Out of thin air, he turned into the biggest jerk on the planet and treated me like I was nothing. His behavior went on for a week, without explanation, until the truth finally came out. He saw Mr. Davidson kiss me, and instead of giving me a chance to explain what happened, he lost his mind.
By the time the truth comes out, I already see Volt with new eyes. I see a version of him I don’t like, see how cold and cruel he can be. Despite our ironclad relationship, he didn’t trust me whatsoever, didn’t even give a chance to explain what really happened. He acted like a child—and I don’t want to be in a relationship with a child.
Volt finally wears me down, finally convinces me to give him another try. But then I introduce him to my childhood friend Sara…and I know there’s no coming back from this one.
Volt and I may right for each other—but destiny has other plans.

I'm such a sucker for a beautiful ending and that's exactly what E.L. Todd delivered. I might have even cried a little bit. This series was full of struggle and drama and I fell for the MC's like I always do with this author. Loved this ending! ARC provided by author.
Just when we thought things were finally moving along and Taylor and Volt would get their HEA, his stupidity gets in the way and instead of discussing a situation, he reverts back to his insecurities and messes up the relationship.
Most of this book was about Volt and Taylor working on getting back on track. I wanted them to be together, but at times I just wanted to slap them both and maybe just put them each in a separate corner.
The story with Clay was the most interesting for me. I enjoyed reading about his progress and how he and Volt were getting closer. When Volt does something to help him, yet hurts him in the process, I hurt for them both. I was invested in their relationship and looked forward to seeing it mend.
We knew the "meeting" between Sara and Volt would eventually happen - although I felt like it should've happened a few books back - and again, conversations that should've taken place just didn't. The way Taylor handled the situation was extremely childish for my taste and at some point I just wanted to quit. Her reaction to the whole thing and the way she went about to solve the situation just felt too 'high school' for me.
I would've also liked to see more of Natalie and Jared. Their relationship took an interesting turn, but there wasn't much mentioned about them.
The writing itself was good. There were some interesting characters, but the main ones, Taylor and Volt, just acted too childish for me. The major thorn in my side was the fact that Sara and Taylor were best friends since childhood, yet when Sara was going out with Volt, Taylor never met him. And then when the situation was reversed and Taylor was with him, Sara didn't meet him until a year later. That is just unbelievable. Even if Sara and Taylor were in different states, you figure Sara would've wanted to show Taylor a picture of her and her boyfriend together. But she didn't. And then when Taylor took that one picture of herself with Volt, I thought, here it goes, she's going to show Sara, but sadly, that didn't happen either. This point was just too drawn out and just necessary to make the series longer, but didn't add much because from the first book, it was already obvious how this would play out.
The series had potential and the writing was done well, but eliminating those unnecessary situations and cutting it down to maybe 2-3 books would've made it more interesting.
I can’t believe it took 4 books to reveal the Sara and Volt twist, which was made pretty obvious from early on? Very slow, and Volt was so toxic it really bothered me that Taylor kept going back to him? He’s abusive as hell and that’s not something to romanticise 🙄

Taylor sucks. I wanted her to be the one who was ‘chasing’ for once especially since she was in the wrong. Your best friend telling you to break up with the guy you’re in love with because it makes her uncomfortable-hello, get over it. Then trusting your best friend blindly like that-about cheating. Are you kidding me? I too would be out of there. I don’t feel like she ever really was the one who was apologising, this time Volt deserved to be apologised too. But I loved his storyline with Clay and their relationship. I thought it was so cute.
Overall, disappointing end to the series. I don’t mind the will-they-won’t-they thing, didn’t love the fights every second chapter but thought it was good. Then after everything with Sara and Taylor’s way of handling it. I thought her character went to a 0 for me. And I ended up skimming the last 15 pages because I wasn’t that interested in Volt apologising for being upset that she didn’t trust him, was breaking up with him for her friend and then didn’t believe him about what had happened. It made the story seem not worth it.
...that this series drove me up a wall in frustration. These two main characters are the densest people ever. To both be educators, logic was not in the realm of their wheelhouses. I don’t even necessarily mind that it took three books for them to get together. Actually I do but they irritation pales in comparison to the dumb plot that happened in this fourth book. This author took Taylor’s naïveté to a whole other plane. I was literally beating my mattress I was so frustrated. Ugh! Save yourself the headache and read something else.
