Crow knows exactly where I am—but he hasn’t come for me.When I saw my chance to run, I took it and returned to New York City. I live in my old apartment, got my old job back, and do my best to pretend Crow Barsetti never existed. I looked him in the eye and told him I loved him—and he ignored me.I accept the relationship is over when he doesn’t call for several weeks, but when I walk into my apartment and spot the buttons sitting on the counter, I realize I’m wrong. Crow has come for me—and he wants me to know it.When we finally come face to face, I expect a groveling apology and a declaration of love, but I get neither. Crow wants me to return to Tuscany with him, and as much as I miss my old life, I refuse. Not unless he gives me everything I want. I want commitment instead of buttons. I want love instead of lust. After the everything that went down in the second book, 'Buttons and Pain' picks up with Pearl breaking away from her captor(s). Finally free again, she does her best to rebuild her life in New York City. She's stronger and determined to move on, leaving Crow behind.

Before Pearl can progress, she has to confront her past. First up, is her douchebag ex-boyfriend. While I was glad that she didn't let this guy off the hook entirely, I didn't think that he was made to suffer nearly enough for what he did. I wanted some blood and gore. Sadly, that didn't happen.

While Pearl exorcises one ex-boyfriend from her life, another one walks back in. Her college boyfriend, Jason, never gave up the hunt for her. He is the only person in her life that cared when she went missing and ensured that the police continued the search long after others had considered it to be a lost cause.

Doing her best to move on after Crow, Pearl tries to reignite her romance with Jason. It is clear that he never got over Pearl. He even dedicated his life to finding her while she was missing. However, Crow still haunts her.

Separated from Pearl, Crow also has a lot of difficulty moving on. He can't stop thinking about the slave that became his obsession. He wants her back. Oddly enough, Cane has had a change of heart and becomes Pearl's biggest supporter.

Crow knows that if he can find Pearl so easily, so can others. Bones has never given up his quest to get Pearl back. There is plenty of danger and action as the brothers finally head-off with their biggest rival.

Things also settle down in this book. Crow finally comes to terms with his feelings and this book has a sweeter, softer feel to it. It was nice to see this couple finally work out their problems and find some common ground. I was happy with the way things worked out in the end.

I really enjoyed this series as a whole. There were definitely some weak points and some eye-roll moments…but overall it did a decent job of satisfying my mafia-lite/forced proximity/dubious consent cravings. All problematic, yes yes, I know. I don’t care.

The characters had great chemistry, there was decent angst, and I love a good enigmatic non-hero. I can definitely see myself re-reading. A solid guilty pleasure read series for sure.

Best book of the series so far!

Pearl is a great character. She gets broken but puts herself back together, she is fragile and needs to be protected by Crow, but at times she is the ultimate badass. She stands up for herself and doesn’t allow anyone to treat her like crap. I wish more people would write women like this, she is strong and funny at times as well.

“Are you insane?” he snarled. “Tristan may be a psychopath, but he’s not stupid. He’d put two and two together pretty quickly. And we just got rid of You-Know-Who. I’m not looking to have any more enemies, especially when a new overlord is on the rise.”
“Stop calling him that. You’re making this sound like Harry Potter.”
“Well, I’d call him by his real name if you didn’t have a hissy fit about it.”

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK JUST HAPPENED HERE?!

I'm so fucking disappointed right now I can't even find the words to describe the level of my grudge...

It's like the author took a detour from a fuckin great dark vacation and just crumbled into the abyss of blubberish, illogical and very non-believable shit.

So, I m not even gonna pay respect to the storyline since, even though it did start solid but then the second part of the book was just fucking shit...it's like I was reading a comic book with caricatures and not the characters I grew to like in first two books...

and our heroine suddenly turned from a strong willed woman with determination and resilience into a fucking caricature acting like a "batgirl on a Steven Segal crap shit "I'll fuck your ass" mambo jumbo!

Fuckin really?!

And another thing, the grammar...Jesus, fuck...was there no editing at all?!
How is that possible?!
I mean, I can understand a slip, a lapsus here and there, it's humanly understandable and it happens...

BUT when I start to fuckin notice the grammar mistakes more than I am focusing on the story, then it rubs me the wrong way.

It pisses me off, it makes me nervous, grouchy and I tend to act unapologetic and cruel.

