Provides parents with the skills they need to survive the teenage years. Shows how to apply common-sense techniques to prevent problems and provide support for growth and development. Helps achieve a good balance between protecting adolescents from serious trouble, while giving them enough freedom to try out new experiences.
Good basic skills training for parents of adolescents. The last three chapters on discipline are great, particularly the procedures for assigning short work chores as consequences for noncompliance. However, I think the book's procedures for setting up point systems might be a little too elaborate for many distressed families. I like Russell Barkley's take on this a little better. Still, great stuff here - a "Top Five" parenting book.
