Go BIG with Chunky Yarn Crochet! You will love this collection of patterns for cool accessories to gorgeous oversized home decor items including a Moroccan influenced pouffe. The on trend design and the fact that they stitch up so quickly when you use chunky yarn make these crochet projects irresistible.
There are 20 projects to choose from ranging from larger-than-life rugs and blankets to an over sized colour block cowl and hat for super-sized accessorizing.
The projects are simple enough to be tackled by even beginner crocheters--you'll be amazed at how quickly you can make up the Slouchy Beanie! All you need to get started is a big hook and some yarn and you're good to go.
This was a great primer or reminder on crocheting, not just super chunky. There was a bit of everything, which I appreciated. So many crochet books focus on only blankets or just hats, or bags alone. This doesn't and I was able to find some smaller projects (like a bag or wall hanging) to try as my first trial on the larger size then move on to larger ones (the blankets or poufs).
My only issue isn't with the book, it's with the availability and the terms used for the "Chunky Yarn" in general. It's a bit confusing, are we talking the massive yarn or the stuff they sometimes call roving? Also, yarn size and new techniques are things that I like to grab locally to try out for the first time, even if it limits my color and material choices. The problem is that when I walk into Michaels and Joann's, they don't even know or label their different weights the same as each other little own what is called for in some of the patterns I want to try. Maybe it's me, and I just haven't picked up a hook for too long and didn't have a great grasp of weights even when I did often. (Heaven knows, I sew all the times and still struggle with ordering fabrics by their styles/weights)
My vote is to be more clear in both patterns and materials or for the love of god, someone come out with a cool PDF that spells it all out for me!
Love the concept, and the patterns are fun and a nice variety. Can't wait to get my hands on some suitably super-sized yarns and try these out! It's perfect for my need for instant gratification crafts :)

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I didn't find anything new here from other chunky crochet books I'd read. There is a decent range of things but some items, like the Slouchy Beanie and the Colorblock Cowl, would have been much more wearable if the silhouettes weren't so BIG—the chunky yarn is fine, but the bigness of the pieces overwhelmed the wearer! There's no tips on finessing here. Like how do you make those ends look better? Are there other ways than just weaving them in? (If possible, you can split plies and/or felt the ends together.) Also, many chunky yarns are horrible at pilling and no mention is made of how to take care of a finished piece: generally, no tumble dry.
