A few lifetimes ago I worked in my parent's beach kiosk. I also worked in Promotions and after this, I managed medical clinics.
At the moment I’m living my dream as an author in the Sunshine State in Australia. I write on Health, Faith and Book Publishing.
The perfect book on self publishing. It contains all you need. Background information to build your foundational understanding, actionable tips and step by step guides, and strategies that will foster your marketing. It is full of research, case studies and interviews. It shows the way the author launches her books and she also shares her 10-steps marketing plan. It is a book packed full of valuable information that might take you years to collect on your own. Thanks, this book is a great help on my journey!
Mimi delivered on the title, this is the holy grail
I've been reading ebooks on self-publishing for the past two months, getting ready to publish a parenting book this year, and this book has 4X the resources of the others. Mimi shares a TON of resources and shares things other self-publishing books don't (like how to find and post gifs). Extremely helpful book that I know I'll be referring to a lot.
It’s no secret that Amazon is the goliath of the book-publishing world. They control about 70% of the market, and for self-publishers, even more. Like Google, they can change their rules arbitrarily and flip the script for marketers, publicists, promoters, and even authors overnight, and there’s not a whole lot you can do about it. The last thing you want to do is piss off the giant, so it’s up to us (the writers) to stay on top of the rules and regulations of Amazon’s ToS policies.
Amazon is the source of many cottage industries coming into existence (such as newsletter promotion companies like BookBub), but that can all change on a whim. It seems that for every new promotion site that sprouts into existence, another three are snuffed out and forced to close shop—either for ToS violations, a lack of clients, or their stream-of-income strategies become obsolete and no longer viable.
I mention all this for one reason: relevance. Like many authors, I’m keen on reading the newest ebooks about book promotions, marketing and launch strategies, and tips and tricks in the publishing world. Each one seems to offer me new things to think about.
But not all ebooks about ebooks are created equal. First, you have to take into account when it was written. Is an ebook about publishing in 2012 going to be as relevant as something written within the last year? Probably not. That doesn’t mean the 2012 book is completely useless, but things change over time, and in the case of Amazon, those changes come fast and harsh.
That brings me to Mimi Emmanuel’s ebook, The Holy Grail of Book Launching. It was written and published in late-2016, so, at the time of writing this (Feb. 2017), it’s very relevant for today’s market.
First off, let me start by saying that the Holy Grail is one of the longer, most information-packed books about indie publishing that I have read. Its size can be a little daunting, but Mimi does a great job of lessening the overwhelm factor by splitting the book into three parts: Volume One lists the skeleton of the book—namely, the 10 essential steps that Mimi takes to launch her own books. Keep in mind that she’s a bestselling author in her own right, so it’s smart to heed her words. Volume Two dives into the nitty-gritty aspect of indie publishing. If Volume One is the skeleton of the process, Volume Two is the muscle and sinew that helps move everything. This is the longest part of the book, and goes into great detail about the former 10 steps, one-by-one. Volume Three is a case study section of friends and colleagues of Mimi’s who describe their own tips and tricks and launch strategies. It tells of different people’s successes—such as Chandler Bolt, Michael Hyatt, and Jenny Wagner—and how they got there. This is one of my favorite sections, because it adds information, while also showcasing Mimi’s wide reach of friends. It definitely validates Mimi (and her book) as a tried-and-true juggernaut of the indie publishing landscape.
The Holy Grail of Book Launching is chock-full of links and features that redirect to Mimi’s website for additional downloadable content. Some of my favorite additional perks are the “Step-by-Step Marketing Plan,” and “Promos I Love,” which are basically two 30-day calendars that describe Mimi’s exact approach to launching, from 30 days out, to launch day. Having these two calendars side-by-side, taped to your wall, is a good way of staying grounded and focused on your launch.
Another one of my favorite bits of downloadable content is the “200 Facebook Groups for Publishing Your Book,” and “100 Top Promo Sites by Alexa Rank.” These were put together by her Virtual Assistant and friend, respectively, but they are a greatly added benefit. These four things alone might be worth the price of admission, but the Holy Grail doesn’t stop there.
Mimi’s book shows you how to grow a support group or “street team,” who will help you in your launch from the background. She has a “Social Media Checklist” for you to use, in order to help grow your readership.
