epic friendship?
My name is Sandra and I am in love with a sexy as fuck geek. Seriously...Dexter is geeky hot in his black-rimmed glasses and tailor-made suits. I would even learn to play chess for this man. He is a dirty-talking man that knows exactly what he is doing between the sheets. Like he said, he is a smart man and smart men are curious. They make for great lovers. And he is so funny! I also loved Ava. She is bold, sexy, and smart. She isn't afraid to tell him exactly what she wants. Once those flood gates were open, she was all in. Together, their connection is pure hotness. Their friendship is beautiful. But what about her brother? Will he do what he promises when a man gets near his sister? Even if it's one of his best friends?
Overall...I loved it all. It's was the perfect mix of sexiness and fun. There is also more to the story then just sex. It's about friendship, love, family, and discovering what is in important.

Beh, Scacco matto, il secondo capitolo della serie Checkmate Inc., ha come protagonisti proprio loro due.
Dexter “Dex” Moore è il creatore del ramo di vendita al dettaglio nonché il promotore della nascente espansione dell’azienda in Europa e a Dubai.
Ma, se dal punto di vista professionale, Dex è conosciuto come un uomo determinato, caparbio e propositivo, da quello privato è stato presto etichettato come il Playboy del jet-set.
Impegnarsi in una relazione seria, mentre corre in giro per il mondo a supervisionare l’espansione, potrebbe mettere a repentaglio gli affari e questo, non rientra tra i rischi che è disposto a correre, e poi, l’unica donna che vorrebbe davvero studiare, capire e far gridare di estasi è l’unica che non può avere.
Tutti i miei sogni stanno per diventare realtà. Questa espansione renderà la Checkmate il successo mondiale che ho sempre sognato. Sono passati otto anni da quando Ava era solo una ragazzina piatta come una tavola e Dex aveva promesso di proteggerla dagli idioti ma, oggi, di quella “novellina”, non c’è più traccia. È stata sostituita da una bella donna capace di far girare la testa a qualsiasi uomo.
Proprio questo fa impazzire di gelosia Dex, sapere che molti uomini fantastichino sul suo corpo e la spoglino con gli occhi quando, vorrebbe essere lui, l’unico e il solo a farlo.
Ma Ava è off-limits, non solo a causa di una promessa fatta all’iperprotettivo fratello di questa e per non mettere a repentaglio l’amicizia con quest’ultimo ma soprattutto, per non rischiare di compromettere la sua posizione all’interno della società che li vede soci.
Qualcosa però sta per cambiare, complice il compleanno di Ava e una proposta che Dex non può assolutamente rifiutare, si trovano a dover condividere un week end lontano da Manhattan, ma soprattutto, lontano dall’occhio vigile di Leo.
«Qual è il favore, novellina?» «Prometti che dirai di sì?» «Qualsiasi cosa. Basta che tu me lo chieda.» Prendo il bicchiere e bevo un sorso di whisky. Mi brucia la gola mentre scivola giù a scaldarmi le viscere.
«Ho bisogno di un ragazzo per il prossimo fine settimana, e deve essere straordinario.»
Cosa potrà mai succedere in soli due giorni?
E se i sentimenti di Dex fossero corrisposti e una dichiarazione piccante di Ava scaldasse “l’animo” di Dex?
Quanto potrà mai rimanere segreta una relazione tra i due una volta tornati sotto il radar di Leo?
Per scoprirlo, l’unica cosa che vi resta da fare è lasciarvi catturare dalle pagine di Scacco matto.
Non avete idea di quanto mi stia piacendo questa serie, non perché tratti dei temi particolari o dialoghi profondi, no quello che mi sta piacendo particolarmente, è la leggerezza, la sensualità e l’allegria che, Shelly Alexander, è stata capace di infondere dentro di me dopo letture particolarmente impegnative.
Potrei far rientrare Scacco matto in quella particolare categoria, che mi piace definire, rappresentata dai confort books o semplicemente libri cuscinetto, quel tipo di letture di cui, ogni tanto, si ha bisogno per staccare la spina o semplicemente, per superare uno di quegli insidiosi blocchi di lettura che, in noi bookblogger, significano sconvolgere una scaletta ben progettata e difficilmente risanabile.
Scacco matto, come la gran parte dei Romance narrati interamente dal POV maschile, ci racconta i testosteronici, peccaminosi e irriverenti pensieri di un uomo che, nonostante, da sempre, provi dei sentimenti per una donna, vive con la costante paura di perdere quello che ha costruito fino a oggi. Non parlo dell’azienda di cui è socio, o meglio, non solo di quella, ma soprattutto di vedersi rifiutato dall’unica famiglia che lo stimi e che, farebbe l’impossibile per lui, cioè quella composta dai suoi due migliori amici e soci: Leo e Oz.
Ho s*****o Ava. Era così dannatamente giusto e al contempo sbagliato. Dopo due lunghi anni di autocontrollo, ho cambiato la nostra amicizia in una notte. Ho anche tradito un buon amico che potrebbe mandare al diavolo la nostra partnership commerciale. Non riesco nemmeno a immaginare le implicazioni che questo avrebbe sul futuro della Checkmate.
Deludere Leo se la batte con i sentimenti che prova per Ava, la sua audace e coraggiosa “novellina” che, dopo anni dall’inizio della sua cotta, ha finalmente la giusta occasione per dimostrare, non solo i suoi sentimenti, ma anche che, non è più quell’adolescente di cui si è sempre preso cura.
«Fa’ attenzione a quello che chiedi, novellina.»
Ovviamente sarà costretto a commettere non pochi sbagli, che probabilmente rischieranno di fargli perdere capra e cavoli in un solo istante. Chissà se riuscirà a ottenere entrambi o se sarà costretto a delle rinunce.
Amicizia o Amore?
Il suo migliore amico fraterno e socio o la donna di cui è innamorato da sempre?
Leo o Ava?
E Oz da che parte starà?
Ma soprattutto, quando avremo l’occasione di leggere la sua storia?
La risposta è sempre la stessa, per scoprirlo, non resta altro da fare che leggere Scacco matto.

