Lauri Sommers’ “Stories from the South” is a selection of recordings from old cassettes. Some of them are based on stories from elders, some are from family tradition, some are based on folklore and some are fantasy. A few of the tales are presented in both their original Võrõ dialect as well as in Estonian translation. In its own fashion, this is a sequel to the ancient storytelling and folk traditions presented in the two volumes of Juhan Jaik’s “Võrumaa Tales.” The settings of the stories are in Võrumaa, Peipsiveer, Setomaa on both our side and that of Petserimaa, Kulkna (Kolpino) Island and in Chudskaja Rudnitsa village on the far shore of Lämmijärv. The story presentations are also expanded on in linocut prints by Toomas Kuusing. – translation of the Estonian language synopsis.
