Fifty Shades of Pink

BDSM was never my scene. I've always thought I was too strong to be dominated. Authority and I never did get along. So, when I was dragged to a special kind of club for my best friend's bachelorette party the last thing I expected to do was surrender myself completely.

I wasn't going to participate. Then I was summoned to the "Pink Room". Her room. As I watched her walk away from me, I realized I had no choice but to follow. I was already hooked.

She demanded I call her Mistress.
I demanded she take off her mask.

I’ve been in Houston, Texas, writing novels and designing websites since 2009. Moving here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, because I’ve been able to live wonderfully, and write my heart out. I’ve always enjoyed the arts in one form or another. Music sets the mood, reading stimulates my brain, and writing allows me to utilize my imagination in any way I want. I’ve been writing stories since I was a teen, and figured out it was my passion when I finished my first novel, Something About Eve.

I love being captivated by books that lead me into different, exotic places, and through impossible scenarios. I love being able to become someone else for a time. Reading has always inspired me to bring my own characters out to play. My hope is that my writing will inspire others, or at the least, give them a way to escape from everyday life for a little while.

If I'm not writing or reading, I'm training for triathlons. It's a good way to challenge my body the way I challenge my brain when writing. I'm not the greatest at it, but not only do I do it for the challenge, I do it for charity. It's a good motivation. :)

Eye-opener!

Some of you may know how terribly fond I am of Mrs Middleton. It's a book by Melissa Tereze about a woman who falls for her best friend's mother, and the reason I'm talking about this now is because Tereze is doing a crossover story with Becoming: An LA Lovers Book by Jourdyn Kelly. The crossover will be called Teach Me and it will be out on 4 August 2021. I'm excited to see what happens next to Vanessa and Emma after their engagement, but before that I want to know the characters in Becoming.

50 Shades of Pink is a novella that precedes Becoming and even though Kelly is a new author to me, it's easy to guess what the story is about. Like our main character, Cass, I'm not one for BDSM, but when Cass is led by her best friend to a special kind of club, it piqued my curiousity. I must say, it's an eye-opener for me as much as it is for Cass. Cass is immediately drawn to a mysterious woman known only as Mistress and Cass' first experience with BDSM begins. The encounters with Mistress are hot and tantalizing, so I totally understand Cass' obsession with Mistress. I wish however that love can taken out of the equation for now as it's too soon and too much.

One major theme in this novella is consent and while Cass learns the easy way from Mistress about the importance of consent, I know my next read, i.e. Becoming, that is the story of Mistress, will be a more difficult read.

This author should definitely stick to erotica and skip the full length novels. This was the novella version of the novel “Becoming: An LA Lovers Book.”

The writing is not perfect but the sexy times are.

The title alone would normally send this straight to my "50 shades on no thanks" shelf. But I'm so starved for lesbian novels, with a dose of BDSM, I'm taking a leap of faith...

VERDICT - 3.73 stars.

This was better than I expected and goes to show don't judge a book by its title. The story in told in first person and completely from Cassidy's point of view. She has a unique voice; sometimes it was great other times grating. Readers who don't mine being spoken to by the narrator, are likely to love those parts. I personally find it jarring. It pulls me out of a story instead of into it.

Although the story is told from Cass's POV, Mistress won the show for me. And I'm not talking the sex scenes, although they're hot, but she felt like the most rounded out character.

Fifty Shades of Bratty Behavior.

It's not the first time I've read a novella and thought "I wish this was longer." It would seem I wasn't the only one who thought that because Becoming is the full length novel to this story. I fully intend on reading that as well but first, here's what you need to know about this sinfully sexy story.

The plot. Cass gets dragged to a BDSM club to celebrate her best friend's bachelorette party. Full of misconceptions and having no clue what the lifestyle entails, she finds herself captivated by none other than the club's head Mistress.

The characters. Normally I tend to identify more with characters who are dominant like Mistress but in this case I related more to Cass. Aside from the story being told from her POV, I found myself grinning at her Bratty behavior. It would seem neither of us like taking orders.

The writing. Suspend your disbelief ladies. I had to call BS when Cass was apparently sporting something that isn't suitable for pack and play. Also, given the length of this story, the plot is really condensed and had a very insta-love feel to it.

The sizzle. Obviously BDSM themed books are not for everyone but for those who are curious/interested in it, I would advise not to read this in public. Maybe also have a bottle of water standing by to hydrate with because there are a multitude of toys and gear included in this story.