First, this entire series could have been wrapped into two books - but whatever, they were from Amazon Kindle Unlimited. Second, the heroine Taylor is dumb as dirt. Even someone who just fell off a turnip truck yesterday is smarter than this so-called science teacher. Taylor had no reasoning ability to deduce anything. Its like her left brain didn't work at all. The hero is somewhat dim, but wasn't as dim as Taylor.
I noticed this author's stories mostly center on a friends-to-lovers theme and they're sometimes predictable, but most of the time, they're not.
The stories made me feel a lot of emotions, and I liked the foundation she built for the relationship. While she kept some mystery going, I figured it out early on because it's not difficult to connect the dots.
I was really angry with Sara the way Volt was because she wasn't really a good friend in the first place. When things went down at the restaurant, she was just thinking of herself and even put Taylor in a tough position. No one should ever have to put someone through something like that and I hated her for it.
While one couldn't blame Taylor for her trusting nature, and always giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, I was still annoyed with her decision. Volt had to slap her (not literally) with evidence before she came to her senses.
The other side of the story was a touching one. I read this series in one day ans and it was a good one for a lazy Saturday.
The author's writing style was really engaging and kept me guessing. While I knew this was the last book in the series, she still put tension there about the HEA.
Her stories are always somethings that stay with me days after reading them.

Combust Electric series E.L. Todd 4 amazing, perfect ending Stars
Well, well, well. That was.... freaking awesome. Combust is the perfect ending to the Electric series and Volt and Taylor’s love story. Through so many hurdles beginning very early in their friendship to a love affair that would make anyone jealous. But like Charge, Spark and Burn this book is not without its dramas and explosions. For those who are just checking out this story please read from book 1 so that way you can follow the story from the very beginning.
After yet another break up, Taylor has left Volt for good this time, his demeanor, anger and pure miss trust over a misjudged sighting. But his yell 1st ask questions later will once again bite him the ass. Losing Taylor is worse than he could ever expect. She more than fills his world , she is his world, so with his proverbial tail between his legs he begs for her forgiveness. Giving in is always easy when the man involved is God’s Gift and her best friend.
So this is where it gets fun.... If you’ve followed from book one, you will know how badly affected by the ex girlfriend that cheated on him years earlier, pretty much rearranging his life – what he never expected was Taylor to enter and blow his world apart. Volt is trying to make his life perfect with Taylor, making her a permanent part – moving in, getting married, he wants the whole fairytale. With only needing to meet Sara, Taylor’s best friend the final hurdle his world will once again explode to pieces when he discovers that best friend is actually his cheating ex.
Taylor will now be faced with the decision of love of her life verses best friend. This will never end well, with a bitch of a “ best friend “ who is hell bent on destroying what Taylor and Volt have worked so hard for and the msn if her dreams. Now Taylor is stuck between her 2 favourite people and lies everywhere. Not knowing where to turn, she must find a compromise for both parties. Sadly that won’t happen – she must choose lifelong girlfriend or her soulmate and best friend.
We watch both Taylor and Volt’s worlds implode with one evil woman in the middle. This seriously had me addicted, I had to find out if there would be a happy ending or mire heartache for Taylor and Volt. Let me say the ending has more than one surprise, when another side story of this series comes full circle as well.
This one had a good ending, but damn it took forever to get here. Books 2 & 3 didn't need to happen in my opinion. This relationship was so drawn out, that for me by the end I just wanted to see what happened.
Sara was a jerk and honestly, it was a long drawn out twist. First is Sara and Taylor were such best friends, it wouldn't have taken a year for her to meet Volt. This all could've been handled in the first book and Sara would've been gone. Taylor was closer friends to Volt's crew than she ever was with Sara.
I liked everything that happened with Clay. And the epilogue was good.
Coincidence? This was such a strange one, what happens when your best friend and your other best friend, who happens to be the love of your life, clash beyond any fixing?
After Taylor and Volt give things another try, how will their relationships work when they're thrown the biggest most unbelievable and unfortunate coincidence? Can they learn to forgive and trust each other after they are both deceived? Will Volt and Taylor get their happy ever after?
