I'm a bit baffled at this books high rating/ reviews. The writing style was poor and pretty stilted throughout. Much of the dialogue was not believable and pulled the reader (I felt) very much out of the story. A significant editing is needed. The timeline of the book was all out of sync. The leading male is 23 in the present day, met his girlfriend 6 years ago when she moved to the area after 9/11 which suggests the book is set in 2007, but then the leading women refers to an event that happened 3 years ago in 2011.... making the present 2014?! Yeah at that point I was just done.

This book was amazing…I devoured it! It was a story of survival, love, loss, friendship, second chances, hope, forgiveness...it was PERFECT! A story of a man and a woman with painful pasts. It not only took me on a wild ride through life’s obstacles and showed me amazing example of love, but made me feel and think.

It’s a story about war, the cost of sacrifice and resiliency. Jameson Carter is a war hero who lost both legs while serving overseas but also all but one of the brothers in his team. He returns home and his fiancée Mary Beth, but things are different. Mary Beth feels stressed and unable to support him in adjusting in the new circumstances of his disability. So she breaks up with him.

He doesn’t get the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but he finds it hard to deal with the new conditions of his body. His therapist happens to be his long term friend Samantha. But Samantha has her own secrets. She is beautiful, sexy, very good in her profession, caring and strong. She has been secretly in love with him for a long time but had stepped aside for Mary Beth. Samantha emotionally supports him and helps him stand on his prosthetic legs in order to use them in his everyday activities. Jameson manages with her help to use his artificial legs to function nearly as well as before.

He begins to see Sam in a new light and they start dating. When he finds out about Sam’s past, he wants to protect her, help her fight all her inner demons and move forward. Together they become aware of their sexual voice including pleasure, eroticism and desire, and there is nothing that speaks louder than love! The book is full of deep, overwhelming emotions, passion and sensuality. Jameson’s sexual prowess isn’t affected at all by his prosthetic legs. He likes sex and he’s very sexual!!

I'm finding it hard to express in words how emotional this book is and how deeply it can affect you. I felt as though I was there every step of the way, experiencing every heartache and challenge life could dish out for Samantha and Jameson. I smiled, I cried, I loved how the author takes you through the emotional journey with the characters. The connection between the two of them left me breathless and part of that was because I wanted them both to have a happiness that they so deserved.

The author gave me a gloriously eloquent, powerfully emotive, sensual love story that was as rich as it was enriching. I loved the ending, it seemed somewhat fitting. There were no loose ends to tie up and you were left with a good feeling altogether. Superb and so worthy of 5 stars. Highly recommended and an unforgettable piece of writing.

I don't remember ever giving up on a book this early.
I'm sure this is a wonderful romance, at least that's what all the high ratings suggest, but I just can't look over the lack of punctuation and the excessive use of names in conversation. I already know that it would be a struggle for me to read on, as beautiful as the story might be.
"Jameson you don't need to be frustrated baby. We will get through this."
[Description/inner monologue]
"Mary Beth, get your sexy little ass over here right now", I say huskily.
[Description/inner monologue]
"Jameson, are you sure about this?", she asks a little breathless.
[Description/inner monologue]
"I knew you weren't ready for this Jameson!"

No rating for obvious reasons.

Wow! This book is one of the best debut novels I have read. The synopsis initially grabbed me for this book and I was drawn to the broken war hero and equally broken female lead. What were their stories and how can they help one another. Once I started reading this book, I didn't stop until the very end. The situations dealt with were shocking and dealt with in a very sympathetic, accurate and empathetic manner. From the offset you are gripped and follow the characters on their journey of rebuilding their life and what each can offer to the other.

The twists and situations faced in this book were immense and I felt sometimes like I was holding my breathe, just waiting to see what happened. There is a lot of drama in this book but I do love how both Sam and Jameson grew as individuals and a couple and that we were able to see their transformation and acceptance of themselves. This book is a roller coaster of emotions and really gets you thinking about different aspects and I found myself wanting to read more.

Overall a very emotional but gripping read that shows us that whatever happens in life, we need to move on, accept our fate and shows us that no-one is irreparable, we just need the right person to repair us.

Thanks for a free book to read and review for wicked reads.
I agree with the title, two people who were in fact irreparable. I really wanted to like this book, I was truly attracted to the synopsis and the cover was intoxicating. This was a story about survival..... And grievance. It affected me in many ways but failed to effect me in others. Grief can do many things to people, and I think this book explores many of those things but the writing style was abrupt which made it hard for me to truly immerse myself into the story. Some of the erotic scenes failed to seem erotic and came off as crude. Otherwise this was a good read, and I can't say I enjoyed it but the content was understandable. Story premise was good, and world building was good. This was a hard subject matter to write about, and I gave it three stars.