The final note. I still have so many questions regarding Cass and her Mistress. Hopefully Becoming will answer those when I eventually get to it. Overall rating for this is a 3,5*

I read this novella in anticipation of the follow-up, "Becoming." Author Melissa Tereze said in a Facebook group that "Becoming" is "everything you need in life." lol This one was definitely hot. I would say if Becoming is even better, it's something that I need to experience. Pronto. 4.25 stars

Fifty Shades of Pink (An LA Lovers Novella) by Jourdyn Kelly: The title threw me for a minute but I picked it up anyway. I am certainly happy that I did. It comes down to two characters and how life works for them. BDSM is not for everyone, nor is it a vanilla relationship. Cassidy is a reluctant guest at a BDSM club, for a bachelorette party, (why do same-sex couples follow the heteronormative patterns when they never wanted us to be a part of anyway), or is it the BDSM that has her reluctant. She seems to be abandoned by her friends. Cassidy/Cass is androgynous the author paints her with a sexy brush. An Invitation and the book falls into place. Consent is important and it is set in place and the book is now fully a go. To this point, I was as reluctant as Cassidy, whose perspective this book is told in. It is a solid book with fairy tale aspects. It is worth the read I call it 4 stars.

I listened to the newly released audiobook. It was a pleasure getting acquainted with Cassidy and the Mistress again. It is as good as an audiobook. A great story of love and romance in brokenness. I am upping this to 5 stars.

I do wish it was longer

I really enjoyed this read. I don't know much about the BDSM world or how realistic thongs in this book are but I like Cassidy and Rebecca's characters. I actually read "Coming Out: LA" before this one so their story is one I wanted to know more about. And honestly still do...I mean the relationship between Cass and Rand seems to have so much more to say as well as Rebecca and Cassidy. Regardless, I enjoyed it.

This is basically a short version of Becoming told by Cass' point of view. I did like the full novel more because it gave me more insight into Mistress' character which was the one that captivated my attention.

Learning and new lifestyle

Cass is not interested in BDSM because she thinks it's about pain. When Mistress offers her a lesson she can't refuse. Rebecca has been through a very painful experience physically and emotionally, but she is drawn to Cass. You can feel all the mixed emotions going on between them as you read their story and their sexual connection. It's super hot and yet tender. I love these characters.

I totally loved this book. I had it finished within two hours of starting it. I'm trying to read more stories with BDSM in them but only if it is light, I'm not ready for the hardcore stuff yet (if ever).

Cass goes to a BDSM club with her best friend for a bachelorette party. To begin with she doesn't know what kind of club it is and when she finds out she is not happy. Later, whilst looking around she meets a mystery woman only known by the name Mistress and she is captivated by this woman and would do anything for her.

This book is well written and keeps you wanting to turn the page and before you know it you are finished.

This is my first book by this author but it certainly won't be my last.

*The copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*

I really, really loved it. The scenes description was exactly to my liking, not too heavy, but with a hint of S&M, with a dash of bondage, perfect dosage for everyone to find them hot and skilled. Plus, the sex scenes were a logical consequence and follow up of Cassidy's emotional relationship with her Mistress. A perfect novella for a lovely night. :)

If you haven't read Becoming before this, I recommend it. If you have, then you know that this is Cass's point of view of her's and Mistress/Rebecca's meeting. Because Mistress is so careful. Cass is hesitant and against BDSM until she sees Mistress. Then she's intrigued. But Mistress breaks her own rules for Cass. This is so HOT, the BDSM is so erotic! 5 stars!

Read this immediately after the Becoming which tells the same story but from Rebecca’s side and a full story about them both. I loved reading Cassidy’s side of the story in this novella. It made Becoming even hotter and better for me.

Fifty Shades Of Pink by Jourdyn Kelly is a erotica and LGBTQIA read.

This was a really good read with good characters. This was a just one more page read. Could not put this down. 5*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.

Oh wow! So much better than I was expecting. Cass was dragged to a BDSM club for her friend's bachelorette party. Grumpy and out of sorts she sulked at the bar until she got an invitation to the pink room. Curiosity and a cute butt got her to go to the room.

What surprised me about this novella was the way the main characters were given such a strong connection with each other in such a short book. Their chemistry was undeniable and the sex was hot but it was made almost tangible by their connection. Cass' desire to resist authority and submit at the same time was well portrayed but her recognition of the mistress being more and feeling more gave the book a depth rather than just titillation.

I wish it had been longer but it worked just as it was.

Don’t fall in love with me.

I was simultaneously excited and sceptical when I went into this book and its sad that my scepticism won over for yet another BDSM book.

There are two reasons I was so sceptical about this.

1. Melissa Tereze, author of books like Mrs. Middleton and The Arrangement, has written a crossover with this series: Teach Me. In my reading experience, Melissa Tereze is an author who writes really angsty stories with gorgeous book covers. In fact, I've been tricked into reading her books just because of the covers. I'm currently reading (and not particularly enjoying) her novel Behind Her Eyes.