Rookie Moves takes friends-to-lovers, mixes it with best friend's sister, then tosses in an extremely healthy dose of naughtiness. Let's also not leave out that said best friend is also super overprotective, which of course leads to the expected blowup once everything is found out. It's a familiar recipe, but is still well done by this author and was a very entertaining read.
Ava is sweet and sassy, and strong willed to boot. She's finally going after what she wants, and while Dex tries to "do the right thing" (someone please save us from these noble guys!), he's been fighting this temptation for far too long. The two of them together will either overheat your e-reader or if you're reading the paperback it may very well burst into flames. Chemistry? They have it in spades.
While the story does follow a predictable route, it is the writing that makes it stand out, and I thought it flowed very well. I read it in one evening, and even though it was a quick read for me, it never felt rushed. Ava and Dex already have a long history of close friendship, the events in this story just give them that nudge over the edge.

I liked this one and I'm a sucker for best friend's little sister stories. I liked the characters. The only thing is a had a tough time fitting the dirty talker Dex with the nerd side of him. I guess it was more to do with the terms he used to me they just didn't gel with his character. The only other thing that I wish was that had dual points of view, but that's just a personal reader preference. I still enjoyed the book being told by the hero's point of view. I must say it was a nice change. What really worked for me was that Dex and Ava have history and a friendship so it that alone brings a lot of chemistry to the book. Dex is definitely in a hard spot trying to keep his feelings for Ava under wraps in order to keep his friendship with Ava's brother intact and the new adventure for work. A wrench is thrown into his plans when a weekend a lone with Ava is going to test his restraint

Dexter Moore è appena tornato da un viaggio d’affari quando correre per partecipare al venticinquesimo compleanno di Ava lo metterà davanti a un’offerta imperdibile. Lei è il suo sogno proibito perché è la sorellina intoccabile del suo socio e amico Leo che è iperprotettivo nei suoi riguardi. Ava è una piccola nerd, è lei che ha creato il sito web della loro società quando era ancora agli esordi prima di costituire la propria azienda di web design. Ritrovarsi ogni mattina a Manhattan a sorseggiare un caffè insieme è una dolce abitudine alla quale nessuno dei due riesce a sottrarsi perché corrisponde a un preliminare infinito che sta per trasformarsi nella più rovente delle passioni.

