Princess Misha has fled to Australia to escape her engagement, sure that her fiancee has been unfaithful. She's staying on her friend Nuala's farm. Nuala is about to get married, so she has to keep leaving the farm to attend to wedding business. That leaves Misha alone on the farm a lot with Misha's older brother, Brant Smith. He's worried about his farm, thinking his sheep have foot rot. He's also dealing with being on the cover of Today's Woman magazine as the most eligible bachelor farmer around, which is bringing him a lot of unwanted female attention. Misha is good at disguising herself, and offers to be Brant's fiancee in order to get the other women off his case. Of course, spending all that time together sees sparks flying.

This was a generally enjoyable romance. It had to have something going for it, because I pretty much read it in one go. Neither Misha nor Brant irked me. The big drawback is that Misha is engaged for more than half the story while she figures out what she wants to do with her life. That felt a little unfair on Brant. Why should he stand around waiting for Misha to figure her shit out? However, I guess that's what him a decent romantic hero. He won't let Misha use him, but he doesn't run away from his feelings for her, and won't let her make rash decisions for his sake. One of the better romance heroes I've come across in a while! To be honest, I found all the farm stuff and details about horse racing a little dull. But even with the fanciful premise of a princess going incognito on an Australian farm, this played out surprisingly believably, and Misha and Brant were interesting, fleshed-out people.

***Detailed Review***

PRINCESS IN DISGUISE got better as the story progressed.

Adventure seeking princes, Misha, has taken refuge at her best friend Nuala and her brother Brant Smith after publicity photos emerged of her fiancé questioning his faithfulness.

Being a rancher is hard enough, but Brant is having an extra bad day when Misha arrives. After taking out a magazine add to get his buddy back into the grove of dating, Brant has had ditzy woman after woman seeking him out hoping to be ‘the one’. At first he judges her pretty harshly; especially when he learns she’s a princess.

He soon learns that Misha loves doing new things and taking on challenges. With Nuala dealing with wedding plans, she leaves Misha in the hands of Brant for days at a time.

Misha is a great help around the farm and the more Brant is around her, the easier it is to get lost and forget about the potential devastating hit his livelihood will take if he’s ewe’s have foot rot.

Being a princess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Now that she’s realized she’s in a loveless engagement, she can’t break it off until a few key announcements are made and parliament okays it.

The chemistry kicks off finally and these two hit the sheet, both forgetting about their own troubles. But it turns into more when their feelings get involved. They try to forget their limited time together, just enjoying each other and both wishing for more. Of course, neither one will admit it though, especially with their two different worlds.

It’s after a fight that sends Misha back to the land to prove she belongs in her world that things take a turn. While helping a stuck ram, Misha is pinned underneath the four-wheeler in the cold and wet.

Finally getting home after her, Brant finds her fiancée waiting on her. Discovering things missing, Brant’s eerie feeling gets worse when it becomes clear Misha is in trouble.

Rushing to search for her, he does indeed find her, but it’s not the reunion she was expecting. Getting her back to the house and warm, he insists she leave with her fiancée to finish talking and catch their planes together.

Three weeks Brant surprises Misha unannounced. Both now knows their feelings weren’t the result of the circumstances they were in at the time. And both are willing to work things out.

Spending time with the other, they take things slow and get in order how they want their life to go. Nuala’s wedding goes off without a hitch and they follow soon after.

With her parent’s blessing, Misha looks forward to a much quieter, yet none the less challenging life with Brant.

Typical Harlequin fare. The writing was good, as was he pacing. It's usually the characters I have problems with and this one was no exception. Brant, our hero, was a dream guy...sure he was surly and grumpy, but he was honorable and as he fell in love a little desperate to be with the heroine. The heroine though - selfish. I despised the way she treated Brant. She ends up in Australia on the farm visiting her friend Nuala who lives with her brother Brant. Whens he arrives she is engaged (although she's considering breaking it off because the guy has been unfaithful).

Their first kiss happens after they've just been talking about her unfaithful fiance and when Brant asks what that was all about she admits to using him to find out whether she could be unfaithful. Ech! Then, when they finally get to the bedroom, he asks about her fiance (who she's decided to break it off with) and she chooses not to tell him. She lets him go to bed with her thinking that she's still engaged! And all the while that she's sleeping with him and their getting closer and she plans on leaving him because she admits that there is no way they can be together. Then she's getting all upset because he's making big decisions without telling her, like it's any of her business when she plans on walking out of his life! She frustrated me because of her spoiled, selfish attitude - especially when the author went to pains to prove that she wasn't really a spoiled princess.