The author writes five-star reviews for books which are similarly quite angsty. This is not meant to be an attack on the author, her reading tastes or her writing. Melissa Tereze has quite a number of fans in the lesfic reading community, I'm merely stating that her writing isn't my thing. And any crossover she does with an author will have me on guard.

The problem with this novella is that it was terribly angsty. Sex and break-up and sadness over a relationship that wasn't even there in the first place. Sex again. The final break-up. Bumping into each other. (Serendipity! What would plots do without thou!) Abusive pasts. Cheating exes. Ugh.

Moreover, this is a 100 page novella. Stretching out so much angst over a novel makes the work simply boring. But in a novella? It's just fast-paced angst with no time to let us get to the characters. It falls flat with no emotional build up whatsoever.

This is an age-gap romance between a 25 year old and a forty one year old but somehow the Mistress still has all the angular beauty of a twenty-two year old. This is an absurdity common in all lesbian age-gap romances.

2. The book title inspired by Fifty Shades of Grey. The basic problem with Fifty Shades of Pink was that it managed to denounce and badly portray the very lifestyle it based itself on. It separates the idea of love and BDSM and says in a truly loving relationship your sex-life must be vanilla–and preferably banal–otherwise it isn't love.

I am disappointed that this novella does that too.

We made love last night.”
“As Rebecca or Mistress?”
“As me.”

(Rebecca talking to her therapist.)

“It wasn’t what we did in that room. It’s you who makes me feel this way, Rebecca.”
(Cassidy to Rebecca.)

While BDSM isn't an integral part of everybody's sex life, is it that difficult to comprehend that some people truly are in the Lifestyle? Like when Cassidy's friend Miranda was out for fun on her bachelorette by having sex with somebody else (with permission from her Dom and to-be-husband Connor of course), the Mistress explains to an indignant Cassidy that Miranda will actually be having sex with Connor wherein he will be hidden (like in a sex booth arrangement). In fact, after this experience Miranda says that it helped her realise that Connor is the one for her!

And so what could easily be a fetish or just plain fun, gets treated as an act of sexual unfaithfulness and of course the Mistress steps in to help Miranda realise that there is just the one man for her! Acks, let the girl have her fun. And no, running interference is just that, an uncalled for interference.

Now, I'll be frank and go ahead and say that I love the idea of what society traditionally perceives as "dominant" or "macho" like men, butch women and masculine non-binary characters being dominated. So the idea of Cassidy, a strapping butch woman being dominated by the femme Mistress was so hot. However, I'd rate the sex scenes a 2.5/5. Repetitive dialogue and too many exclamation marks.

I wish I had enjoyed this book so much more but it didn’t grab my attention and interest as much as I was expecting after reading the sinopse. I honestly only kept on reading bc I don’t like to leave things unfinished. I couldn’t feel the chemistry between the characters and there was no plot per say, so the only thing I liked was the smut, which was hot. But it would’ve been way much more hot if I could feel the chemistry. But oh well...

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it.

This book suffers from cool storyline and flat characters. The storyline is fun and exciting. Cassidy meeting Mistress at a BDSM club on her friend's bachelorette night. I liked how they played off one another. However the book was too short and due to this the characters never really developed. Sometimes a character can be completely rounded in a short story, but here they fell a bit short of what I would like to see in a character. I wasn't feeling their emotions or understanding who they were. I think if it had been longer it would have given the author enough time to round them out. Hopefully. Other than that it's a good read and has good sex scenes. A nice quick read right before bed haha.

Wow - Enjoyed That !

I thought I read this sometime ago but if I did I am glad I have reread it. This was a fast rush like a roller coaster and the scenes themselves leaves you breathless. You can’t help loving Cassidy and Mistress. You can feel their connection in the words written. When everything changes and Mistress leaves, you can feel the hurt that Cass is going through. When Cassidy bumps into Rebecca aka Mistress, you can feel the excitement that runs through them. Willing to give their relationship a normal try, Cassidy expresses her love for Rebecca and their life begins. I loved it.... I guess I am going to read the whole series again, it is that good!

What was I thinking?!

I don't know why I thought something with a title having a play at Fifty Shades of Grey could be not as bad as Fifty Shades of Grey.

So, I have never read said popular wannabe bdsm novel - only parts of it and that was way enough. But I'm not here to talk about that book, I wanna review Fifty Shades of Pink.

First thing that bothered me were the special, special eyes of both MCs. I can kinda accept those things if they are in a fantasy setting - but even then I'm annoyed if they are told again and again. But in contemporary? Nope. Thank you, but no.

