i did not expect much from this book, but it ended up being a very sweet story. becky, skipper’s cheerleading coach, is in a wheelchair but takes life by the reins. she knows what she’s doing and doesn’t have any trouble showing it. the book does depict some inconveniences she faces, such as others doubting her, lack of accessibility, people being embarrassed when she crashes into something, etc. she takes it all in stride. honestly, i agree, three cheers for becky.

only thing i didn’t like is that for a book about skipper, she seemed like kind of an afterthought. the majority was about becky, barbie, and skipper’s friend amy. i was interested to see what skipper was like before becoming a tech wizard in the barbie movies/shows. but she was just kind of there.

amazing doll dioramas. i want to know how they made that cheerleading pyramid! although i will point out, where was the mat that was supposed to be on the stage? lol.

I grew up with the Barbie books, and I accidentally stumbled upon this one working in my library. It's such a cute story with all the "Barbie and Friends" charm, but I think a lot of girls would benefit from this particular title, especially if they have friends of family members with a disability or are dealing with self-esteem and self confidence issues, especially in Cheerleading and other sports. I also love how the illustrations have posed dolls.

3.5 stars (3/10 hearts). I read this years ago at some friends' house and never forgot it. It does such a great job touching lightly on disability, accessibility, and prejudice, but also on fear and trust.

Like most Barbie tales... the story was lacking. However this one has a nice message about being friends with people who are differently abled.

I'm really impressed how sensitively they handled Becky's disability & ableism she faced. I was worried Mattel wouldn't do a good job of accurately portraying a disabled character knowing how badly they treated the doll

Features Teen Skippers friend, Amy, who I'm pretty sure isn't a doll.