Inizio ad adorare questa serie, non è nulla di eccezionale, non si tratta di trame particolari ma il connubio nerd e sexy mi rendono assuefatta completamente. Inoltre, particolare non da sottovalutare, i libri sono tutti dal punto di vista maschile e i pensieri lussuriosi di questi super intelligenti milionari occhialuti sono veramente intriganti. Loro sono inaspettatamente gli amanti con la A maiuscola che non hanno nulla da invidiare ai maschi alpha o ai bad boys a cui siamo abituate.
Dex è un playboy di facciata che stravede solo per la sua novellina e Ava è audace e prepotente nel far cadere nella sua rete il miglior amico del fratello che deve decidersi a prendere posizione e conquistarla se veramente la vuole.
Lui ha paura di perdere la sua vera famiglia, gli amici Leo e Oz e commetterà non pochi sbagli e lei non è la ragazza che può aspettare, lo ha fatto per anni ma ora è arrivato il momento di uscire alla luce del sole e Dex riuscirà nel compito di renderla una novellina molto esperta sotto le coperte.
Ritroviamo la passione del protagonista per gli scacchi e lo scacco matto potrebbe diventare molto hot quando di mezzo c’è uno scacchi strip.
‘Le sue braccia si allacciano intorno al mio collo e posa un bacio bollente sulla mia bocca. È veloce, feroce e frenetico come se stesse trattenendo una marea di desiderio, le onde di lussuria che si infrangono, fluiscono e si schiantano su di noi.’
Ora aspetto Ethan, il magnate delle palestre che si è arricchito grazie alla Checkmate e ai suoi clienti da rendere sexy e in forma. Non crede più nell’amore ma potrebbe capitolare per un’acerrima nemica in affari.
Lunga vita a questa serie, per fortuna ci sono ancora altri due libri, ogni tanto fa bene immergersi in queste atmosfere leggere e molto peccaminose.

Ritrovarsi ogni mattina a Manhattan a sorseggiare un caffè insieme è una dolce abitudine alla quale nessuno dei due riesce a sottrarsi perché corrisponde a un preliminare infinito che sta per trasformarsi nella più rovente delle passioni.

Inizio ad adorare questa serie, non è nulla di eccezionale, non si tratta di trame particolari ma il connubio nerd e sexy mi rendono assuefatta completamente. Inoltre, particolare non da sottovalutare, i libri sono tutti dal punto di vista maschile e i pensieri lussuriosi di questi super intelligenti milionari occhialuti sono veramente intriganti. Loro sono inaspettatamente gli amanti con la A maiuscola che non hanno nulla da invidiare ai maschi alpha o ai bad boys a cui siamo abituate.
Dex è un playboy di facciata che stravede solo per la sua novellina e Ava è audace e prepotente nel far cadere nella sua rete il miglior amico del fratello che deve decidersi a prendere posizione e conquistarla se veramente la vuole.
Lui ha paura di perdere la sua vera famiglia, gli amici Leo e Oz e commetterà non pochi sbagli e lei non è la ragazza che può aspettare, lo ha fatto per anni ma ora è arrivato il momento di uscire alla luce del sole e Dex riuscirà nel compito di renderla una novellina molto esperta sotto le coperte.
Ritroviamo la passione del protagonista per gli scacchi e lo scacco matto potrebbe diventare molto hot quando di mezzo c’è uno scacchi strip.

Ora aspetto Ethan, il magnate delle palestre che si è arricchito grazie alla Checkmate e ai suoi clienti da rendere sexy e in forma. Non crede più nell’amore ma potrebbe capitolare per un’acerrima nemica in affari.
Lunga vita a questa serie, per fortuna ci sono ancora altri due libri, ogni tanto fa bene immergersi in queste atmosfere leggere e molto peccaminose.