Unfortunately, this was such a let down...and the feeling is even more bitter since the first two books were such a goid (see, lapsus, right there!) surprise, they weren't perfect, I had issues there too but they didn't bother me enough to destroy the story so I've let it go...but here, I can't do that. 😠

Penelope sky is amazing!!!! 😍❤️

I love her so much. She can do no wrong in my eyes. She's become an absolute favorite author of mine.

This book made me feel so many emotions. I legit thought I was going to pass out at one point from how fast my fast was beating.

Pearl is absolutely on fire in this book. If I thought she was badass before, she took it to new heights in this book. She's the best.

Genre: Romance
Setting: New York
POVs: Dual, 1st person

Retribution was finally delivered in this story!!!

This book continues where Buttons & Hate left off and Pearl doesn't spend much time wallowing in sadness over her past as a slave to Bones. She returns to New York angry and hell-bent on dismembering her ex-boyfriend for selling her into sex trafficking. Along the way, unanswered questions from Buttons & Hate are finally answered and Pearl begins to slowly rebuild her life. Crow Barsetti makes an appearance when she least expects him to.

Likes?
Some of the dialogue between Crow and Pearl was hilarious! They verbally sparred with each other like they were in a boxing ring! She had a comeback for all of his responses and his dry sense of humor was always chuckle-worthy. Crow's version of groveling was just...so Crow! He was stubborn about verbalizing his emotions but his actions spoke the loudest.

Favorite lines from Crow?
“A real man doesn’t think about the men before him. He erases them.”

SPELL CHECK!!!

Holy mother!! I cannot believe this got published as it is. It's as though 1/3rd into the book someone stopped editing. Even names were wrong!!!

Loved the heroine and the hero, although the way he tries to get her back is BS. But the emotion of their parting the second time was gripping.

It was a nice conclusion to an already long winded saga.

PS I find it over used to have EPILOGUES where the oversexed heroes suddenly have 5 kids and are still horny for each other. I wish when they have epilogues with tons of kids, they would be more realistic. You know, stretch marks, dirty diapers and fatigue! I digress...

I was really looking forward to the conclusion of this trilogy and there were aspects I did really like - such as when she meets up with her ex. Unfortunately there were so many typos it was painful. I suggest Penelope Sky finds herself a new editor, because this really was terrible and ruined the lot.

Bones will stop at nothing, his continuous attempts to kidnap Pearl the obsession he has with her is horrifying. However, Button is a fighter she no damsel in distress and now her new kidnapers are aware of the fire and fight Pearl has in her. Escaping again and now back in New York City her first stop was to the succumb bag ex-boyfriend who sold Pearl into sex trafficking in the first place. This is when Pearl finds out from the Police who never stopped looking for her, her college boyfriend Jason. Jason comes off as nice, straight lace, Park Avenue, timid and unsure of himself around Pearl. He's always not sure how to treat Pearl, thinking she is fragile. As a reader you know that relationship will not workout but appreciate that Jason cared.

Pearl is trying to put herself together since her escape, but is having difficulties moving on without Crow. Crow has not gotten in contact with her even though he know exactly where Pearl is. Oddly Crow is having the same problem as Pearl he can't move on from his obsession from the slave who lights fire in him. The one person who is on Pearl team now which is surprising is Cane, Crow's brother he convinced Crow not to give up. “My darkness complemented her light. And her fierceness complemented my rage.”

When Pearl arrives home on the countertop is a pile buttons at that moment she knows Crow is close and that he has never forgotten her after all. But if Crow can find her can Bones find her too?

Vale MUITO a pena. Linda! Perfeita!

I've had enough of this book. The plot repeated itself. Crow acted like a fool and Pearl was no better than him. The same sentences are repeated over and over again the rivalry with Bones that goes nowhere repeayed itself . Boring sex scenes are repetitive.
My score for this book is 2 stars and I am dropping another star due to many major grammatical errors and negligence in editing .This was disrespectful to the readers .

I fell in love with this series! The only reason I'm giving 4 star instead of 5 is that there were inconsistencies in her books. The author suddenly decides to change the eye colour of heroine in the second and third book. In this final book, there were so many typos and grammar errors that hurt my eyes even though I am not a grammar police.

Updated 5-16-17!! Finally it has been released!