I could have ignored it if not for the other things. The narrating MC has no knowledge of bdsm, but knows for sure she doesn't like giving or receiving pain. It's just not her cup of tea. There is way more to bdsm but let's leave it at that. Her best friend is getting married and they party at a bdsm club for her last night of not being a wife.Soon she is gone and the MC is alone.

Until a woman sets her eyes on her and she is summoned to the so-called Mistress. Enter a jump right into a bdsm scene. Well, not right into, the MC is allowed to have a safeword at least. But there is absolutely NO negotiation, no talking about which things are okay and which absolutely not. You simply choose a newbie, tie her up and have a go at her with a whip (and who knows what else, since I stopped reading there).

I don't know if it's going to get better but since this is a novella, there aren't really a lot of pages to do so.

If you're asking me, there are better bdsm books out there.

This is a book about a woman named Cassidy who finds herself at a BDSM club for her best friend's bachelorette party. The only problem? Cassidy isn't into kink or at least she doesn't think she is. That is until she finds out she likes it with the help of a mysterious and gorgeous Mistress and her pink room.

I liked this story. I thought that Cassidy and Mistress were well rounded characters. The chemistry between the two of them right from the beginning is hot and so is the sex. The only thing I didn't like about this book was that it wasn't long enough. I felt like the emotions of the characters happened too fast like after playing only three times suddenly they are both in love with each other. I feel like the book would have been better if it was longer and the characters had had more time to let their attraction grow. Other than that it was a good book and i'll be reading the next book in the series.

So....I started reading Jourdyns books in order to be able to read her colab with one of my fav writers, Miss Tereze. And Coming out made me raving about the author and her skills so of course I wanted to read everything else... Therefore I read the novel she wrote on a "dare" about Rebbeca and Cass and then the continuation of their story...

And....and I say with first all of the respect, second of all with respect for the circumstances the author was going through in life, while writing....

But if you cannot deliver something of quality, then.... I know that 50 shades was written on a dare but it is not an excuse for a half-way writing....or at least should not be...
My apologies but I couldnt find enjoyment in this short novel at all, because of the style it was written in... and using excerpts of this novel for "Becoming" ruined that book as well. So I recommend actually skipping these two altogether if u r looking for quality writing...

What a.... WASTE of idea and potential to have a good story...
You know, when you fast forward a movie to get the best scene (sex or not)? Well this is EXACTLY the case of this book:

First: the title... REALLY?!
Second: Good start, it's on first tense and we get attached to Cassidy. We want to follow her is this. But then,.. Big Bang and sex and who care about the rest! She has a best friend that KNOWS about what she is going through. Nothing is developped!
Third: Same for the ''mistress'' nothing. We know details here and there but NOTHING... Everything could've been DEVELOPED!!

The sex scenes are well presented, the issue is not there. But if you present a bone, please put some meat around it so we can enjoy! This novel could've been so amazing and BETTER than the ''other'' 50 shades. Maybe I'm the one to emotional lol.

I give 2 stars, I feel it could've been much better.

I'll give it a more specific rating at 4.4 stars, not 4.5 because then I'd round up to 5 stars, but I give this that rating because it was great, the characters were broken and jaded in their own ways, and rebecca and Cassidy are two characters throughout the story I grew to care about and love.

However, There were 2 big grammar issues I caught, but they were very well-hidden, so that is why I rounded down to a 4-star rating.
The story didn't take me more than an hour and a half to read and it was fun. The dom/sub stuff didn't seem rushed or conflicting, they also were very realistic. The lead-up to the ending was lovely and the ending itself was nice.

All in all, a good, fine read.

Great Story

I loved the progression of Rebecca and Cassidy's relationship. Some of the best relationship begin with being at the right place at the right time. This story had the perfect mix of a strong storyline and hot believable intimacy between the two characters. The only thing it was missing was expanding on other relationships. After Cass went to Miranda's bachelorette party they didnt interact much after that. There was no family interactions except for the conversation towards the end between Rebecca and her aunt. I would love if there was a continuation of the story that outlined the family and friends dynamics on both sides as well as how their relationship has progreased with a twist of trials and tribulations to make it interesting.

I knew we were going to get a little backstory to Rebecca when she made an appearance in the Eve Sumptor saga. I am very much delighted by the amount of spice we got on this short novel. Although very fast paced and not much detail on Rebecca's side, I did enjoy the little quirks about lesbian relationships moving fast and U-Hauling haha. I would have preferred a little bit more deepness in this, but I'm going to take a leap and say I'll get more details in the LA Lovers books, I just haven't actually started them. I am so lost in the order these should be read to be honest. But they are really filling my love life void.
