Review
Early this year, I read the cityscape series by Jessica Hawkins and I absolutely loved it. So, I decided to check the explicitly your series by her and so far, it hasn’t disappointed me yet.

↳Plot. This series reminded me a lot of the One Night series by Jodi Ellen Malapas. They both had the same themes of the main characters wanting one night but eventually realizing they want more than that. However, that series got worse as it continued so I am hoping the same does not happen for this. This felt more like a novella because it was so short, but I still really enjoyed it. I love the way Jessica writes, she keeps you so engage and you don’t want to put the book down. This was definitely an insta-lust book, but I didn’t mind it. In all, I thought the plot was decent, my only complaint is that I wished it was longer.

↳Characters. This book was so short, that I kind of feel indifferent to both main characters. I did not love them, but I also did not have enough information to hate them as well. Lola was a decent heroine; I liked how even though she did sign a contract for Beau to own her, she did not just let him get his way. She was feisty, sassy, and funny so I enjoyed her. Beau was your typical billionaire possessive alpha. I liked his confidence and how forward he was with everyone, he does not play any games. Plus, he was pretty sexy and sweet toward Lola.

↳Romance. I feel like there was not much romance in this book. After all it was more of a physical connection since they only had one night together. Regardless, I still liked the connection Lola and Beau had together. I loved their banter and the way their conversations flowed. Together, they were pretty funny when they were flirting. Plus, their chemistry in the bedroom was HOT. The smut was not the steamiest, but I really liked the way Jessica wrote it. In general, they were just really cute together.

In conclusion, I did enjoy this and I am excited to see where the rest of the series goes!

Lola had a boyfriend.. Strike 1.
Said boyfriend tells Lola to flirt with Beau for business.... Strike 2.
I'm reading about Lola and Johnny's lame sex and then I'm expected to read about Lola and Beau later? Nope.... Strike 3. I'm out.

Title: Night Fever

Jessica Hawkins has a gift. A great one.
She makes you feel, makes you uncomfortable, makes you hot, makes you cry.
Her novels are never similar to others you've probably heard of, because her characters have so many flaws they're unbelievably real.
This book was everything I was searching for and everything I had dreamed of.
In The Cityscape series, David Dylan stole my heart. I fell for him because he broke all the rules and fixed a woman who didn't know how to be fixed.

In Night Fever, we have Beau.
Beau is certainly something else.
He's bold, hot, honest, straightforward and driven.
He's rich but demanding, powerful and successful but above all, Beau is charming.
Trust me, you will fall for him too. It's only a matter of time.
Anyway, lemme go straight to the point: the only thing (or person) this amazing man wants, it's the one he cannot have.
So he offers her (or them) her (or Johnny's) dream on a silver platter. On his terms: one million, one night.

Do you think she's actually gonna do it? I'M GONNA DO IT xD (Kiddin' guys, I WAS JUST KIDDING!)
I won't give away any more spoilers about the plot, because YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK . Experience it. And at the end of it, you'll have to find the strength to let these characters go. (P.s. I killed Johnny almost a thousand times. You'll want to do the same.)
"Don't protect him," Beau said. "He didn't protect you."

I don't know if I'm the only crazy reader out there, but after finishing an haunting book, I often find myself starting another one without realizing I'm actually trying to fulfill an empty hole inside my chest. That one where the characters of THAT haunting book are finally resting.
After Come Together, I kept searching for David Dylan everywhere every chance I got and now, I've read about Beau Olivier and it seems my hole has been fulfilled. It won't last, I know better than that (because the last chapter of this series is gonna be released anytime soon) but I'm happy right now and head over heels in love with this author's writing. Lola and Beau's dialogues were one of the many best features of this book. Calibrated and perfectly balanced. READ NIGHT FEVER. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
"There's more to you than one night, though, and there's more to me. He can have the money. We can have the rest of each other."

*Audible Review*
I had previously read Possession, and the entire Explicitly Yours series, a little over a year ago, but when I saw Jessica Hawkins was having the audiobook recorded I knew I had to read it again. Or rather, listen to it. Narrated by Christian Fox, one of romancelandia's favorite narrators, I knew I was in for an erotic audible adventure. I usually like female narrators or alternating narrators, but Christian Fox knocked the ball out of the park with Possession. His natural voice, used for the general story and descriptors, is just the right amount of manly for a story of this nature. His character voices too were excellent, with Lola just the right pitch higher and Beau's just the right amount of gruff and demanding. I was immediately pulled into the story and I didn't want to stop listening when I exited my car and I definitely didn't want it to be over when I realized the next book has not yet released on audiobook. I really like this series and I highly recommend listening to it on audible, it's excellent.

