Milt Hinton's life story. a sweet guy, a master of swing jazz bass playing... lots of pictures, not really arty, just real

Excellent book of stories and photographs from a musician who had a successful career. The written part is part autobiography, and part tales from the road and studio. The tales from the road provide a clear picture what it was like to be a working jazz musician in an all-black band working in NYC and touring the US. The writing is straight forward and easy to follow though there is a tendency to jump around in time when he remembers a story related to the one he is telling. The pictures of many of the early jazz musicians are great.
