Have you ever wondered what makes some people more successful than others? Well it does not always boil down to talent. Often times there are far more variables involved that causes some to rise above rest. There is no doubt that we all want to be successful in life. The million dollar question, however, is how should we go about obtaining that success? Yes there are some who are just flat out better. Those who, no matter what they do, possess an innate ability to come out on top of any situation. But that group is the exception to the rule, not it's standard. So how do the vast majority of successful people, including myself, become successful? As marvelously stated in the title, It's Not Because I'm Better Than You. I and many others have tapped into some crucial life principles that have truly transformed the way we live our lives. Contrary to our wishful thinking, there are no magical success buttons in life. Yet that does not mean success is a far off foreign concept that cannot be actualized. I truly believe that if you catch hold of these principles, they will go a long way in helping you just like they did for myself and for countless others.
Don Carey is and NFL player formerly of the Panthers but current Detroit Lion! I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Carey in person (I ran to his table so fast when I saw that beautiful blue Lion!). He is a passionate individual and very humble. His book reflects his struggle to get to where he is today. It wasn't preachy and really spoke of motivation and inspiration. It got a bit repetitive toward the end and the flow was choppy and sewn together awkwardly. The message was good though and the heart of the book was warming. Nice to see a home town hero and see how he managed to propel himself to the NFL through honest hard-work. Great for any Detroiter!
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. The book partly memoir and partly motivation literature. At the end of the chapters there is space created to make notes and work through what you've learned. There are also quotes from other NFL players providing their takes and life advice. Although there are some solid nuggets of good information, a lot of it came off very cliche and were quotes from other people, some widely known. Not that any of that is innacurate, but I would have preferred more organic thoughts. I wished I had taken away more from it, but it didn't engage me as much as I had hoped.
Inspiration from someone I have enjoyed watching perform on the field both at NSU Spartans (BEHOLD) games and the NFL. Nice idea sharing other Grid Iron stories.