*Book Review*

Lola Winters is pretty in that natural sort of way. She wears leather pants, her hair is usually pulled back, and her face is devoid of makeup. As a bartender and assistant manager at Hey Joe, a place she's been at for years, she's got no one to impress. She has her regulars, her friends, and companionship behind the bar. The only thing she doesn't have is certainty, of the bar's future or of her own.

Beau Olivier is a businessman and he knows how to get what he wants and he always gets it. He doesn't expect anything different when he sets his sites on Lola Winters, using her desire to purchase Hey Joe as leverage for her to give him just one night. He's willing to make her dreams come true, but he has conditions and Lola has a reason to say no, yet the promise of a future is too hard to ignore.

Jessica Hawkins has a way of taking events that no one ever wants to experience personally and telling a story you can't put down. She puts you in Lola's shoes, she makes you fall for gruff Beau, and she makes you forget this is not a fairytale romance story. Beau is demanding, he requires complete submission, and yet he shows sincerity and emotion through out his short evening with Lola. Lola is innocent in many ways, her experience in life having left out the lesson for a deal such as this. Their meeting is unconventional, the promise of one night allows for an erotic affair, but emotions are such a fickle thing. Possession is an erotic novel built on secrets, promises, and lust. Money can buy you so much and time, though fleeting, always leaves a mark, and Jessica Hawkins certainly leaves a mark with Possession.

Jessica Hawkins can really do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. I pre-ordered and was almost too excited to start it. Once I did, I couldn't put it down and read it until the end. There aren't many authors that can get in my head like Jessica. I loved it. I love that she explores human frailty, the stuff that's at the edges of relationships. It deserves to be a best seller. Can't wait for the next installment.

3.5 Hey Joe Stars

This is a hard one to review because it had me changing my mind constantly. One minute I really liked the characters and the next they seemed to be someone completely different.

Beau would make me swoon and then I'd want to slap him round the chops with my Kindle. He could have been darker, and less sweet. I didn't like Johnny from early on in this book, he didn't do anything in particular, he's just blah. Lola, well. At times she was strong, then I wanted her to grow some bloody lady balls and get her to do something that wasn't just to please Johnny.

And again it's a book with a less than satisfactory description of the man's equipment. I want to know size - length and girth- was it bigger or thicker than Johnny's?! TELL ME!

I'm hoping the next book will bring more drama and a bit of cat and mouse between Lola and Beau.

4 ⭐'s

I saw somewhere that it was said that this story is a little bit like Pretty Woman and Indecent Proposal and it sort of is...in parts.

Beau shows up at Hey Joes - a historical rundown bar that is run by Johnny and Lola who are a couple. He's there for a business meeting (he funds tech start ups) but he is distracted by Lola. So much so that at the end of the night, he makes Johnny and Lola a proposal that changes everything!

Johnny & Lola were the managers of Hey Joe a Bar on Sunset Blvd in LA with a great past that had seen better days.Lola had been with Johnny for 9 years and felt indebted to him for pulling her out of a troublesome life head for destruction. That was until HE walks in talk, dark, rich & handsome.

Beau Olivier self made millionaire brought some potential start-up company he was looking into buying and thought Hey Joe's was the right bar that wouldn't be too stuffy, he wanted to make them feel comfortable, however he laid his eyes on Lola and immediately knew he wanted her. At the end of the night he pulls Johnny & Lola aside and made them an offer they couldn't refuse. A offer to sleep with his girlfriend for $500,000 from sun down to sun up.

Lola knew Beau was attracted to her but did not know he would go this far. Nevertheless when she looked for his business card that he left on the end of the bar it was gone. Which only meant that Johnny must be considering his offer, how disappointing and exciting at the same time. Could Lola do it?

I don't know what's with me that I lose interest whenever I get to the middle part of the book. For this case, I wasn't a fan of the writing. I feel like the writing really affected my enjoyment with this book. The moment I read the description, I thought it had an interesting premise, it sounded promising.

Lola and Beau's first meeting definitely had sparks fly. However, as I got to the half of the book, I really couldn't feel their chemistry anymore. I think the writing style downplayed their underlying tension. They could've been so much more if the writing style brought it out of them.

