Heather Shepherd, her foster daughter Lilly, and bestie Amy go to the new museum in Hillside to see the huge gold nugget on display there. Called The Goose Egg, it is the largest gold nugget ever discovered in Texas. Museum Curator Henry Boddington seems a bit preoccupied when Heather asks him some questions about the nugget. Later when the curator is found dead of a drug overdose and the nugget is missing from the museum, Heather thinks maybe he was a bit more than just preoccupied. Once again, Heather is called in to consult with the local police department to help discover who killed the curator and made off with the gold.

Oreo Sprinkled Murder is the 22nd cozy mystery in the Donut Hole series. The books are novella length and light cozy mysteries. The doughnut shop background theme is cute and the characters are likable. I like reading this series in between heavier mysteries or thrillers as a sort of entertaining palate cleanser. Sometimes I just want to read something light and entertaining...this series definitely fills that need! There are some minor editing issues here and there in this self-published series, but nothing that hampers my enjoyment of the stories. It's definitely my go-to cozy series when I want a quick and easy read to entertain me for an hour or so. The covers always feature a brightly colored doughnut that ties into the story somehow. Never fails to make me crave some fried doughnut goodness. :)

There are 60 books in the Donut Hole series. But readers should not be intimidated by that number. The books are short and easy to read. There is also a spin-off series, Oceanside Cozy Mysteries, that has more than 25 books in it. The author publishes new books in the Oceanside series quite often...so hopefully at some point I will catch up to her! :) I have a lot of reading to do!

Oreo Sprinkled Donut Murder is the 22nd installment in Susan Gillard’s Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series and is a fun, quick, and easy read with no gratuitous sex, violence, or foul language. The books in this series have good mysteries and express the importance of family, friendship, and compassion, but could use better editing and proofing. This book provides an interesting mystery and has a great ending.

Business is booming at Donut Delights and Heather has hired a new assistant, Emily Potts. Lilly is settling into the Shephard household with the help of Amy and Eva and Heather and Ryan. Henry Boddington is the curator of the recently opened Hillside Museum of Heritage that is the new home of The Goose’s Egg, a five-inch golden nugget. When the egg is stolen and the curator found dead, Ryan hires Heather to help Hillside PD investigate the case.

Heather Shepard, her police detective husband Ryan and her BFF Amy visit the newly opened Hillside Museum of Heritage. Like other museum patrons, Hillside's crime fighting trio are drawn to the "Goose's Egg" -- a three pound gold nugget. When the nugget is stolen and the curator murdered, Heather is once again called to put her sleuthing sense to work.

The Donut Hole series continues to entertain. Susan Gillard offers enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. This latest offering had a particularly unexpected ending. Heather, her family and coworkers continue to grow with each new book. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries, you'll enjoy this series.

This is a slightly more depressing book then the others. We get to meet Emily who will be now working at Donut delight and though she has a tough background, I feel like the character will fit in well with the rest of the staff. We almost got through the full book without Lawless, I really dislike that guy. I wish that he would either get used more and better or just disappear. He is a useless that should just be forgotten.

I enjoyed the 2 simulations that happened in parallel, however, the ending is a little sad. This book shows that there isn't always happy endings when you find out who is the murderer. Like in life, this book wasn't black and white, but I enjoyed it.

Not Bad

This book was better and not as predictable as the others. Not a show stopper but show paused. Will enjoy the rest.

This book was short and I’m still not entirely sure who did what and why…? There was so many grammar mistakes. It was driving me nuts.

Susan Gillard never fails to have me sitting on the edge of my seat and craving a tasty donut. Heather Shepherd is back in Oreo Sprinkled Murder. She is once again baking donuts by day and chasing the bad guys by night. The Donut Hole Mystery series is a mouth watering and fun way to wile away an afternoon. I am excited to see what Susan has in store next for Heather and the rest of the Donut Delights Crew.