This story is about a guy named Jameson. He was in the marines and was in a horrible attack. He was on patrol with 5 other guys. He noticed something was right but it was too late. There was a bomb that blew up. 4 of the guys died, he saved one and lost his legs. This is his story about what happened after that. The book starts on the day he is getting discharged from the hospital. He has a fiancée named Mary-Beth; they have been together since high school. She has waited 3 years for him. She wants him to be happy that he survived and be there with her now. He understands this but wants her to understand that it is going to be hard. He feels like he should have died that day. She isn’t happy with this and is frustrated. She wants things to be the way they used to be but Jameson can’t go back because that person doesn’t exist anymore for him. He doesn’t feel whole anymore with out his legs. He is to be fitted with prosthetics. At his first visit he finds out that the person helping him learn to walk is his friend from childhood Samantha. She is tough, funny, and won’t let him feel sorry for himself. She lets him know that it is okay to ask for help. That she doesn’t think any less of him for needing it right now. And that even if he wants to act like a fool and think he doesn’t need any she will be there anyway. Over the next few weeks he notices that there is something different about Sam like something has happened to her. The light that used to be in her eyes isn’t there anymore. Jameson wants to know what happened to her. Sam warns him about phantom pains and tells him what will help with them. After 5 months he can finally walk out of therapy instead of being wheeled out. He has a night with Mary-Beth that feels like a good bye. The next day he learns that is was. He starts therapy and realizes he has feeling for Sam. When she finally agrees to go on a date with him they have a great time until he drops her off then something happens. She doesn’t talk to him for weeks. He finally runs into her one night and gets her to tell him what happened to her. He never expects anything like what she tells him. Samantha has been through her own version of hell. Its part of the reason she has the job she has. Now that his life is turning around and his is happy with Sam of course Mary-Beth starts coming back around. Will Sam finally let him be with her in a real relationship? Will Mary-Beth try to get in between them and back with Jameson? Will he ever go visit the families of the men that died and visit their graves? Can he have a future with Sam when he still holding onto the past?

I really liked this book. He goes through so much to come out stronger and better on the other side. He wasn’t easy and goes through more on the journey. I must say I hate Mary-Beth and love Sam. One wants him to just get over it and the other understands what he is going through and just wants to help him. Sam goes through so much herself and they really help each other complete the journey. This is a really great book, fantastically written with great characters. I felt like I was on this journey with them. The supporting characters where great also. Sam and Jameson have these great friends that support them through everything.

I was given this book as a gift in return for an honest review.

Forced, emotionless, flat, boring

I have no idea how I finished this book. My brain feels like mush and I hate saying that about this because of the situations this book tried to do justice for. I have never been so disappointed that a book fell flat and failed to convey what it could have. I feel deeply for all our servicemen and women and highly respect them, especially those who are wounded and somehow come home and live, because I really don't think I'm that strong. But this book just didn't do them justice. The emotions were lacking and disjointed, none of them felt real or even believable. The relationships between the characters was always forced and shallow and the conversations, ugh, there was no grit. It was like a bunch of middle schoolers who had just met, none of them were connected to each other and the ribbing that was supposedly so rampant during the whole thing was un-entertaining, boring and flat. Not to mention, the first-person voice was very feminine. If I weren't told from the beginning it was a male I would have assumed it was a woman coming home from war, the thoughts and everything he said to his friends would never come out of a mans mind, at least none of the men I've ever known.
The lead-up for Sam's big reveal was a let down as well. From the beginning I could guess what it was, and it's a horrible, gut wrenching situation, and I still felt no emotions over it. The author did not do a good job pulling emotion from the reader. The reactions, emotions and situations were so predictable that they just fell flat. More depth for the characters with less of the repetitive, forced emotions could have saved this book.

Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines irreparable as "too bad to be corrected or repaired." Upon reading the opening scenes of this book, we understand why the main character feels this way. He survives a horrific accident that takes the lives of 4 of his friends and fellow soldiers. He suffers even more when he comes home to his girlfriend Mary Beth. This guy can't buy a break. Enter Samantha, Jameson's physical therapist. They grew up together but something had changed in her since he last saw her. She is very closed off and doesn't share anything about that time. Jameson can't help but be intrigued by her because of the way she makes him feel.

