A collection of more than fifty poems about things that move on wheels is divided into sections on bicycles, skateboards, rollerskates, buses, taxis, motorcycles, trucks, tractors, rigs, wagons, cars, jeeps, and many more.
Myra Cohn Livingston was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Her family moved to California when she was 12 years old. She studied the French horn from age 12 to age 20, becoming so good that the Los Angeles Philharmonic invited her to join them when she was 16 years old. She had other plans. She knew she wanted to write.
This book was a larger collection of poems all having to do with things on wheels. It was divided up into several sections, some featuring bikes and rollerblades, others cars, others more unique vehicles like garbage trucks and army jeeps. I read many poems from this book. "Making Work for Father" by X.J. Kennedy "On a Bike" by Myra Cohn Livingston "Hey, Taxi" by J. Patrick Lewis "Cacophony" by Eve Merriam "Automobile" by Valerie Worth "The Army Horse and the Army Jeep" by John Ciardi
I liked how this book featured poems written about every day objects: a good tool for students.
"The Ice Cream Truck". I loved how the author described an ice cream truck in her dreams. Ever since I was little I use to run after the ice cream trucks to get some yummy ice cream and this poem reminded me of those fond memories.
This is a cool poetry collection on different forms of transportation. This book could be useful in not only a poetry unit but also when teaching and discussing different forms of transportation and the ocupations that require certain kinds of vehicles.
