You're making a living. But are you having a life? If not, you're putting yourself at risk for burnout. To stay productive on the job, you need to bring your whole self to work-balancing professional and personal commitments, and safeguarding your physical and psychological health. Concise and compelling, Harvard Business Review on Bringing Your Whole Self to Work is every manager's must-have resource for staying productive and healthy on the job.
I purchased this book in order to think through the hierarchy on page 47. My interest is in the notion that spirituality is the smallest part at the top of the pyramid, rather than the largest part that supports all the rest of the pyramid.
I will get back with a further update as I get further into the piece.
A detailed analysis of what goes on in your mind when you face different kind of situations. Helps you deal with such situations in a more mature and an informed way.
It was an interesting read , however given the time frame for when the book was first published and today , I found out two things
1) There is nothing new here that anyone reading about productivity/self help would have not across earlier.
2) Problems of old still hold true today, at least with regards to the corporate environment.
Now that is out of the way, if you have never picked up any productivity/self help book and are looking for a singular book that consolidates a lot of ideas in one location (HBR has a series of books for given situations .. umm google it). Then I would highly recommend picking it up.
The content is concise and valid. Though some recommendation could use with an update.
For me the read was good and it did reiterate a few points that I had forgotten.
I picked up this book after work for its looking less economics-heavy, more on work-life balance and self-management. I like the diversity of the content: the content varies from essays, interviews, to academic reports. The articles compiled in this book come from leading American and Asian experts in business and health. They address such classic concerns as “when is stress helpful and when is it harmful?”, “what can managers with chronic overwhelming workload do to improve their performance?”
You can find both academic matter and self-help materials in this book. For example, Practical ways to cope with workplace physical isolation, reducing fear and fostering connection, alleviating negative stress and stimulating positive stress. As an ESL teacher, I want to include the content of the book in my teaching materials. It would be great if there are follow-up questions and further discussion points after each article.