This one had every drama, angst and love, it was my favourite of the series and Clay was a majoring fact in it too.
I don't want this to be negative... but.... its so long winded. really all over the place and really frustrating. This whole series could have easy been made into 2 books. Both main characters are slightly annoying but not the worst. Lots of back and fourth. I did skim read alot and that was only because I knew what was happening. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone but if you already have it, then read it. Overall, it's an OK book. Defo wouldn't read again. And way to long.
Volt deserves so much better. What kind of best friend are you? Sara is barely mentioned in the books. Taylor knows Volt for a year and the never met. Wow that sounds like best friends Sara is a selfish, hypocritical, spoilt little bitch with no self reflection or what so ever. How is it so hard to choose is beyond me. The writer should check her facts. One chapter it’s been 2 years and the next is just 1 years…….
So many ups and downs. Back and forth. How many times can you break up with someone over stupid stuff? Why would she believe Sara? It took too many books and money to get to the end. This is the second series I’ve read by E.L. Todd and they’ve all been strung out stories. I think I’ll steer clear of her in the future.
This was an ok book if not at predictable as the previous 2. I do wonder if the author actually remembered what she had written in the other volumes as she messed up on a few things.
This has been an interesting ride watching everyone self destruct but i’m glad that we’ve finally made it to the end of the journey. There are so many ways that this story could have gone, and every day we saw another angle of each and while i enjoyed it, i still have whiplash.
We are still trying to sort out how Volt and Taylor can make things work. They clearly have so much against them, allowing themselves to be their worst enemies, letting other things come in the way of what they want, but they some how manage to make it work, until they don’t. We’re spending a lot of time in this story watching them finally find their happy place. They have a routine and a rhythm that works and a path that looks at the future in a way that they could only hope. Work is better for Taylor and Volt is content in what he’s chosen as his path.
We see Taylor get closer with Volt’s parents, we see Volt really grow this impressive strong relationship with Clay – the teen that he’s tutoring, but we know that the other shoe is going to drop and when it does, it’ll be bad.
Right around Christmas, Clay comes to stay at Volt’s house since his place isn’t safe and that triggers so many things. it shows us that Clay isn’t. safe where he is and that we know that while a promise was made to keep Clay out of the orphanage, it’s likely not going to happen now. The bond that was developed throughout the last 2 books will be lost since we know that Clay will never forgive Volt.
While that’s happening, Taylor finally manages to arrange for Volt and Sara to meet and when they realize who the other is, well, that sends us into the most dramatic tailspin yet. Volt had just bought a ring for. Taylor and then gets the shock of his life when Sara tells Taylor that she has to choose between love and friendship and makes it impossible to choose Volt. She lies to Taylor to make sure she gets her way and that destroys everything good between Volt and Taylor.
Every time i think that there’s going to be a happy ending, i quickly realize that maybe not all stories are supposed to end up like that. Clay is miserable in an orphanage, with no hope of freedom or college. Volt and Taylor are torn apart again with Sara getting her way and lies are all that seem to matter now. The only good thing that’s happening these days is the relationship between Natalie and Jared. They seem pretty content with no drama (at least for now). So, that leave Derek, the friend who wants a girl but can’t seem to find the right one. I hope he gets his own spin off since he’s such a great guy
Would've been 2⭐️ but epilogue bumped it a star ☺️
I felt like this series had great potential, and the first book really did set the stage for like a dramatic romance series, but it pretty much just irritated me. However, I still couldn't put the book down, and I managed to consume all four books in the series in a matter of less than forty-eight hours.
I did not realise at first that this series was about the same couple. I actually thought it was gonna be an interconnected standalone series, but I quickly found out that wasn't the case.
Then it left me thinking....how was just a simple romcom going to drag out for 4 books, unless it had some intense plot line, which it didn't, by the way.
I liked Volt as a main character. I thought he started off strong - In the whole, he became a reformed f*** boy for a girl that he quickly fell in love with - at the statt of the book he deals with a sh*tter of a situation incolving his ex GF. However, i did NOT like that just because of his past, he was so quick to anger and aggression, and the way he was in that scene with Taylor.
