This is a cute book for youngsters who want to own a pet rat. While it is short it gives a lot of good information on the best way to care for your rat so it thrives. I do think parents need to a read more advanced care guide.

Very informative and super cute. I subtracted a star because the book recommends getting mice and rats from the pet store. Most pet store rodents are inbred and have more health problems than those from a breeder. And breeders are usually less expensive anyway! Shelters are good options, too. Both are mentioned in the book, but I would never ever recommend getting a small animal from a pet store. It's unwise and irresponsible.