At the end of the day, Mimi Emmanuel’s book is all about focusing on your story (see: “Your Story is Your Legacy”) while helping you with the ingredients necessary for a successful ebook launch. Granted, there are quite a few typos and awkward phrases. It can be a little bit of a pain to have to download and unzip extra content from a third-party site (then again, she’s just practicing what she preaches—sending you to her site, getting more readers). And the book can be a bit overwhelming.
But with all that being said, Mimi’s launch strategy is tried-and-tested, it’s relevant for today’s rapidly changing ebook market, and it’s a great read. It’s also very hopeful and encouraging (while some other ebooks about publishing have a doom and gloom ambiance, this one does not). In her own personal story, Mimi seems to have been through hell and back, so for her to offer so much sage advice, and with such an optimistic attitude, is a great thing to see.
I rate The Holy Grail of Book Launching 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Have you read Mimi’s book? What did you like/didn’t like about it? What are your favorite ebooks about indie publishing?
The writer gives a chock full of resources at every turn of the book. Its not theory based, its experiential advice. With 3 volumes, its like your own personal library on the topic of launching!
Author Mimi Emmanuel is like your best friend and I can picture her giving me a pep talk about book launching. For many, this is a nail biting time and she answers many questions. I found pages 41-46 about book boosts sites was the most helpful. Thank you for sharing Mimi. I was getting worried at first that this would be simply a book for marketing herself, but she finally does share her valuable information.
This book is like a one-stop-shop for all your publishing and launching needs. The author is clear on all the tips given. You can truly feel that she wants you to succeed. This book is not to be missed. Excellent source
The Holy Grail of Book Launching is a massive resource of wealthy information for launching your book to bestseller status. If there is a book out there you need to launch YOUR book the right way, this is it. The HGoBL contains loads of valuable resources spread out over three volumes that includes:
In the info graphics of launching and Social Media. Mimi walks us through the steps she uses to set her book up for success from the beginning. She crates a landing page for her book, Tweets it out, posts on FB, and puts it up on her website for readers/authors to check out. Building buzz in this initial stage is essential.
VOLUME 1: The first part of the book is volume 1 and contains everything Mimi uses to promote and share the content of her book before it is launched. Mimi shares her 10-step marketing plan, where to get a free landing page at Booklaunchio, and to make your own info graphics at Canva outlines here step-by-step plan for launching the book and the promo sites she uses for this that include the best promo sites for getting the word out there and attracting buyers. There are links and resources here that the author use sth promote her books to a massive audience. She has done all the work by providing the links straight up so authors don’t have to waste time scrolling through websites or “guessing” what needs to be done next. I also love the cheat sheet she has provided as well as other amazing resources such as a list of the 200 Free FB groups and a list of promo sites to use according to the Alexa ranking. This makes using the material possible during the launch.
VOLUME 2: Volume 2 of the HGoBL takes authors into more great material with the 5 steps to a Successful launch. In this section Mimi covers the topics vital to telling your story as an author. 1. VOLUME 3: THE EXTRA AWESOME SAUCE
Volume 3 is fantastic. But as Mimi states from the beginning, this chapter is not essential for a successful launch and only needs to be read if you want to make money from a bestselling book. In volume 3 she covers the products and services that one can offer in order to upsell a product at the end of the book or lead the reader into a series of automated emails after they have signed up via a lead magnet. Yes, this chapter gets heavy so unless you want to take your book to the next level, it may not be necessary.
There are some great resources listed in this section, beginning with an introduction to Kindle Scout. I didn’t know about this fantastic platform and it looks like it could be worth a try. Also strategies [Via Michael Hyatt’s blog] on how to launch a bestselling book. She also includes several interviews with best-selling authorpreneurs that are doing things right in the publishing world. Again, Volume 3 is packed solid with enough actionable content that you can get to work and start making your book and brand into a real business.
So what is the real deal with “The Holy Grail of Book Launching?" It’s a solid read with no fluff and just great stuff. You will get your book off and running, published, promote the heck out of it and with all the tips, strategies, links and a pile of resources at your disposal in this book, you can’t go wrong. Mimi knows how to support authors, and she is a maser when it comes to the publishing business. A DEFINITE must-have if you are getting ready to launch your next book!
This book is so full of meat that I will be digesting it for a long time. I have made so many notes and written down so many ideas to put in place! Mimi has loaded this book with great information for the novice to the advanced book marketer. Anyone putting a book out needs to do themselves a favor and read this book with notepad beside them.