This is Amanda's first book and for a first book it is a remarkable job. The plot line, the characters, and the drama are written amazingly well. The angst, the romance, and the tension are all believable. The connection and the attraction between Jameson and Sam is strong but they don't rush into a relationship. They actually take their time to work up to it because of how bad off they both are. This makes me extremely happy. I can't stand when the "love" happens fast between 2 characters. It's not believable. What Amanda has written about Jameson and Sam feels real and even though it's not all fun and games, it's one hell of a ride.

**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads**

PFC Jameson has been through hell and back. While fighting a war that many are unsure should be going on, he loses himself and his legs. Only one thought gets him through those tough times. Marybeth. She's his life, love and future. Until one night after coming home from the war he wakes up in the night with phantom pain. Marybeth scared and unable to deal with any kind of stress like the coward she proves herself to be- leaves him. Jameson thinks his life has ended. Only to realize that Marybeth wasn't the girl that he loved right then. Sam is strong and been through a hell of her own. However Sam is strong enough to lift him from his darkest hours, bringing love to light. He does the same for her, showing her pleasure in the same ways that use to hurt her. This book has a great ending! And I really liked how realistic it was. It really helps bring light to PTSD, and the problems that Freedom fighters face during and after the war! It was really sad at times, but well worth it.

As I really like reading books about “tortured / wounded Hero’s/soldiers” it was no question at all that I had to read Irreparable (Wounded Souls #1) by Amanda Lanclos as the practically drew me in. And I even have to go a step further… to say that I was so engrossed in the plotline that I directly accompanied this read with the second book of the series Inconsolable (Wounded Souls #2) by Amanda Lanclos.
I can guarantee you that those books will capture you and they will not release you until they are done with you. Amanda Lanclos is a new to me author and I hope I will get to read more books from her that are as well composed as those two.
Her writing style is fluent and flawless and the plotline will stay with you for a long time. Please enjoy this read as much as I did …

I received this book from the author as a gift a few weeks ago to critique. I read the first few sentences and admit, I sighed. Another book written in first person from a man's perspective. I figured it would be difficult for me to get through. I WAS WRONG!!!!
Irreparable had me hooked quickly. A soldier - a hero - a victim, tortured and haunted by his past. Jameson was so real and raw and I loved him and rooted for him and hoped and prayed for a happy ending for him.
Amanda Lanclos evoked much emotion as I read this novel. It had me anxious to keep reading to find out what would happen next. I highly recommend this book, especially if you love a military hero. 5 stars from this book lover!!

Wow. This is a fantastic read. I tried to read a few chapters one night before bed and ended up reading it all. Yep it's that kinda read.

Jamesons life changed dramatically when a bomb blows up and leaves him disabled. We read of his struggles to live with what's happened and move on. His friend Samantha also plays a part in his recovery.

Fantastic story that had my emotions all over the place. Really great relatable characters. A story full of drama but the author also portrayed the emotions beautifully. Well done to the author on a brilliant debut novel.

DNF @ 10%.

From what I bothered with, it was a lot of posturing, bluster, and attitude - and not just from the wounded hero who supposedly has a reason to be out of sorts. It was immature, and written in such a choppy, forced way that I just didn't see the point of going further.

I was so excited to get to read this book I could hardly wait to begin. As soon as I turned the first page this author packed a whammy with her prologue with my jaw dropping to the floor that oh doggie I really could not get into this one fast enough. One of the other reasons I think too I am easily caught up in this my father was also in the marines and with a son in law now active in the service most any story that has the service in it easy to relate to and if the author has the talent can emphasize also. The author has brought to life Jameson who has survived a bomb but lost his legs with now a long road of a different kind ahead of him. As you read more about this remarkable character who at the time is with his girlfriend Mary-Beth as he does this rehabilitation. It just so happens that his pt therapist is a long time friend named Samantha. Now the author has given Samantha quite the form with developing quite a intriguing character here. By now of course I am totally immersed and it is a good thing I have nowhere to go because this journey is one I plan on completing thanks to the writing talents of this author. So with the web she has created I am like a Invisible miniature on Jameson's shoulder seeing and feeling everything, right there with him when for instance Mary-Beth does a bone head thing like a dear john thing. Samantha being the kind of friend she is though is right there for him but for one little thing is off with her and he means to find out. Funny thing is they both think they are no longer whole and can not be that way again but this author with her ability will change their tune pdq. She accomplishes this all like in real time that you are right there with them through it all. The building of a relationship between these two was in itself worth the read that love can enable any obstacle to be if the two involved really love each other and do it together not apart. To often today when the going gets tough in a relationship one or both walk away to easily like disposable relationships. This story can give hope for better things if love and care are part of the mix. Samantha herself is one amazing woman with what life has delivered her also with the heart warming way love worked for her. The burdens they both carry will be laid by the wayside little by little with you right there to see. So this novel has it all love, humor, sadness ,anger and tears. I so enjoyed seeing how they were after all whole when they are with each other. When I reached the end I was then pleasantly surprised that only a few hours had past but seemed longer since I was in so deep with Jameson and Samantha's story with also then remembering too this was her debut novel but hey if I did not know any better would say she was pulling my leg because this is right up there in style and talent with Robin Carr and others of her caliber. Received a arc for a honest review.