Also, I feel like these two were both going in circles. One moment Beau was demanding her to leave, and then the next he was asking her to stay. Like bro??? So confusing. Anyway, despite the interesting premise, the book fell flat for me.

I never really liked the movie "Indecent Proposal" but totally into this remake. The rich guy is much hotter, and I'm more interested in the heroine. Though I find myself frustrated with her thought processes when it comes to the relationship with the boyfriend.

4 I want to make Dirty Art with You- Stars

"If you're worried about making love, don't be. I'm going to fuck you too." Lola, covered her mouth but couldn't tear her eyes away from him. "Beau," she said behind her hand. "I don't want any misconceptions. I'm going to make you uncomfortable. I'm going to worship you. I'm going to dominate you. Any man who just has sex with a woman like you is a fool. I want to make art with you - dirty, impossible, fucked-up, beautiful art."

It was the first time reading/reviewing a book by Jessica Hawkins and I've to say I'm pleasantly surprised and she got my interest piped by her sizzling plot and alluring characters. Her story-line flowed and Night Fever was a great introductions into her new series.

Lola and Johnny are running a bar (not their own though) and are together since nine years; saying they have a routine and lack of excitement in their relationship would be an understatement in my opinion...everything has its order in their relationship - you know, the roles and chores are always the same. The spark, the lust, the desire isn't the same anymore. Lola knows that but she loves him....Johnny was her savior and she loves him dearly (or so she thinks); both have a future plan or should I say Johnny has a dream and Lola has a plan. Johnny would love to have his own bar one day and what better opportunity then taking over the bar they've been working in for nine year?

Right, it all does sound logically but without money even the smallest dream is impossible. Johnny isn't a go-getter - Lola knows that - and when an unlikely but highly intriguing opportunity falls literally into their laps both are stunned and very dumbfounded.

On a harmless night Beau enters the bar with some coworkers. This man seems so versatile, intriguing, and has the look of a man that knows what he wants and always gets what he wants. He set his eyes on Lola and she can't deny how attractive he is and how attracted she is to him.

There was definitely lots of chemistry going on in the short time he was in the bar; chemistry that shouldn't have excited her so much. Hidden side remarks. Secretive looks of pure heat exchanged - yup both are drawn to each other.

"You think you have me figured out in ten minutes?" Lola asked.
"That's ten minutes longer than it takes me for most people."
Beau kept his eyes on her face. "And that has my attention."
"Is it hard o get your attention?" "It's harder to keep it,"

But before Beau leaves the bar he drops a bomb on Lola and Johnny....he can make their -or better Johnny's - dream come true. Half a million for one night with Lola that's all he wants. The money is theirs with no strings attached. She would be his from sun down to sun rise - his to obey his wishes and desires.

Will she take the money? Will she sleep with him to give Johnny his life-long dream? Can she basically sell herself? Degrade herself?

Well.... let's say it is one tempting offer with a man she thought about undressing the minute she lay eyes on him.

"You're driving me to the edge," he said. I don't know whether to come, or bend you over and finally take you."

*fans myself.... with Beau, Hawkins has created quite the character. Her plot intrigued me by not giving away everything from the beginning; it was like peeling off layers after layers off. Beau my type of guy - blunt, honest and very alluring. I'm super curious how their story continues because let's just say how it is: they hit it off very well. Damn I'd have loved to be in her place.

If you're looking for a sizzling, intriguing new series with quite a man that has many different faces and desires then this it for you. It's a fast read then makes you crave for more!

"I don't want any misconceptions. I'm going to make you uncomfortable. I'm going to worship you. I'm going to dominate you. Any man who just has sex with a woman like you is a fool. I want to make art with you--dirty, impossible, fucked-up, beautiful art."
The attraction between Lola Winters and Beau Olivier is obvious, except Lola has Johnny and she's willing to do anything for him. She will even be another man's woman for a day in exchange of a million dollars.

Beau Olivier knew the moment he saw Lola that he needed to have the beautiful woman--even if she was happily taken. So he starts scheming...
"I never take my eye off the target...Sometimes I miss, but I never miss twice."
When Beau reveals his plans, he wants one thing in return for the money (a huuugeee amount of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$) and that's Lola--he wants her for a night. Remember, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas...
"Answer me...Your secret stays here."
"I want it."
"What do you want?"