Dopo aver conosciuto da vicino Chloe e Leo, ecco che l'autrice ci catapulta nel mondo di Dex e Ava. Lui, è uno dei migliori amici di Leo, nonché socio in affari; lei è semplicemente la sorellina del grande Leo Foxx.
I due sono amici, ma entrambi provano un sentimento che cercano di nascondere e rimanere semplicemente amici. Ava è stracotta di Dex praticamente da sempre, e il ragazzone ha visto la bambina trasformarsi in una donna davvero sexy al punto che i pensieri non sono molto casti.
La passione sfocia nei due, quando Ava gli chiede di accompagnarla ad una rimpatriata del liceo. Dex si mostra geloso, a tratti possessivo anche se sa di non averne alcun diritto. Sa che dovrà partire per espandere la società in Europa ed allo stesso tempo deve fermarsi per non tradire la fiducia che Leo ripone in lui.
Tutto ciò basterà? Non credo proprio..

Concludo col dirvi che, se il primo libro mi era piaciuto un sacco, con il secondo l'autrice si è superata davvero. Sono personaggi frizzanti, per niente noiosi, succede sempre qualcosa e si vede la mentalità nerd che riemerge nonostante un corpo favoloso. La storia è interamente vista secondo l'ottica di Dex e i suoi ragionamenti contorti. La passione e le scene hot, ci sono e sono molte.. ma è normale visto che Dex sarà la prima volta di Ava.

This is book two of the Checkmate Inc. series by Shelly Alexander. Rookie Moves is the story about Dex who is one of the owners of Checkmate Inc. and Ava who is the little sister of Leo who is one of Dex's best Friends and part owner of Checkmate Inc. also. Dex has been in Ava's life since she was a teenager and started developing feelings for her as she matured but because she was his best friend's sister he would never act on it. Ava also has strong feelings for Dex and is sick and tired of waiting for him to see her as a woman and to make his move so she takes it upon herself to set the ball in motion. When Ava talks Dex into going to her High school reunion with her she thinks this is the perfect time to make Dex fall for her. You have to read it to see what happens! This can be read as a standalone! This book has humor, and ups and downs and I loved it! Shelly did it again what an awesome book!

Rookie Moves is a little bit friends-to-lovers, a little bit fake romance, a little bit best friend's sister, and a whole lot of hotness. This second Checkmate, Inc story has a bit more angst than the first in the series, most of it coming from Dex's worry about how Leo will react when he finds out about Dex and Ava. While the build-up on that was way more than the reality, getting there made for an entertaining story. Even though Leo's reaction wasn't what I expected, I realized that it was perfect for this family, and make no mistake, this is a family. Dex and Ava are so good together, from their flirty banter as friends to the scorching hot, can't keep their hands off each other steam. Dex is the arrogant playboy by reputation, and it's always fun to see them find that one woman to bring them to their knees. Ava gives as good as she gets and then some. The story is steamy, but there's also a sweetness there. All in all, another engaging romance in the series.

This relationship was hinted at in Book 1 and I was excited to read about it. It didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The best friend’s little sister romance is such a common theme that I feel like it needs to be really well written and while this book had its moments, it definitely didn’t do all it could.
I feel like there was such a long lead up to them getting involved with each other and hyping up Leo’s reaction and it just fell flat for me. The whole relationship and Leo finding out was SO rushed and anticlimactic.

Questa serie non è di sicuro una lettura impegnata, ma è divertente, scorrevole, i personaggi sono carini e si fanno amare. La trama non è niente di che, i problemi che emergono si risolvono da soli in modo abbastanza banale (da questo punto di vista meglio il primo), ma il libro si legge volentieri e raggiunge lo scopo di farti passare qualche ora a sognare.

This was much more enjoyable than the first part of the series. Both Dex and Ava are much more likable than Leo and Chloe. There was also a believable love story between them.

This was my first by this author and can I say that I can't wait for the next??? Not only was this book unexpectedly sexy and addictive but it was also very entertaining to read. Never thought that a nerd could be so HOT but Shelly managed to give us some sexy nerds with the Checkmate Inc. men. I was hooked from the very beginning and loving the ride that these two characters take us on.
Needless to say that since Shelly is a new to me author I haven't had the privilege to read the first in this series but I can say that I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. I really, really can't wait to get my hands on the next in this series and hopefully go back and read the first in this series as well.
Shelly is a very talented writer and if you are a fan of a romance with a great story behind it all then this is the author to read. I highly recommend this book.