My mind is spinning with all of the things I want to say about this book, all of the points I want to make. First thing is that this very easily could have been a book about a "crippled" guy, but it wasn't. It could have been about a "disabled" man, but it wasn't. It was about a man who served his country with honor and strength and is learning to live with the cost. Yes, this story is about a man who lost his legs, but that in no way defines who he is or how he has to live his life. The way this aspect of the storyline was written was just beautifully done. I come from a proud family of service men and women. Mom and Dad both served. My brother served and so did my hubs. When a story honors the men and women who serve, I'm proud to honor the author! There are so many stories within this story that I quickly became immersed in their lives and I honestly lost track of how many times I laughed or cried. I was absolutely surprised when I was crying for the most hateful person in the book!! I never saw that one coming. There are quite a few twists and turns in the book that will keep you glued to your kindle/nook/book until the very end. You won't be disappointed!!

This book is one of those that will pull you in and you are not gonna let it go until the very last page. I fell in love with Jameson Carter within just the first few pages. I wanted to hug him and tell him that everything was gonna be ok and do many other things that I can’t post about on here. Then I met Samantha Blalock and was completely blown away. Here is a woman who has been thru hell and back and instead of letting circumstances make her bitter and hateful, she has decided to try to fix everyone around her. The chemistry between these two is freaking amazing. The supporting characters in this book all have a story to tell and I can’t wait to read all about each and every one of them. I laughed, cried, and even started to throw my kindle across the room a couple of times while I was reading this book, but I never once put it down for anything once I started reading, there was no way I could wait to find out what was going to happen next in this amazing story. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone that I know and I will be VERY VERY impatiently waiting on the next book from this new author.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book. Love is hard under normal circumstances, but weaving the story around a combat vet is even more complex as there is a whole other set of circumstances to deal with and write about.

The story of Jameson’s struggle to find himself after the trauma he suffered as a Marine is compelling but I believe Ms. Lanclos could have delved more into the Jameson’s struggle with losing his legs and adjusting to his prostheses.

Unfortunately, there were editing and proofreading errors that took me out of the story, which kept me from rating this story at 3.5 or 4 stars.

Honestly, I was a little nervous to read this one. The author and I became friends when we discovered we were two southern gals and lovers of LSU. She had sent me some pages to beta in the early stages of the book. I knew that I really liked the concept and what I had read so far was good, but I wasn't sure how the finished product would be and was worried "what if I don't like it". Well that was not the case and I am so proud of Amanda and happy to say that she has written an excellent debut novel. The story addresses some heavy subjects and these were excellently written with style and dignity. When reading the book, I was so caught up in the story that I would honestly forget that Jameson was a double amputee and the tragedy that happened to Samantha that she had let mold her into a lonely and bitter soul, broke my heart. Great job girl and see I told you that you were not crazy for writing this book!

Tedious and Uninspiring.

Full disclosure: I just gave up reading this book less than half-way through. The story has some of my favorite elements--a double amputee war vet with some PTSD, his survivor's guilt, the girl he left behind with her own traumatic past, a newly-failed relationsip, close family connections, and the like.

It also contains my least favorite elements- amateurish, mechanical, cliché-ridden writing whose lack of style and unfamiliarity with basic grammar make it so painful to read that I simply gave up.

I will say it again: good, grammatically correct writing with some sense of literary style is not an "optional add-on." It is essential to conveying a story in a way that is true, holds the reader's interest and conveys a meaningful emotional impact.

This book does none of that. I cannot imagine it would attract any but the most undemanding and uncritical readers.

I loved this book from the very start, it was written in a males POV and I love that. This book was so touching and I am sure this has happened to a few of our soldiers in real life. What Jameson went through before and after his injury is heartbreaking and to see him work through everything and actually ending up with a happy ending was amazing.