Since I'm in the process of writing my first book I need to learn all I can about the dreaded book launch and marketing phase. There is an overwhelming amount of bits and pieces of information on the internet about how to do that. But nobody seems to really break it down into an understandable summary. The information that I need is: do this, then do this, then do that. Mimi does provide that info, but goes on to explain that I have many other options to choose from. She explains what the options are - and the pros and cons of each. It's still up to you to make that decision. I particularly liked Book #3 where she provides stories from some successful authors and how they did their book launch. I also appreciated discovering how many books one needs to sell to make a decent income and how to keep the revenue stream flowing. This is a very extensive manual on the art of book launching and the aftermath of book marketing. If you are looking for someone to pat you on the back and say "good job", then this is not the book for you. This book is honest about the grueling work that is involved in getting your book into the marketplace. If you want to make money as an author roll up your shirt sleeves and go to work. Plan to be busy for a long time. This book has a number of graphs and links that are difficult to view on a Kindle Paperwhite or any black and white reader. It is best viewed on a computer or a reader that can view graphics. Possibly Kindle Fire or an Ipad.
The author has done an amazing job laying down all the nuts and bolts of Book Publishing for Indie Authors. This book has the unparalleled potential to save both time and money while generating consistent sales to support writing as a serious business. I offer my Best Wishes and Continued Success to Mimi with a Huge Round of Applause!
I just started to write my first book ever and like Mimi Emmanuel told me in the first part of the book I started with Volume Two and it is a great help. There are so many tips and I can work through it step by step. Very helpful.
Being a newbie to the world of book publishing, The Holy Grail of Book Launching is exactly that—a point-by-point, overflowing resource of essential tips, how-to instructions, calendars, links, templates and every tool needed for navigating the launching process of a self-published book.
I am in awe of the details, the step-by-step organization and wealth of information that the author has collected, organized and shared from her experiences as well as case studies and interviews with fellow authors. Planning for my upcoming book launch has just become a much less apprehensive prospect. I was so appreciative of Emmanuel's first publication on self-publishing yet find The Holy Grail takes the independent author on a totally new experience through the maze that is needed to broadcast their book.
I would definitely recommend The Holy Grail of Book Launching to anyone attempting to self-publish a book. Emmanuel has succeeded in producing the "one-stop" publishing guide needed to handle Amazon, Kindle, social media, promos, and advertising while still hanging onto one's sanity.

I am writing my very own book at this moment and found this wonderful book that came to me on exactly the right moment. So what are you waiting for? This book is the first important step to fulfill your own dreams, so do not let it pass
The Holy Grail of Book Launching was a book that I really was intrigued by. There are so many different working parts to a book launch, that even after my second launch I am still learning and improving.
Mimi Emmanuel approaches the topic with positivity and a friendliness in her writing that makes the whole thing approachable and not daunting. The book covers writing all the way up to publishing and lots in between. It was easy for me to take notes while reading and utilize a few ideas as I went through. The social media calendar was very helpful, as was the advice from other authors about what worked for them.
I highly recommend this book to guide anyone to reach their goal of publication.
If you've worked for months to create a good, useful book, then launched it to find that just weeks later it was drifting off to ratings and sales oblivion, this is the book to pull you back from the brink. It's exactly what happened to my Big Idea book earlier this year - and, truthfully, the fate of most books that don't get enough of the right marketing, at the right time. No matter how well thought-out, well-written, how useful to their targeted readers, the truth is books don't sell themselves. You, the indie self-publishing author, have a lot more work to do beyond writing a good book. Mimi tells you what that work is and how to get it done. Holy Grail...you might think (as I did when I saw the title)...wasn't that a piece of the wooden cross, or a scrap of garment fabric...or the route to the New World...? And it's huge - 3 volumes in one - that's a lot to read. So glad I put this petty objection aside and got on with accepting the help Mimi is giving. As she says, it isn't easy to get in front of all those readers you worked so hard to help in your book. What she has produced is the Indie Author's Desk Reference to Marketing and Success as a Published Author - every tool you as indie authorpreneur need to rescue your book from obscurity before that happens. Even if you are traditionally-published, the more you can do to market your book, the better your sales will be - and the better your next book contract will be. (As an author who is both traditionally- and self- published, I know this to be true.) If you care about your readers, care about your work, and want an increased opportunity to use your words to serve readers and prosper as a writer, you need this book on your mobile or e-reader and in print, on your desk, for quick reference. Buy it, and join me in putting it to good use!