Lola knows agreeing to Beau's proposition means trouble; she can barely keep her hands off the man, but to belong to him for an entire night? As her feelings for Johnny hold her back, the prize--a million dollars AND the man who's been starring in her fantasies are clear as ever. Will she allow Beau to control everything? Her body, thoughts, and even her heart?
He liked power. Control. He fed on weakness--in a single bite--and it made him stronger.

Beau wants to worship every single part of Lola; to explore every nook and cranny, but the choice lies on Lola. Everything came down to a yes or a no.

description

4.5 STARS!!!

Would you do it? Would you spend one night with a stranger if you could make the dreams of the one you love come true? That’s the question Lola faces. Lola and Johnny run an old school bar, Hey Joe’s, in LA which is like their second home. Hey Joe’s is a local institution. Bars like Hey Joe’s are a dying breed. The bar comes up for sale, and it has always been Johnny’s dream to own it. If Lola and Johnny don’t save it, Hey Joe will go to the highest bidder which is most likely a developer and it will be turned into to a glitzy Sunset Strip night club. But, Lola and Johnny live paycheck-to-paycheck. Dreams are free, but making them a reality costs… and the cost isn’t always money.

In walks the rich, intelligent, and sexy as hell Beau Olivier with the answer. “Lola.” “I want Lola for one night.” “Give me one night alone with Lola, and Hey Joe could be yours.” That that one statement sets Lola, Johnny, and Beau on a path that will change each one of them in very different ways.

I was a HUGE Jessica Hawkins fan before, but Night Fever tuned me into a fangirl! Jessica has found a way to talk me into wanting her heroines to cheat! It’s almost subliminal. First The Cityscape Series now this! But, the surprise is in the way she makes you “okay” with all of it. Night Fever is a sexy, hot, and emotional mix of Indecent Proposal and Pretty Woman with twists you’ll never see coming. It’s good that episodes are being released weekly because you’ll be clawing for the next book before you even turn the last page!

I wasn’t even out of chapter one and I was soooooo interested!!!! I can't tell you how excited that made me! I've had a string of books lately that have bored me until a few chapters in, and I actually stopped reading a few. I really hate that. I want to make fast friends with a book, and Night Fever and I were on track to becoming BFFs.

Despite the circumstances, Jessica did a fabulous job making me like Lola. I didn’t feel like she's a gold digger or a whore. And, I liked Beau because he's controlling in a not so condescending way. Yes, he throws is weight around by mentioning his money but he only does it to bring Lola to his way of thinking and not to hurt her feelings necessarily. His choice of words is perfect. I like that Beau is slick and can talk Lola into things. But I also like that she challenges him, and he gets pissed off and turns into an a-hole. Beau is aggressive but not overpowering, and never felt like he made Lola feel worthless as sometimes happens when an author writes the woman submitting. The sexual attraction Jessica creates between Beau and Lola is absolutely smoldering and palpable.

I swear when Jessica writes there is a little movie playing in her head. Because when I read one of her books that's exactly how I feel - like it's a movie unfolding and not a book. I love that she starts with a visual for the reader. A lot of books begin with background info and other stuff I'm not interested in on page one - later, yes, but not right off the bat. I need to picture where the characters are right away, and that’s exactly what Jessica does.

Jessica Hawkins is so great at dialogue! Lola is a sassy and feisty and Beau is smooth and unnerving (in a very good way). The dialogue between Beau and Lola really drives the story. Jessica writes mature, smart, and utterly engaging dialogue.

And oh my gawd!!!!! The. Sex. Scenes. They are off the charts H-O-T, sexual, and uber arousing. Oh my word Jessica Hawkins! I sure hope you mother does not read the strip club scene. Holy blushing hotness. That was awesome and so unexpected.

I could go on and on, but really JUST READ THIS! I will say I’ve read the serial in its entirety and the story only gets BETTER AND BETTER with each episode.

A perverse conundrum

Makes me think of Thomas Jefferson and other slave owners. But it also reveals an idea rooted in pleasure and erasing any knowledge of right and wrong. But it unearths something that the white female psyche keeps highlighting in these novels but never truly examines. As the reapers of wealth and awards it exalts the intellectualization of blatant perversion and the individual gains of pleasure above the welfare of the community. One has to ask if one would really want to bring children into such a world. The different versions of such ideologies are made to seem unalike but when one lives in a black community in a purported third world country, after having a top class education and observing social change and transformation, one thing is evident: I have Beaus a ton in my family and community.