BUT I did enjoy the pining, the longing, and the grovelling that came after it.
I initially enjoyed Taylor as an fmc as well, but the amount of miscommunication that repeatedly happened throughout this book and then the annoying drama of her having to choose between her friend and her boyfriend, who she claimed, was the love of her life was so infuriating! I wanted to reach into the book and smack her upside the head numerous times. Her BFF was an absolute ogre, and I disliked her from the beginning!!
But all's well, that ends well, I found the whole Clay aspect quite random, but also it gave the series a little more depth to it. And found that the epilogue was a nice close out to the whole series.

Combust is the fourth and final book in the contemporary romance series, Electric, by E.L. Todd. E.L. Todd is a guilty pleasure of mine. I know that some of her stuff is advertised as romantic comedy or whatnot, but I find her stuff to be more dramatic where if there's something bad that can happen, you would want to expect it.
That said, I was expecting the big bad thing that happens in this book. We finally learn Volt's real first name and there's quite the big hiccup with him meeting Taylor's other best friend. I may have pegged it, but the reactions and decisions made afterward wasn't expected. Once again, I should have anticipated the drama that was going to unfold.
If you've read my other reviews about this series, you would know I was wish washy about the previous books. Book one was decent, book two was better, book three was upsetting, and this one? Well, I liked this one the best.
Taylor has proved herself to still have issues with listening and trusting. Though Volt didn't show himself to be very mature in book three, he actually did better in this book. What I felt in book three was replaced with sympathy for him in book four. I was happy with his decisions and the overall ending of the book and series.
All in all, I actually liked the series. Yes, some books weren't as good as others and the story is predictable, but it wasn't too bad. I have read some reviews about Todd's writing style and honestly, those are good points on their end. Her writing is fairly simple, there is repetition, and most of the descriptions are in the sex scenes (which isn't so bad). However, I still love reading her stuff. She's great for an in between read.
Volt and Taylor kissed and made up, so I really did not see a reason to read the last book of the series. Simply because my mom did not raiser a quitter, I decided to go ahead and read the book. There is no mistaking that Volt and Taylor is a good couple and this book has too many sex scenes for me and it took too long to get to the answer that I already knew the answer too. Now I love sex scenes, but not when it weighs down the story and I thought this was novel, not an erotica.
I really feel for Clay in this book and it was really emotional. Mrs. Todd knows how to write an emotional scene and she makes the reader feel as if they are right there at the desk with Volt and Clay. I was biting my nails because I already knew what was coming. This whole series is based on who the ex-girlfriend is and the answer was revealed book one. When it was big mystery was finally revealed, my heart stopped. I was so happy that everything was out in the open. I already knew who the mystery ex-girlfriend was, but I was not prepared for the intensity of Sarah. She asked Taylor to dump Volt or she and Taylor could not remain friends. What a selfish lady, and i use this word because I cant use offensive language. I can't believe Taylor was even considering leaving Volt for Sarah? If Sarah was her best friend, she would be happy for Taylor and Sarah cheated on Volt anyway.
Only Ms. Todd can write a scene with so much intensity that it makes me have butterflies. The scene between Volt and Taylor is intense and I really appreciate an author that can convey those type of feelings on a page. A great ending to a great, emotional series. It is a must read.
I love how the book ended, it was a great finish to the series, but I could have lived without a lot of the "he said, she said" drama that appeared in a lot of the books. I think Volt was an amazing character, who had several flaws, such as assuming the worst before getting the full picture (with his backstory you understand a little bit more about why he is that way, but it still gets annoying after awhile). Taylor was a little too "perfect" for me, I loved her as a character, but I didn't really feel like she grew in the series, other than her feelings for Volt. Which may have been the point to put just about all the focus on Volt and not her.
Also, the cliffhangers at the end of every book, killed me. Literally killed me.
All in all though, I will say this was a great read all around aside from a couple of my own personal issues. Nothing too sexual (by that I mean not Christian Grey) and I actually felt invested in the pair's relationship as it had it's ups and downs.
Now what I would really be interested in would be a book from Sara's point of view. Since we all know she is a little crazy and Volt's favorite little nickname for her - but I want to know a little bit more about her side of the story from her relationship with Volt to where she is now. Also, Volt's brother Connor!? I need a little something there too.
