The Great Planet Robbery

Lawrence Dobbs and Timothy Muldoon, Colonial Marines and thorough rascals, are the last of a dying breed of adventurers in a Federation that has tamed dozens of wild planets and is increasingly becoming civilized. When an old astronaut offers to sell them a map that will take them to a legendary planet promising rivers of gold, Dobbs and Muldoon recruit a crew of misfits for one last great adventure. They soon realize they haven't just discovered gold, but the very secret of alchemy. To keep it, they just have to fight millions of hostile natives, a team of elite bounty hunters, a combat-assassin android named Bova and the emperor of a dead civilization.

A brilliant sci-fi retelling of Kipling's The Man Who Would Be King. Good characters and plot.

Perhaps I didn't enjoy this book as much as I might have because my introduction to science fiction has been with some really good stuff - award winners and classics. I found this book a little flat as a result. I think it might have been trying to do to much. To its credit, I did not predict the ending.

Two colonial marines buy a map to a uncharted planet. The planet called Neverland is said to be a paradise with rivers of gold. The adventurers recruit a crew and go in search of eden. The novel has alot of actionand is well plotted. An exciting read.

I liked this book- it had some interesting characters and a bit of tech talk about wormholes and black holes, etc. But it was more of a humorous spoof than an adventure. There was also some loss of life that I thought was treated too lightly, which bothered me.

I loved this book again for the smooth prose and simple style. There is no need to be a genius to read it. Craig DiLouie takes you on a journey across space and gives you an adventure while at it. I enjoyed this book immensely and would read it again anytime.

Craig DiLouie has an interesting writing style, as with other books of his that I have read, The Great Planet Robbery is certainly contains DiLouie's imagination for characters, plots and the way the story-line flows. The book is light and fun and good for a summer read.

This was a fun space opera-y story - or at least it should have been. The author's writing style just didn't draw me in at all.

It just didn't grab me and I am not sure why. Easy enough read, lots of action, good characters. The story just plods along to the end. I will give it good marks for a well done ending.