After reading Buttons and Hate, I was anxious waiting the last book. I waited for the ARCs but with no announcement I decided to buy the book. I later saw the ARC in my email, but I don't regret buying it.

All I wanted to do was read, read, read. I didn't want to go to work, I didn't want to get out of bed, I just wanted to read the book.

After escaping back to New York and confronting her ex boyfriend, Pearl starts to get back on her feet. While she misses Crow, she knows he can't love her the way she wants and tries to forget about him. But who easy will that be when she comes home and find a jar of buttons on the table, knowing it wasn't there when she left? Maybe he hasn't forgotten about her like she thought.

I had high expectations for this book and it did deliver. I will admit I had a few issues with some of the plot points especially how the ex boyfriend was handled, but I felt it had a satisfying ending though I am not ready to say goodbye to Pearl and Crow.

Crow developed a lot throughout the series from seeing Pearl as a slave from finally admitting that he cares about her more than that. He was just being so stubborn about admitting his feelings to Pearl not only to himself but to her. But I loved Crow.

When reading the first book, I was a little apprehensive why he would be the love interest. I couldn't see any chemistry with them, no way there would ever have any type of bond, but throughout the series, I understood. Both were jagged and both needed someone to help balance the other.

I cried a few times while reading this book. A few scenes were so heart aching I could feel their longing and feel their pain that I couldn't help but cry along side with them.

I would love to have a trilogy about Cane and how he meets a woman that he never thought he would find, and tries to fight all the while Crow and Pearl are trying to encourage to explore the relationship and see where it goes.

I am excited for The Scotch King.

I would love to be able to give this book a higher rating because I enjoyed the story but I can't in good faith. The book comes with trigger warnings because it contains graphic violence against the heroine. In spite of the topic, the story was really good. It was full of tension, romance, and suspense. Unlike many books, the heroine did not give in or give up. She was determined to get out of the horrible situation she found herself thrust into.

This is where my positive review has to stop. When reading the first and second books in the series, I found, as I was reading, some errors in grammar where either the wrong word was used or a word was left out completely that either altered the meaning of the sentence or the sentence made no sense at all. The further I read into this book the more often the omissions occurred, to the point where they were happening several times in a chapter. There were also a couple of times where the writer used the wrong character name as she was writing. For instance if the description or conversation was pertaining to Crow she would use his brother's name instead.

I would love to be able to recommend this series but it is in serious need of an editor's red pen.

Me, finally finishing this train wreck of a series:

Then me, realizing there's 3 more books:

Do I want to finish the series, and be subject to the awfulness of a Cane POV? No. But the completionist in me is holding hands with my inner masochist, so I'll probably finish it.

Honestly, it's just more of the same as the previous two, but dare I say slightly more random violence and much more vanilla sex? It felt more boring than the previous two, and these relationships still aren't even remotely healthy, but I'll admit there were a couple of sweet moments. But whatever - no one is reading these for the brilliant writing and tight plot, amirite? These are trashy, easy reads between much heavier books for me, and they serve their purpose.

Honestly, i think this is the first time I've ever encountered a truly strong heroine in every aspect, in a dark romance. Specially in a captive trope. This is a re-read but i didn't remember anything about this, so that was good. She never lost that "fire'' at any point of the book. It resurfaces everytime regardless of what she's been through. And I'm not talking about the "feisty" version of her that every character in the book raves about.

There's just something about the way she handles things, stands her ground, does not suffer from body-betraying syndrome (thank god), manipulate the villain, is not squeamish about spilling blood of the bad guy, helps and understand the hero's need for revenge, is ready to deliver justice. While at the same time, she is also emotional, is not afraid to love and affection, is open to mundane love life.

So, while she may not be "not like other girls", but she still is– not like other heroines of dark romances. :)

Who did the editing?

This was a great series. The editing was horrific. There were so many errors it was distracting. Also is it just me or was the timing of his sister's one year anniversary of her death and the timing in which Button had been with Crow completely off??? Ugh. I have to admit these little things losses me off and slightly ruined the story for me.

Sorry

I hated to give this 2 stars. I just can't overlook the countless spelling, grammar and continuity mistakes. There is no reason for poorly executed writing. Spell check, edit check, than do it again. You are a well established author there is no excuse for such shabby work to be released.