This is the conclusion to the electric series. E.L.Todd certainly did not hold back in this story. Just when you think this will be a HEA, the twist hits like a brick wall and stops everything in its place. Taylor is so torn in her dilemma that I think she cannot see what is right in front of her. I found myself screaming, but remember what really happened quite often. Taylor did not listen to me any more than she listened to her own heart. I loved Volt's decisions and how he stayed true to himself through the turmoil. This was a very intense ending that left me loving some characters and hating some others.
Michael Ferraiuolo and Lia Langola nailed this narration. Their narration had to be spot on, because the characters were going through some intense situations. Mr. Ferraiuolo brought out every emotion, frustration and attitude of Volt. Mr. Ferraiuolo tugged on my heart strings with his narration of Volt. Ms. Langola brought Taylor to life. Each emotional and mental struggle Taylor had, Ms. Langola narrated to touch my emotions. Ms. Langola made it seem as if I was within the story and brought out my emotions as Taylor struggles with her decisions. I loved this series and wish it could have lasted forever. I have a major book hangover!
The getting there was so rough. And it was just so ridiculous that Sara was the catalyst for both their breakup and reunification. Her role was disgusting and also just unbelievable, but Taylor was worse. She didn’t seem close with Sara at all. I never believed they were besties as they rarely hung out and their friendship seemed nonexistent. The author didn’t do a good job of making the story work when it came to the Muriel/Volt names and Sara and Taylor never talking about it or having Volt meet Sara before a year had passed. It made no sense, but I guess made for good drama. But it just wasn’t believable. Why would Volt have suddenly changed his name or preference for his middle name after Sara. That makes no sense. Why would Taylor and Volt never meet up with Sara for over a year. Again, it makes no sense. Taylor claims she’s so close with Sara but that was a lie.
So I’m glad it was all roses and butterflies in the end, but the story really fell apart.
I found the whole series “electrified” just as the titles clearly indicated. The 1st book was truly great reading but as I read the second and third books the story lagged and I lost interest. I figured since the author worked hard to deliver the story it was up to me as a reader to continue to the end. I’m glad I did since the ups and downs that the BFF to BF/GF to mated forever was difficult and different paths both took. One would have imagined that Taylor & Volt would ultimately end up together, but the insecurities both had made it seem like that would never happen. What gets me is that the same “Sara” in the beginning is the same “Sara at the end and that was never fully explained. I’m mystified why the author even added her to the story line anyway. Clearly this was a loose thread that caused distraction. Their character definitely had an agenda for both of them but it was never clearly explained through all 4 books.
I enjoyed this book more than the others and I absolutely adore Clay, I was so mad with Volt for what he did and was screaming “why don’t you take him” arrggg I was so annoyed he couldn’t see how miserable Clay was. I have loved Volt & Taylor and their story and knew Sara would react badly but didn’t expect what happened. I then became so mad at Taylor for just bowing to Sara and not having a backbone to say “deal with it” she acted like the 16 years old girls in school saying BFF forever and girl code 🤮 instead of acting like a mature adult and sitting both down and saying “this is what I want” and in my opinion in this situation Sara was wrong to make her choose just for spite and Taylor was just plain stupid. Great ending but I would have liked this book to be completed with just 2 books as some of this just went on too long and repeated itself quite a bit. Got there in the end but the star of this series for me is Clay.
Probably the worst series I’ve ever read and I read lots. I only stuck with it because I needed to know how it ends. The author clearly had memory issues because the inconsistencies between the books were laughable. SPOILERS ahead… Taylor is the most selfish, childish character ever, Volt is no better. When they fight they just ignore each other for a week, instead of being actual adults. Taylor is the worst educator but knows better, even though it’s literally her first job ever. Give me a break. They’ve supposedly been together a year, moving in together and planning to marry one day however, she has no idea what his real name is. Then there’s Sara, who dated Volt for a year but didn’t call him by his middle name, the author literally wrote that “Volt” is what his friends and family call him”. Also, both girls have been with this guy for so long but never shared a photo. Honestly, I wanted Volt to adopt Clay and live happily ever after without Taylor. Very lazy writing!