Characters: The characters were so well written and you felt as if you were right there in the book
living and feeling right along with them.

Sex: the sex was tasteful and well done

Religious: no

Would I recommend to others: yes

More than one book in the series: not sure but I hope so

Genre: Romance

Would I read more by this author: yes

A Grand Slam hit out of the park. I am amazed that this is a debut novel and not a long time author as the book had everything you could want and more.

This opening of this book was a little tough for me to read as a mom who has a son that spent two tours in Iraq the military aspect is a little nervy for me, but it was so well written and an amazingly gripping story of a man who looses his legs in a bombing while overseas and how he rebuilds his life. I was impressed with how this was subject was handled in the story. His journey with Samantha is gripping, that is the only word I can think to use.

Ms Lanclos had me in tears more than once in this book. I received it as a complimentary copy for an honest review and I very much look forward to following what I am sure will be a very long and successful career as an author...

Irreparable is Amanda Lanclos first debut novel. This story just has so many different emotions in it! Oh and how could you not love Jameson Carter? (Even his name is hot)
Jameson was overseas serving as a military man, when one day there was a really bad accident. A bomb goes off killing a bunch of his men. Mourning the loss of his men and healing himself from this bomb and PTSD, his fiancé Mary Beth just up and leaves him. Then comes Samantha Blalock back into his list. He is best friends with Sam’s brother. She happens to be his physical therapist! She turns his world upside down! You can tell there is so much spark between them too and Sam tries to stay away because of it. Can Sam get over what she has had to deal with in her life and give Jameson a chance?
This story was truly inspiring! Great job Amanda! Can’t wait to see what you have next!

4 1/2 Stars!!
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are well written and likable.
Jameson Carter, American Hero, returns from war after a tragedy. He can not forgive himself nor is he willing to let go of the guilt or blame he places upon himself. He returns home to Mary Beth, his high school sweetheart. Although things are different now and everything changes.
Samantha is Jameson's long time friend and who also has dealt with life's crappy blows as well in the time Jameson has been away.
Great job by the author bringing this story together. And for not being afraid to bring to light real life events that real people have to deal with on a daily basis. I would recommend this book to all!

This debut book from Amanda Lanclos was amazing it had me from the very first page I just couldn't put it down. The main character Jameson has been through hell fighting in Afghanistan seeing things no-body should have to see, after coming home due to injury things get no better for Jameson with the break down of his relationship then in walks Samantha his childhood best friend and immediately things start to look up. Samantha has her own demons to deal with but together they can get through it. This book made me laugh and cry and I will definitely be recommending it to my friends can't wait to see what comes next from this author.

Gripping. Emotional. Educational. What a story! I've heard a lot of PTSD and injuries d/t war, but to see this side of it is truly eye-opening. I was pulled into the story from the very first page. Jameson is dealing with his own scars, physically and emotionally. Enter Samantha who also is scarred. Can they work together and overcome their pasts? This story teaches you to fight for what you want and fight for what you believe in. I can't wait to see what's next in book 2! Great job, Amanda Lanclos!!

New author Amanda Lanclos has hit a home run out of the ballpark with her debut novel! A wonderful storyline full of emotion, guilt, confusion, understanding and love, had me in tears at times and laughing at other times. Her characters are realistic, very detailed and their interactions are remarkably well written. Jameson and Samantha have both survived horr3endous events in their young lives. Will the undeniable power of love be able to heal their wounds? This is a fantastic read and I hope to see much more from this up and coming new author.

I wanted to like this books because I am a sucker for a military story and watching people heal from their pain. However this story made me kind of uncomfortable, I hated that Jameson was with his ex for 20% of the story. That just doesn't sit well with me when I am trying to follow the real couple's love story. Also he does have sex with his ex in the book twice, granted not while he is with Sam but honestly I could not believe Jameson was in love with Sam after 3 months of being broken up with his ex.

I really enjoyed this book and as a military spouse who sees these stories firsthand some times, I appreciated the telling of this story. It put tears in my eyes on a couple of occasions and I enjoyed the whole story line - even the dirty parts. There were some spelling errors which always nag me but I know how things can be missed. Definitely looking forward to reading future books by this author.

Great debut novel! I can't believe this is her first book! Awesome writing & the characters are very well developed! I was totally captivated and intrigued by the strength of Jameson and Sam! I love how the author kept me wanting more! The anticipation was killing me! I loved it!