So many wonderful things have happened to Heather Shepherd since she married Hillside Police Detective, Ryan Shepherd. She expanded her bakery, Donut Delights, is now an investigative consultant to the police department, and has adopted preteen Lilly. Amy Givens is still her “bestie” and one of her assistants in Donut Delights, and Heather also has some wonderful friends in her town.

One day Heather and Amy took Lilly to the Hillside Museum of Heritage to see the Goose’s Egg. This is a 5 inch gold nugget found south of the Bosque River and weighs about 3 pounds. The Goose Egg is the last significant discovery of gold in Texas and everyone in Hillside wanted to see it.

Henry Boddington, the curator of the museum, has a dream to bring Hillside’s heritage to the forefront of the minds of everyone who lives there.

While Heather, Amy, and Lilly were visiting the museum Heather went to the curator to ask him a few questions about the Goose Egg. As they were talking Sara Hines, a jewelry store owner, interrupted them and started screaming at Henry about a meeting they were to have about the Goose Egg. Henry said that he would meet with Sara later on and the two then went their separate ways leaving Heather with her mouth hanging open.

The next day Heather goes to Donut Delights to welcome her newest baker, Emily Potts. Emily is a quiet person but Heather is sure that she will fit right in with everyone else who works there. But soon Emily’s brother, Jabby Joe, comes storming into the bakery complaining that Emily didn’t make him breakfast and shouldn’t be working. Emily asks her brother to leave and explains that Jabby Joe is “quirky” and she’s been caring for him.

Soon Heather finds out some shocking news. Henry Boddington, the curator of the museum, has been found dead, poisoned, and the golden Goose Egg has been stolen.

Heather is asked by the Hillside Police Department to investigate yet another murder. She and Amy start asking questions of potential suspects. Could the murderer be Sara Hines who Heather saw arguing with Henry; maybe it was Henry’s wife, Kerry; or could it be someone not involved with Henry at all like Emily’s “quirky” brother Jabby Joe?

Have no fear because Heather will find the murderer, with a little help from the Hillside Police Department, and will bring that person to justice.

“Oreo Sprinkled Murder” by Susan Gillard is book 22 of this cute Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. I’ve read all of them and always find the books interesting and fun to read. Author Susan Gillard has created some well-written characters that readers can identify with and best of all they’re all recurring.

One of my favorite characters is donut lover Eva Schneider who turns up at the beginning of all the books sitting in Donut Delights enjoying Heather’s newest donut creation with a cup of coffee. I think I’d like to see a story featuring Eva. She reminds me of someone - me!

Fans of this enjoyable series love finding out about Heather’s next murder investigation and discovering her newest donut delight. This is a fast-paced, non violent series that everyone would enjoy reading. Do not miss them.

In this one, Heather is helping investigate the murder/ robbery of a Golden Goose Egg. She runs into a few new weird suspects on this one. There is a woman who runs a jewelry store and does a bad job of it from the looks of things and there is the wife of the murdered man who seems to be overcome too much . At the same time as this, Heather and Ryan and Lilly are trying to figure out the best way to come together as a family. In the end Heather figures it out and realizes why it didn't seem right.

Things are settling in for Heather both with the new shop and with Lilly moving in with her and Ryan. She's created another fantastic donut and hired more help but one call from Ryan sends her head first into a theft and murder investigation. Her knowledge and intuition help Ryan realize that there is more to these cases than meets the eye. My only suggestion for the author is that she (hopefully) creates a recipe book of all of Heather's donut creations. That would be super yummy!!!

I enjoyed the boook. It's back to the standards I enjoyed in the past. I love these characters including the bumbling Geoff. What I would like to see is the detective who gives Heather gruff about donuts get under suspicion of a crime and Heather have to help him. It would be interesting. Thanks to the author for bringing my love for the characters back. I had been losing interest due to predictability.

I thought this was a very good book in the series and I can say I was surprised by the ending. Even though the character Jabby Joe was a bit too much for me, I just liked that Ms. Gillard went in a different direction with this book. The new assistant came out of nowhere. I wish the interview process was written in the book but just the mention from the previous book was there. Let's see how she gels.