So for those in denial as to what my yellow/caramel complexion infers: Dear white people, the influence of those long dead and who are our common ancestors, left more in the will than we want to see- the legacy of a common nature. Where these books romanticize these habits for white, western sensibilities, the oppressed are more aggressive in their manifestations. Our white ancestors can disown by framing our identities via media differently, but they can never destroy the succinct truth that their black and white progeny are manifesting identical traits. Truth is, all men are attracted to that which is wealthy, powerful and dominant. There is no greater cruelty than the burning hunger which can never be satisfied but yet one insists in pursuing.
Whether the author understands it or not, Johnny and his bar are both metaphors for the anguish which black men in the Caribbean who are brilliant but have been denied opportunities for success seek to deny by sitting in bars daily or in a community with the smoke screen of marijuana as their only means of protest. Words paint Beau as admirable and likable, but all Beau truly is is despicable. But one must indeed endeavor to preserve the integrity of one's acknowledged and beloved offspring. For indeed according to how Johnny is framed, he is a loser. But is that the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about Johnny? Or are we being emotionally manipulated, for indeed, the ends justify the means. Johnny had means with futile ends but he is a very deliberate sketch.
Can the author write? Like a boss. And now we see how the pen is mightier than the sword. It is able to sway opinions and points of views with a very subtle what if. But is the customer always right or are consumers being twisted and turned by a very deliberate strategy? Are they demanding a particular product or are appetites being deliberately provoked?

Move over David Dylan, here comes Beau Olivier. I didn’t say that. I’m sorry David, please forgive me.

If you know me at all, you know I am a HUGE Jessica Hawkins fan and have been since Come Undone, book one of The Cityscape Series. No one writes an alpha man quite like Jessica. I swear I fall in love with every fictional man she creates.

I seem to be fan girling all over this review.

When I heard Jessica was releasing a new series, I was all over it. There was no way I would miss these books, I don’t care how full my reading calendar is, I made room for these.

Ok, fan girling over for a few moments at least.

Lola and Johnny have been together forever. They manage a bar together in LA that was hugely popular in it’s heyday. Now that’s it’s limping along because management doesn’t want to move forward with the times.

Beau Olivier shows up one night for a business meeting and zeroes right in on Lola. These two have huge chemistry, even while Lola was being faithful to Johnny, you could feel something between them.

Beau offers them a proposition, enough $$$ to make their dreams come true for one night with Lola.

And so the story goes.

I’ve got to say, I’m team Beau. (I don’t know if I’m supposed to pick sides or not, but I can, so I will.) At the point where we enter their relationship, Johnny feels to me like he’s kind of given up on actually chasing dreams, even really thinking about dreams, and I think that has caused Lola to do the same.

I thought this was going to have a Pretty Woman feel to it just from the description and from what I remember of Pretty Woman (I haven’t watched it in at least over a decade) but it was so much better. Pretty Woman was ok, Night Fever was on fire. The chemistry, the hot scenes, the not as spicy scenes where their banter back and forth was absolutely perfect. Lola’s indecision and Johnny’s about the whole situation felt real to me. Most of us would probably say that we would automatically say no to being paid to spend one night with someone, but with that amount of cash on the table…. would you be able to say no?

Night Fever is another incredible book from Jessica Hawkins and I cannot hardly wait for vol. 2. While this one didn’t leave us with a huge cliffhanger, we know there is more to come which leaves us sitting here in anticipation of what is coming next for these 3.

Thank you so much for my copy of Night Fever! <3 <3 <3

I was given an arc of this book for an honest review.

This is part of a 3 part serial. You have Johnny and Lola who are an average sort of couple. They run a local bar, but live paycheck to paycheck. Lola had so many dreams and aspirations, but the reality of life settled in. She got very comfortable in her life with Johnny... that is until Beau walks into their bar one night. He offers her and Johnny a one time deal at the life they dream of, but at what cost? And is that life what Lola really wants?

I have to say that Jessica is definitely one of my top favorite authors. There are certain books that I will always reread, her books are among those on that short list. She writes in a way that makes you crave more. I wish I had the words to describe her writing style. The words just flow, effortlessly, and seep under your skin. I felt every emotion right along with Lola. And the butterflies. When I was finished reading this, I had those butterflies all day. ALL DAY! The way this part ends, I get anxious just thinking about it and all the possibilities that await in book #2.

I bet Jessica could write about something as simple as 'how to pair socks' and it would be the most awesome novel ever. She just has a gift and I hope she never stops writing.
