I received this book as a gift from the writer upon my graduating from seminary. I enjoyed the book. I regret that I did not highlight it and mark it up as I had done with many of my other recent reads, but for me, this was more of a book to enjoy rather than study (I just graduated from seminary, give a little break from studying!).
I appreciated the writer's repetition that these were the principles that his church implemented. One size does not fit all when it comes to how a church functions. "The unique character of any given congregation emerges only as the spirtual gifts and interests of the people are identified and employed" (p. 21, one of the few sentences I actually did highlight). We certainly do not need another model saying, "This is the way it ought to be."
That being said, the principles that the writer discussed are right on. And he gives many practical examples of how a church can grow in each of these areas. I will likely come back to this book again in a few years to use with my church (to which I was recently called as pastor), not so that we will do everything exactly the same, but so that we might consider one good church model as we strive to glorify God in our unique setting.
